Unhappy Secret of Mana: Mana Beast Problem

Hey guys, I just wanted to know if anyone else has been having problems with the VC version of SoM?

First of all, the VC version is significantly more glitchy than the original version, I'm not sure why this is, the game just seemed to freeze more during multiplayer than on the original (like, if the sprite accidentally initiated a conversation when the boy was supposed to the game would freeze). Also, during three-player mode there were also a few random parts in the game where one of the characters would just fly off the screen. Luckily it was always near a whip post thing (i assume it was some sort of glitch with that mechanic), so that wasn't a problem; it was just weird.

But, on to the problem that is actually impeding our progress in the game. We got to the very end fight with the mana beast where you have to have the sprite and the girl cast "mana magic" or whatever it's called on the boy to upgrade the sword to the Mana Sword, blah blah blah, whatever. We're sure that we did everything right because when it did not work on the VC, we busted out the original cartridge and beat the game on one of our save files that were at the end of the game, just to be sure we were doing everything right. So we're not doing anything wrong!

I'm just wondering if anyone else is having that problem and if there is anything we can do about it?

i have PAL version, and had problems like that characters are stuck outside in walls and once the wrong one was talking, that was on the snes, not VC

Might help if you say what the problem is other than "It did not work on VC"
Can you not select the Mana power?
Does the boy not do damage to the mana beast?
Does it freeze?
Does it power up the sword but then not do any damage ?

Ah, excuse me. Yes the sword does get powered up, but he still does 0 damage to the mana beast.
