Filed under: Nintendo Wii, Adventure If you were hoping that the recently announced Wii version of Okami would lure you back into its beautiful world with new environments, bosses, weapons and so forth, you're about to have your somewhat optimistic viewpoint obscured by one Didier Malenfant. In an interview with IGN, the president of Ready At Dawn explains that Okam-Wii (see what we did there?) will be an "exact port of the PS2 version," save for the magical brush strokes which will now correspond to motions of the Wiimote. Malenfant argues that messing with the game in any form would simply draw ire from Clover devotees. Strangely, the same crowd is currently wagging their fingers at Ready At Dawn for failing to pretty up the port in some way. While Malenfant's reasoning may appear to hide some reticence to retool, one has to consider that the game in question tanked on the platform with the largest install base. The Wii version isn't aimed at gamers who bought and enjoyed Okami -- it's aimed at the millions of [Via Wii Fanboy]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

What a poor excuse for game developers to be lazy.

I wasn't expecting any more to be honest. But at any rate, Okami is so perfect for Wii that it'll be enhanced just by having Wii controls, few other games can say that. I'm not sure if it's enough to make me re-buy it though.
I still expect that it'll be visually enhanced by having progressive scan mode (which the PS2 version didn't have), also the 60Hz mode on PS2 looks so awful on my TV that I never use it so I'm used to the game in 50Hz. That'll be a bonus to have a clear picture for once. Apart from that, I probably won't get it, but I'll think about it. |

That's if it has a 60Hz mode.

It had better! It does on PS2 so I would say at least it'll have it on the Wii version, it should have progressive scan as well that's pretty standard now, it'll be a terrible port if it didn't.

I never got a chance to play this on the PS2, so I'm looking forward to the Wii version as I've heard good things about this game. Not too disappointed with the lack of bonus features.

As long as it supports 16:9 and progressive scan, not to mention good controls, I won't mind. From what I've seen the game looks pretty good. I've heard of the title before, but I've never payed much attention to the games available on the PS2. I have no problems with ports, as long as a developer does a good job with them.

It would be pretty hard to mess up the controls on Okami for Wii, the PS2 version is practically crying out for Wii controls. The gameplay involves, and relies on, a lot of drawing on the screen which is all done with the analogue stick on PS2, because it's such a big feature in the game it makes the gameplay kind of slow and disjointed at times. It's one of the few criticisms about the game. Simply being on Wii would fix all of these problems.
My only concern is, just working out the controls in my head, I think the Wiimote/nunchuck setup is short of at least one button if the gameplay is to be kept identical except for the drawing. I hope they can design a good control system and not resort to anything stupid like shaking the nunchuck to jump or do whatever. It can be done I'm sure. |
