For the most part--IMO, the NES Final Fantasy still manages to have better music than the GBA version, which is tragic. I'm pretty sure that's nostalgia talking, though. The GBA changed the music too much for me to be able to like it.

Back to the OP of the thread, I really, really want to play Mother. If I had to pick one NES/Famicom game, that'd be it.

EARTHBOUND ZERO all the way...

I want to beat this game before I die. Or after I die... don't matter...
I played the US rom, had many laughs, got very far, and stopped because, you know, the experience on computers is edited/fuctup.
I save it now for a full experience on the VC.

And since I beat StarTropics and liked it (yeah, masochist) I would beat / play the sequel, too. Yeah, I'm not PLAYING games, I'm BEATING them.

If you have an NES you are able to purchase a cartridge with the ROM of Earthbound Zero written on it to play on a nice TV screen with a real controller. Of course it is rather expensive. Someday though, they will release the fully translated but never brought over Earthbound Zero in one form or another. Someday...

Final Fantasy won't happen on the Virtual Console. Square/Enix is too focused on remaking the old games for the DS and PSP.

I had Spy vs. Spy on the C64 and got on alright with single player. Infact I can't imagine being able to play it split screen properly since surely you'd see where your opponent was putting all their traps?

Strangely I thought that was what actually made it harder! trying to fool your opponent when they can see your screen. Although a lot of the rooms were purposefully designed to be almost identical to make it tougher.
Plus you could always pull the evil move of setting traps on all the doors to the final room and locking yourself in that way you can steal the game at the very last moment or force a draw as the time runs out.

My most wanted for NES would be:

Castlevania III
Ninja Gaiden III
Dragon Quest II-IV
Most Zapper games to encourage Wii Zapper development (Duck Hunt, Barker Bills, Hogans Alley and Wild Gunman the most eventhough I already own them.)
The Punisher
Duck Tales 1 and 2
Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers
Star Trek 25th Anniversary
Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout
Adventures in the Magic Kingdom
Phantom Fighter
Base Wars

Most of these however, I don't think will come. All except Castlevania III someday, unless Konami expects to remake it someday. And Ninja Gaiden III. Copyright issues and because the company is greedy/doesn't think it'll turn a profit will probably cause problems for the rest. And Square Enix won't ever bring over the Dragon Quest series when they can sell each game, remade or not, for 20+ dollars a pop in Japan.

I don't think we'll get Final Fantasy lll, since it was remade for the DS.

It would be nice to have Contra Force on VC. I never owned a physical copy of the game. The chances of getting it anytime soon are slim, but I'm sure they'll get around to it.

Anyone want to trade an actual copy?

There are a few NES games I'd love to see. I'm not going to include games like Final Fantasy, since I don't think there's much hope that they'll come. But here are some games that have a good precedent:

River City Ransom (released in Japan and Europe! — I want!)
Faxanadu (published by Nintendo in North America, if I'm not mistaken)
Romance of the Three Kingdoms (IV is already out, so the first is possible)
Destiny of an Emperor (sweet Capcom Three Kingdoms RPG)

I also really want the original Dr. Mario... I doubt the WiiWare version will have the same nostalgic charm for me.

Faxanadu was a great action RPG in the same vein as Zelda II: The Adventure Of Link. Sadly, it has been mostly forgotten by the general public. I saw and actual copy of this recently and picked it up so, I don't think I'd buy it on VC< but it would be a nice addition regardless.

I got it for my birthday back in 1990, just after it came out in North America. When I was finished with it, I lent it to a friend and he sold it!

Wikipedia tells me it was developed and released in Japan by Hudson Soft and published in North America and Europe by Nintendo. Given Hudson's aggressive VC support, there's some chance we'll see it eventually, maybe after they run out of TG16 games.

Short update

Like, I totally want Metal Storm, Journey to Silius (~raf World) and 1943 to come out
I mean, e.g. Metal Storm is by irem anyway, and we got a ton of games by irem, so why not that?

Damn right. I'm tempted to go emulate it for a while.

Hey, I wonder if they'll ever get around to releasing Hudson's Xexyz? It was an odd little platformer/shooter with lots of upgrades and a freaky futuristic fantasy setting. I had a lot of fun with the platforming sections but sucked at the shooter stages.

1. Metal Gear
2. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III

I never got the chance to play the original game in my favorite series, Metal Gear. Turtles 3 is the only Turtles game for the NES (besides Tournament Fighters) that I don't have, but I faintly remember playing it. If I remember right, it was the best in the series.
