| Lemmy Koopa | Well actully I've never played this game, but I'm really looking forward to it. So if you guys could tell me a bit about it I'd be one happy camper. But please don't say anything about the story or give anythink away, thanks.

| Koopa Trooper | My belief is that it won't be released. It was eventually to be planned, and was on the ESRB site, but was removed. I think Square's planning to release NO games on the VC but instead earn money the cheap way by porting the games to Nintendo systems. But if the games get GOOD 3D updates and a few extras, then that's not too bad - I'd rather have the originals cheaper but 35 bucks is more than worth it for SMRPG or Chrono Trigger. Darn Square Enix, being smart and making more money off of the games on the DS.

| I'm actually not interested about it at all for some reason, I've heard from a few people that it's very average, and it doesn't look amazing, I'll probably give it a miss unless it gets a good review and stuff, and that's if it actually does come out in Europe.

| Retro Gamer since 1985 | This will be one of the very few RPGs I'll be getting on the VC. Hopefully they will release it in the future. I'm not in a rush though. I just got Streets of Rage 2 and DKC2 so they can take their time for now. |

| in Shinobi World | Yeah, it's not brilliant. I think it got hyped up a bit too much due to its unavailability in certain regions.

| in Shinobi World | I mean, it's not bad, but there are much better "lost" Square games out there that I'd much rather see before Mario RPG. It's an above average "beginner" rpg, which just so happens to (a) be quite rare and (b) have the Mario name on it.

| Goomba | If you like the Mario "universe", then you'll enjoy the game. I don't think it's mediocre at all, but is quite good in its own right. Obviously it's not going to stand tall beside the likes of Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI, but it's definitely not a waste of points either. Basically, you'll be disappointed if you're looking for a "true" RPG experience, but if you dig Mario and the light-heartedness of the franchise, you'll be happy with it.

| SMRPG was pretty decent, I wouldn't place it as a true classic, but it's definitely a good game. Although I might be a little biased toward it because I managed to nail 100 super jumps. FEAR ME

| Before I knew this game even existed, I saw a used copy of it back in like, 2001. It was at Gamestop, I saw the sweet looking cartridge and the 3D renders, it looked so awesome. I was THIS CLOSE to buying it. didn't buy, LOL |

| Still being rather new to the RPG genre I think this would be a good buy for me. Most things I've heard about the game was that it was very good as a beginner's RPG experience. |

| Big Boo | A lot of the japanese RPG's are really easy since you play a story and not a game, although some games is more gameplay based. If you're new to the RPG genre then the Final Fantasy games for PSOne would be just a good start as SMRPG, just remember to read everything they say because that's where the feeling in the game is. As for SMRPG I haven't played it that much since I just downloaded it on an emulator to try it out, but like every other game I got bored by playing them on the computer and deleted it. But if it would be released for VC I would probably buy it.

| i am sooooo looking forward to the release of this game! we bought it in 2001 and i remember really liking it. but since i was only in like 4th grade at the time i could only get about 1/2 way thru. i went to play it back when spm was released and it seemed to be my only missing snes game. im pretty sure my sister's boyfriend stole and sold it but i can't confront him about it b/c he's on heroine and im not allowed to see him. I WANT SMRPG!!! |

| Koopa Trooper | For some reason I dont see Square releasing any of its properties onto VC. I want Chrono Trigger on my Wii, even though I own the PS port in Chronicles, it would be sweet to play it without the loading (even though I really have no problems with the PS version). Square-Enix really needs to get its sh t together, imagine how much money Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana would make on the VC? And translating SFC games is very cheap process, after the popularity of DQ VIII people would buy the SNES Dragon Quest's enough to make up for the translation costs 1000 fold. |

| " I mean, it's not bad, but there are much better "lost" Square games out there that I'd much rather see before Mario RPG. It's an above average "beginner" rpg, which just so happens to (a) be quite rare and (b) have the Mario name on it. What he said. Pre-rendered isometric graphics + Mario + Square RPG aimed at the kiddies = way too much hype for a mediocre game that most people here probably haven't played. Yeah, it's not brilliant. I think it got hyped up a bit too much due to its unavailability in certain regions. " Impressive... Well, SMRPG was not as long as Seiken Densetsu 3. It didn't have tons of endings, like Chrono Trigger. It didn't have hundreds of magic spells or weapons either like "most" of the Final fantasy games... But do you know why is it a Classic? because SMRPG had what NONE OF THE GAMES MENTIONED ABOVE had: A simple, fun and fresh story; a brilliant, simple and original battle system (even nowadays I press A button every time my character makes contact with the enemy), tons of humor, original and old characters from the Mario Universe, lots of FUN minigames (some games lack the FUN part), a detailed overworld map, lots of NPCs and, the most important part, it was FUN to play. It's a shame that some people consider this game a "mediocre game", because in no way this is mediocre. This game demonstrated that you don't need an epic story or a brand name to tell a story, and you don't need the most powerfull system to make a fun game to play.

| in Shinobi World | I'll give you that. SMRPG is good fun, and doesn't take itself too seriously, unlike a lot of console rpgs. But on the other hand, fun is not enough on its own; that's why I think it's a good game, and a great beginner's rpg, but one of the best console rpgs ever? No, not really. |

| Super Mario RPG is easily my most favourite game of all time, and I am praying that it gets released in Australia. So many memorable moments and characters in that game, including my all time favourite, Dodo |

| in Shinobi World | It doesn't have a particularly complex or interesting story, there's not much in the way of in-depth character interaction, and it's tactically limited. I don't deny it's a good game (and an improvement over more complex rpgs in many ways), but in comparison with rpgs like Phantasy Star IV, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, it pales. Also I've never been a fan of the Mario mythos, so I don't see the presence of those characters as a major draw like many people do. So yes, it's a lot of fun, but it needs to be more than just fun to be considered one of the greatest rpgs ever, imho. |

Already stated. It clearly does not provide the deepest story of the system, but I have to disagree in terms of "in-depth character interaction";the game has some of the funniest characters and moments of the 16 bits era (Axem rangers, the wedding, Geno, the moles, and many) that this game does not need a deep story to make it fun. Why do we need the best-plot-evar to tell a story? why do we need a main character to die to make an epic game? This game demonstrated, at its time, that you only need creativity and some charming characters, along with an improved battle system, to provide one of the best RPGs in the system. And about the games that you mentioned: Having played all of them (at their respective time), I'm sure that, although those are good games, I had not as much fun as I had playing SMRPG. Even 7th Saga had charmer characters than PS4, and the combat system in Earthbound was really limited. I really doubt that, technically, SMRPG "pales" in comparison to those games, unless we talk of personal preference, but that's another topic.

| in Shinobi World | Fair enough. You can keep saying SMRPG is fun, and I can keep saying it's too simplistic to be a truly great rpg. We won't agree, so let's leave it at that. |

Your right that SMRPG is very simple but your missing the fact. this was one of the first Mario game ever gone from adventure to role playing. the story has very little complexity because its a mario game but thats the whole reason its a great rpg. not to mention that the graphics are pretty good for a SNES. given a fair trial to SMRPG its a Great game just as are Chrono Trigger and Earthbound. | |

| I owned this game and only got through it once. I'd love to play it again and hope it gets released on the VC. Even though Square support isn't particularly strong I think Nintendo can release this much in the same way they can release the Donkey Kong Country games even though Rare is owned by Microsoft now. Mario & Co. are Nintendo's property, not Square's so even though it was a joint venture, I'd think Nintendo can release a game they published and that used their characters. |

| I hope that, at least, we get Geno and the other SMRPG characters in Brawl in form of trophies. It would be great to have Geno as a playable character, but I don't think that it's possible. And Geno Whirl for 9999 damage!
