wether it will or wont be the 300th VC game, i hope it will be a VC game in the future
lets see, it only has nintendo characters, nintendo has all rights and licenses to release it, and it's ESRB rated, look for yourself:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_mario_kart

*imo* it was the most successful mario kart ever, as i've seen and played
was easy to control, but had something unique: the npc's could use own weapons

* imo means "In My Opinion", so i'm not telling its the truth, just my opinion
not offense, but some people still take it as: i say its true, so dont discuss
and i dont mean on these forums only, so dont be offended

lets hope nintendo has the opinion: we think it should be released on VC

ps. i had a dream when was daydreaming which had SSBB characters in mario kart, with an extra mode: walk mode, so that you walk and fight to race

Well the new Punch-Out!! will be out in May and the 300th game will be out in June so it's not too far off.

I don't know what's behind Nintendo's reluctance to make money but I've given up waiting and bought it off ebay. Cost me more than a SNES VC version but it'll be worth it to play 60hz.
Can't believe Nintendo has an official PAL "version" world champion on their Wii channel. He actually practices to be world champion at a broken version of the game

Nintendo covers an SNES game on the Wii Channel? Really? That's not the Nintendo I've come to know in the past 2 years. Oo

Well it was more a way of promoting Mario Kart Wii but he was the reigning or former champ of PAL Mario Kart, he was kind of dismissive of the Wii Wheel and looked like the usual geeky stereotype they interview, but at least he was interviewed by someone with actual presenting skills instead of that stupid euro-nerd they usually drag out for there C64 segments.

Borat has nothing on their reporter but somehow the old C64 guys they interview are even more cringe inducing.

I wouldn't get too excited yet. Pilotwings has also been rated again and that was one of the first VC games to get rated.

If Nintendo gives SMK its usual PAL optimisation to remove borders then I'll get it as with SMK being already mostly speed corrected it'll be better than the SNES version I have which won't let itself be forced into fullscreen without glitching.

I recently picked up Pilowings for my Snes. Playing it for the first time I havn't really been able to get into it so I'd rather have the N64 version (ONLY IF THEY REMOVE THOSE HORIFFIC PAL BORDERS THOUGH!).

I'd like to think it could come any week. I mean hey, if Europe can get Majora's Mask before anyone else, then anything's possible...

thats the way i think too, i mean, why should SMK be 300th one? good games already came on VC without a rounded number
so it COULD BE that its 300th, but it seems that lot of people say its 300th because 300 is rounded number, maybe another good game get 300th place

imo celebrating for 300th game is weird, i rather have good games right now and i bet i'm not the only one

it can be nice that we count SMK as 300th, and if its sooner we are happier, but also could come later, then disappointed
its not official that it'll get here at a certain time, so i dont count on it, i just hope for coming very soon

just hoping that nintendo wont let us wait too long

And frankly, our "milestone" releases aren't necessarily good anyway).

50 - could be either Excitebike (meh) or Kirby's Adventure (better)
100 - F-Zero X (yay!)
150 - Super Metroid (yay!)
200 - Cruis'n USA (bah) and the first C64 titles (as an event it's good)
250 - seemingly ignored by Nintendo themselves - Sonic (Master System)? Boulder Dash? Jumpman?

Only 100 and 150 actually seemed to be recognised milestones per se.

Super Mario Kart would be a great addition to VC. Since it's a Ninten made game, I don't see why it wasn't on here before, but let bygones be bygones and just release the game already.

Default Super Mario Kart

Hello all,

Just joined here, also looking forward to a VC release of Super Mario Kart for the Wii i got last year.

I see a few of you heard of me from a few pages back when i had the interview with Nintendo for the Wii channel. It was for promotional purposes also, and my niece Leyla had an interview the same day which you may have seen as she competed in a Super Mario Kart tournament a few years ago when she was active. If anyone hasnt seen those i can show you the videos on youtube

Im still playing SMK on the SNES for now and training up for the next World Championship this August. There will be a team of 4 of us from the UK going, most of us in the South London area. Not sure how many SMK players are near Croydon but if anyone would like a challenge let me know.

Best Regards,

Sami Cetin

i havent see you yet, but now i do, welcome on these forums
i'd like to see those video's, or is it 1?
you may PM me with the link(s) if you want
i have 900 points left, but those go to Kirby's Dreamland 3
next time i buy a wii point card, i keep 800 for SMK
or SMK should be on VC before i buy it, then no need to keep the points

i'm hoping for this game to get to VC soon now, and then i go mad and use the points right away, lol

Default Super Mario Kart

Hello Kurachi,

Thank you for your post, yes i had the interview on the Wii Channel along with Leyla's at the beginning of they year, they filmed end of November 2008 if i remember correctly. It featured a small clip of Leyla's Super Mario Kart races. The first track Mario Circuit 1 she had an awful start, was catching up a bit then another mistake, but made a nice comeback at the last moment. The other races were cool to see aswell. It was a tournament for the lower tier/intermediate karters. There are 5 videos on youtube for her races but i wasnt sure if we are allowed to post links to videos on here. Probably is ok if others would like to see too, but please let me know, otherwise il send them to you in a PM.

There is also a trailer for the Super Mario Kart World Championship 2009 taking place next month which i am attending. They give cool prizes, the Top 5 will get DSIs this year, Wii's were handed out last year, and tonnes of other games etc...

Best Regards,

Sami Cetin

It would be useful if when you're there you can tell them we don't appreciate their PAL "versions" of games. perhaps as a champion of one of their games they might listen to you more than they apparently listen to us.

@ SamiCetinSMK
i think it wont be a problem to send those links, but if you're not sure, you can ask a moderator, like Yogurt
or just send in PM, and when you know you could put them on the forums

i'm watching more races of SMK on youtube, and i just cant wait for it to get to VC, cuz now i wanna get better than i was before
cuz back then, a friend had to get everything unlocked, he ended up not being a good friend in the end, so have to do it myself, but i have no objections
i like to be better

Default Super Mario Kart

Hello,

Batagam7, thank you for your message. The Tournament is run by a private company in France each year, however they are affiliated with Nintendo of France who recognise it as the official Super Mario Kart Championships, the prizes are provided by Nintendo of France and some other smaller ones. So not sure if i can influence them on the PAL releases of games. PAL SMK works fine though, i do have both PAL+NTSC versions and have their advantages and disadvantages. I do agree in some ways i wish there could have been just one version globally, but at the time of the snes creation this was not possible to do with ease. At the moment the tournaments are done on the PAL SMK as it is the home version in europe. There are NTSC ones available for exhibition matches etc also. We also arrange some smaller Super Mario Kart meets in South London, probably i will organise something for October.

Ok il post the links here to some vids youd like to see:

Most of you will have seen my interview already on Wii channel back at beginning of the year.

Ok plenty there to have a feel on whats happening in the Super Mario Kart Universe

We are hoping a Wii VC release will increase the activity on the game, so many are looking forward to it.

Best Wishes,

Sami Cetin

Not possible to do with the flick of a switch maybe (as 60hz allows or rather SHOULD allow us to do now) but there wasn't anything more difficult then about properly optimising a 50hz pal release as there is now as RAREWARE later showed. People were just more ignorant of the NTSC originals and so didn't get annoyed about it as they didn't realise they were getting defective merchandise.
It was still ultimately laziness then and its still laziness now with the VC releases (or in the case of Sega Hanabi titles plainly unexplainable).

I take your point about SMK PAL having its bonuses though as its actually probably the best PAL release for Snes as it was at least optimised for speed (if not borders and screen squash) and you drive faster over some areas in PAL than in NTSC, but then you know that being the champ and all.

It will be interesting to view the final VC PAL version as usually Nintendo eliminates the borders for VC releases.

Yeh wel see if the borders are still there if and when the game is released, either way it will be great to finally have it there.

NTSC SMK does have some characteristics such as a little less slowdown on the offroad, and easier to pull off NBT's. The turn angles are kind of wider after a long slide, making 150cc a little tougher on a few tracks with Bowser/D.K.Jr.

Yeh he was Dutch, although he was in that tournament as he wasnt a top level SMK player, but he came 2nd out of the 8 players there, just had a bad run on some of those. He is actually one of the best Mario Kart Double Dash (Gamecube) players in the World.

Leyla did really well, she became the 2nd fastest girl in the UK and has a British time trial record on Choco Island 2 fastlap. She retired by the end of 2007 and only played for demonstration purposes and some DS for fun. Though she may make a litle comeback in a mini tournament this October, nothing big, just more recreational fun thing...
