| I meant the really crappy SNES Mystic Quest. The "tutorial" FF. XP Final Fantasy ADVENTURE? That's Seiken Densetsu, right?

| That's a good game. I didn't know the EU name, so I was confused; you said the rest so I though you meant the Legends series...

| I know Mystic Quest Legends (EU) on SNES. That was called Final Fantasy Mystic Quest in the US. ![]() Don't know what you mean by "Legends" though. This is the one I really liked: Mystic Quest aka Final Fantasy Adventure aka Seiken Desetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden |

| Lakitu | Final Fantasy Adventure isn't a Final Fantasy game. it's a Seiken Densetsu game, that they named Final Fantasy because Final Fantasy sold well. They just wanted to capitalize on the Final Fantasy series' success. Should've just waited till after Secret of Mana to release it, it would've sold just as well, if not better. |

| I think we can come to somewhat of an agreement that Chrono Trigger is better than (at least most) FFs. Truly classic. For some reason, it's nostalgic for me, just owning it. It had GREAT music. Nice to have some variety from the Rinse&Repeat FFs. |

| The best SNES RPG's are Winners 1st place: Earthbound / Chrono Trigger / Terranigma / Secret of Mana / Super Mario RPG - They're not just five star games, they're ten stars! 2nd place: Final Fantasy ^^ no dont matter what anybody else says. Final Fantasy got it's issues because there were so much of em, and not every part of that series was good. But with FF6 & FF7 this is one of the 1st placers. 1st place: Earthbound / Chrono Trigger / Terranigma / Secret of Mana / Super Mario RPG / Final Fantasy 6 2nd place: rise of the robots |

| Best Final Fantasy Game? With numbers? I have to say FF6, great story, gameplay, graphics, characters, and Kefka. Without numbers? FF; Crystal Chronicles. An underated game that people complained about because "OMG you need a gameboy to play it, do you think I'm millionarie?1??", but if you play it with friends, and work together to progress, it's absolutely brilliant. Even the one player mode was fun, trying to get the best artifacts of every stage.

| I was in a webchat with the two gits from Thumb Bandtis (Channel 4 late night show about gaming, hosted by vegetarian teetotaler gimp* Iain Lee) and I asked them what was their favourite FF game. Iain Lee responded by saying "they were all ****". He'd only played FF8. His co-host was undecided, having played a bit of FF6. *Nothing against vegetarians (I work with one) or with teetotalers (I drink like a fish) it's gimps I can't stand! Especially Iain Lee!

For my part, my favourite so far has been FFVII, but I've only played about half of the series. VIII had a very good story, but the gameplay was hideously unbalanced; it would have made a good movie, much better than Spirits Within. Last edited by kelvingreen; 4th August 2007 at 10:30 AM.

| Lakitu | Yes, I know. To be honest I have been dying to play through both V and VI, but they are large games that require a certain dedication that I cannot commit at the moment (nor do I own them). I'm currently playing through VIII and liking it a lot.

| Have you two played VII? or VIII? Because if you have you would at least think twice before putting them off the radar. VI was great too...

| Lakitu | Hrm....best Final Fantasy, huh? I think I may need to Categorize for this one. 2D-Generation Out of this generation, we have most FF games, from I-VI, not counting Mystic Quest because that game is a mockery of all that is RPG (The japanese called it Final Fantasy USA for Shiggy's sake, to make fun of us for making it so easy Final Fantasy IV had everything, I believe. Compelling story, terrific characters, awesome gameplay (Still the only Final Fantasy to have 5 party members, which gave Square license to make boss battles harder) and overall a great feel. Final Fantasy V was lacking in story a bit and more or less completely lacked character development, however it made up for most of it with it's solid Job-based gameplay which made it ridiculously fun and gave it HUGE replay value (if you didn't Master every job the first way through, that is, and focused on specific party combinations.) Final Fantasy VI had great story, wonderful characters, rich and vibrant graphics, and fun gameplay. The only problem I had with VI is that the story more or less just stopped once Kefka's Tower became accessible and you just had to go get all your characters back. There were little tidbits, but no where near as deep as IV. For the SNES, my favorite was Final Fantasy IV 3D-Generation The generation that supposedly set the bar for all RPGs in the future. Final Fantasy VII was indeed a very good title. With a good story that had many twists and turns, confusing character development, and truly great gameplay (the materia system was good, I admit) it was the gem of the Playstation. However, it came up short for me were some of the side-quests to get the more powerful equipment and materia were troublesome at best, or way too easy if you knew how to exploit a glitch. They weren't fun either, mostly repetitive (Getting the gold chocobo. You have to race SO MUCH omfg) Final Fantasy VIII is a game I have only witnessed. I have not tried it because I hated what I saw. Drawing? GFs? Come on Square, you've made better gameplay than that! Final Fantasy IX went back to old formulas, and it is still a game I have never tried, mainly due to my previous lack of Playstation. I was too lazy to go and buy it when I got my free PS2. It looked decent however, and gets my praise for good character design. Final Fantasy X will forever be one of the truly outstanding PS2 titles for me. Terrific story, awesome characters (Auron, 'nuff said) and a unique and tasteful return to turn-based battling. The summoning mechanics could have used some work though. It got boring just going back and forth, back and forth, OVERDRIVE, back and forth. Final Fantasy XI I played for a bit, but was unimpressed. I had already set my sights on World of Warcraft, which impresses me to no end to this day. Final Fantasy XII, gameplay wise is just an offline MMO. Many call it innovative. I call it rehashing from XI. Story and character wise, however, Square did very nicely. For the 3D gens, I have a tie between VII and X. *phew* quite the list, eh? Took me a fair bit of time to type this to. But, overall, the point of this is, my favorite Final Fantasy is... Final Fantasy IV I'm sorry, but Cecil and his story of Redemption is a tale that will forever be remembered by me. I have the original Final Fantasy II SNES cart, Final Fantasy Chronicles for the Playstation, Final Fantasy IV Advance, and when it is released, I will be getting Final Fantasy IV DS. The game was truly outstanding and still is. P.S.- PLEASE don't flame me for some of my opinions. I realize that other people actually like VIII, and these were merely my own views. It's cool if you like it, I won't make fun of you! |

| Lakitu | In my honest opinion I think X, it was my first Final Fantasy and it truly captivated me into the story, the soundtrack was fantastic and the character development is some of the best I've seen even by todays standards. That saying I haven't played all the Final Fantasy's, I've played all but the PS1 ones and XI. |

It sucks because its a perfectly average game that's hailed as the second coming of RPGs. It is not the best FF, it is not the best RPG(or anywhere near it), and it is my sworn mission to open the eyes of the 50 million idiots that are stupid enough to think it is, so blindly, when they didn't even play RPGs before 1997.

Best RPG btw is Chrono Trigger. Square's finest moment. At least, that's my opinion. A shame it was never released Europe-side. Definately worth the ROM and ZSNES download.

| You have to understand the context. I still remember when FF 6 and 7 were released. FF7 was a shock, because it was in 3D. It became popular because of (at that time) great graphics and in-game videos, and it's characters. Also, it was on Playstation, a widespread system and huge fan base. Now...the problem was that with FF7, many "new rpg gamers" appeared on scene. People that always stated that RPG were "boring", now loved the genre and started playing more RPGs because of FF7. The problem was that some of them, until now, had never played previous games on other systems. Everytime I talk with my younger friends, they only remember FF7, but nothing previous that. They heard of some "Chrono-something" and other Squaresoft games, but never played them. FF7 was in 3D. 3D was cool at that time. Cinematics were cool. Loading was cool too. If it was not in 3D, it was a bad game. Sprites were boring. Sprites were old. So, the game is now considered by some people as "the best game ever" because it was their first game and it was in 3D. 3D ruled the world at that time, but fortunately some people were not blind enough to consider it the best game ever just because of that. It takes more than 3D and an emo stabbing a flower girl to be considered the best of all times.

| Final Fantasy IV is my all time favorite with VI and VIII occupying 2nd and 3rd place respectively. XII is truly amazing as well although a lot of people don't seem to like it. |

| in Shinobi World | As soon as I've finished X, I think I'll get XII; I've heard very good things about it, and since I've started gaming on my PS2 again, why not? And wise words from Beholder there; one thing that's really bothered me in recent years, in both games and animation, is the sense that 3D is the only way to go, when it's merely one design choice from many. I'm a bit more fond of FFVII than Beholder seems to be, but it's clearly not the best console rpg out there, and is more than a little over-hyped. |

FF7's 3d was disgusting, it would've been a better game with sprites. I just tried to play it again last night. I'm at the spot right before you meet Tifa. The lack of utilization of the analog sticks(were they available in 1997? oh well, doesn't feel right playing a 3d game without them), the disgusting character avatars, sigh...FF7 isn't even the above average game it used to be, and I just can't get past looking at those characters. this morning i started playing Chrono Trigger, via Final Fantasy Chronicles for the PS. Now that has aged well. Chrono Trigger is still as good as it always has been. I'd rather see CT on the virtual console yes, but if you are in EU, you might as well download Zsnes or snes9x and get the rom, I mean, it's not like you are able to buy it, so, not really stealing is it. Like many of you, I think Square are a bit idiotic. They have some of the greatest games, but they don't seem to think that those of us in NA or EU regions will enjoy them, when we've proven that we do. Seiken Densetsu 3(JP only), Chrono Trigger(JP and NA), the list is huge.

| FF7 hasn't aged well. When I show the game to people that have never played it before, they tend to laugh a bit (no joke). My problem was that rendered backgrounds were a mess. It's difficult to know where to go,or where's the exit in that blurry picture. That's why they added those arrows in some places.

| The graphics in VII don't bother me, it's the damn Materia system. So many people swear by it but to me it really limited the gameplay and the party rotation. It got to the point where every character was essentially the same which limited the strategy elements of the game. There was no class differences because you could just swap Materia between party members. My end party was Cloud, Tifa and Cid but I could have easily just swapped their Materia and finished the game with the same strategy for a party of Yuffie, Red XIII and Cait Sith. |
