Default Terranigma playthrough - Interested parties?

Since I've been having a lot of fun with my SNES recently I've decided it really is time to get around to finally beating the one BIG game that defeated me all those years ago.

Terranigma, for those who might not know, is the final game in the Soul Blazer 'Trilogy'. Years ago I got all the way to the final boss but was unable to best him and its something that's haunted me for too long.

I know that some people on here own the game which is, due to its PAL only Western release, both expensive and rare but I wondered if anyone would care to joing me in a playthrough or even consider picking up the game for the rather hefty price it goes for online and joining in.

A sort of unofficial retro one off gaming club then for one of the greatest ARPG's the SNES produced.

Any takers let me know and we'll set a date and time for when the quest will begin...

I will join in on this, but I need to figure out how to play it first. Google will help me, but only when I get home from work.

I would join but I save me my next playthrough for when it hits the VC.

How much is the original game nowadays?

Quite a lot. The cart alone averages between £50 and £60 on ebay and a boxed complete version (like I have ) can go for £75 to well over £100. Sealed copies are sometimes listed for as high as £600

Of course the resell value is always there which is how I look at purchases like this. Even when a VC version becomes available (which could be years away given that we havn't even gotten Soul Blazer yet) its unlikely to effect the price of the game...that boat (idea) sailed quite quickly after the VC launched.

I picked mine up for £39.99 at a time when SNES shelf space was on its way out. I'm so glad I did! To think I even deliberated over it.

If only we knew then what we know now, eh?

I know of at least one other VCFer who has the game: that being Ausden...but then that guy has all the great SNES RPGs.

Cool

I've seen prices from €40,- (cartridge) to €70,- (boxed complete).
Even a german version for €12,- ... (all on "Marktplaats.nl")
Just found a "RetroGameWinkel" that sells it at €49.95.
That's about £42,-

Not that I'm going to buy it ...

If you see any English version for 40EU let me know! I am, of course, not going to emulate this classic.

The €40,- cartridge is supposed to be an english version (at least the seller
put that behind the title): see Marktplaats.nl
But I don't think I can help you further as I don't do e-bay/marktplaats.
Google got me there when searching for Terranigma. At least it gave me
2 new online shops that sell retro games (eugames.nl and retrogamewinkel.nl),
might check them out sometime.

here's a true bizzarity for the NA's:

Terranigma (English Version) SNES Super Nintendo - eBay (item 120588071022 end time Jul-24-10 21:18:28 PDT)

Incidentally its worth noting that Terranigma has some copyright protection that prevents it being played on clone systems like the FC Twin.

It's SNES or bust folks

I've heard that Terranigma has the more advanced region encoding found on later SNES games where it doesn't just check the region of the console you are playing it on but also the hz the game is running at.

This might mean you could only run it by booting it in 50hz and then switching to 60hz once loaded. This would require a switch similar to the one I have on my SNES. I have to do the same fiddling about for some of my PAL carts (Pop n Twinbee, for example) by booting them in 50hz before the system will let me flip them to 60hz.

Where's Ausden? I'm sure he owns the game with his humungous collection of SNESRPGS.

Wow do I wish I had this one Bet! This and FFIII are eluding me right now. In fact, when I first found out it wasn't an NA released game, I stopped worrying about getting it in my collection...not saying I don't constantly enjoy reading about it and seeing videos on youtube.

You sir are in possession of a fantastic game I dont and probably wont have. Btw, this idea of yours is awesome, we should do this with other SNES RPG games (Paladin's Quest,Robotrek,7th Saga).

I can't believe I'm just now seeing this thread. Oh well, I'll be watching this project closely.

Poop!

Looks like nobody owns or can feasibly own the game to join me...oh well.

Stay tuned for my new thread, to be entitled:

'Radiant Silvergun playthrough - interested parties?'

I could at least play the spiritual sequel to that one.

I'm still interested in acquiring the means to play Terranigma. The cost isn't such a big issue, mainly just figuring out how to do everything I need to do amidst conflicting info on the net. You'd have to be patient though.

You would either need

1. PAL SNES (perhaps the easiest way but you'd have to play in 50hz with its drawbacks)

2. PAL SNES with 50/60hz switch so you could flick over once the game booted

3. PAL/NTSC and 50hz/60hz switches added to your NTSC SNES to trick the game into thinking you were doing both of the above.

I'll have to check to make sure my TV can play 50Hz. Wouldn't I also need a special power adapter for my PAL SNES, and/or couldn't the power difference cause problems for the game?

Modding sounds complicated enough that I'd probably just have to buy a pre-modded system, since I don't think there are many people who do that around here.

Step down converters have always worked fine for me with import consoles. Just the cheap sort you get in airport shops and the like. Shouldn't matter if your TV can read 50hz or not since you'd be wanting to switch to 60 hz anyway after the few seconds it takes for the game to boot.

I got mine done from a guy called Chaotic Jelly but his shop seems to have disappeared from the internet although you could try contacting him through his ebay shop details to see what he can do:

http://members.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISA...d=chaoticjelly

Very reliable guy I found, and if you google him he appears all over forums helping people with their mods. Last I checked he sells pre-modded PAL SNES's.

Pre-modded PAL SNES with a step-down and a copy of the game might be my best recipe. I'll look into it. Thanks!
