They're all going to be about 15-20 years old so what's the point in making this thread?

The Priceville Footbridge, at 200 m, is the longest suspension footbridge in New Brunswick, Canada. It spans the Southwest Miramichi River at McNamee, approximately 12 km west of Doaktown, New Brunswick.

The footbridge, constructed in 1938, had a single span, but was destroyed during the spring freshet of 1939, with three lives lost. A second bridge was built in 1939. This bridge was replaced by a third footbridge in 1988. The two latter bridges, unlike the original, used two spans to cross the river.

The bridge is shared by Priceville and McNamee, and therefore known as the Priceville Footbridge to residents of Priceville, and the McNamee Footbridge to residents of McNamee. A 2005 poll shows that 61% of the entire community population generally refers to the bridge as the "McNamee Footbridge". This government poll created some uproar and anger from the residents of Priceville, many claiming that it was an "unfair biased poll". Regardless of its name, it is a very important piece of history in the community. The bridge is provincially owned, and maintained by the New Brunswick Department of Transportation.

Well, many things... as to know how durable this console can be...

SNES have a robust hardware and a poor hull that yellow with the years.

The SNES console can be very durable, often lasting 15-20 years.

The console yes, the controller no and the hull (yellow with time) no, too.

I think that first model of Genesis/Mega Drive a more robust and durable console than SNES.

The only thing that's ever happened to my controllers is that one of the shoulder buttons doesn't work anymore.

The hull turning yellow doesn't really mean the console's "broken" though.

I don't know about the Genesis, but I have a feeling that the fact that they released two more models after the first means it wasn't all that durable. My Genesis still works, of course.

If you keep it in sunlight most the time. ;P

About 20 years for mine. Sadly, it got rejected a lot thanks to my sister's Mega Drive and Sonic the Hedgehog. Even after she sold it, I had an N64 by then. It wasnt till recent years when I got more serious about retro gaming, thanks to the VC, and brought a Super Scope and the bundled game with it. It was my 3rd SNES game, and first in over 10 years! XD

My SNES library has 12 games now, but that doesnt compare to my new Mega Drive's 40+ games and 32X and MegaCD attachment and games obtained in less then a year... T.T

Yes, but the hull is tramp.

I didn´t like the smaller models. Sega released this models to reduce costs... until the stereo ear-phone out was cut in this versions.

I didn´t like the SNES baby model too... seems more fragile than original model.

Thanks to Jogurt for the most usefull poll in this thread .

Anyway i wouldn't know how old my SNES is as i only got it secondhand at a garage sale for $3 complete with 3 games .
I agree its a strurdy & rugged system as my SNES show signs of a little abuse as there is a slight crack in the rear vent but other than that & the slight yellowing its a fine find even the controller that it has works fine even thou it obviously been desanated as player 4 via the dots it has .

I like the fact that each of the face up action button has its own colour .

Certain plastics turn yellow over long term exposure to direct sunlight. There are ways to reverse the discolouration though. If you would like to know how just do a simple google search.

Oils and moisture have also been known to discolour plastics. Like I said there are ways to reverse the effects of the yellowing.

Make sense. Sometimes, I used alcohol to clean it.

I know about this ways to reverse the effects of the yellowing, but seem a bit complicated to make, no ?

I'm sure cigarette smoke also has an impact on the plastic. Beyond the obvious reasons, though, the SNES plastic is notorious for its yellowing, so it has to be some kind of weird problem above and beyond normal aging.

I don't mind my yellow SNES, to be honest. It wears it like a badge of honour.

To add to the yellowing problem while you guys above mantion the environmental conditions theres also another aspect that leads back to the manafactiong .
From what i heard the yellowing can be added to the fact that the mix within the plastic isnt quite right .
The two tone effect like the above picture & my SNES is due to the fact that the plastic's are from different batches & of coarse different mixure in the ingredients in the plastic between the plastics .

Maybe Nintendo should haved used a glossy black plastic at least it doesn't yellow .

the yellowing has nothing to do with the sun in the SNES's case. thats why the two tone, it has everything to do with the plastic they used in the particular pieces that yellow. its only certain years they did this too, if i remember right. i looked it up once a while back, but i forget all the details, just that the normal culprits (sun and cig smoke) are NOT the cause in this case.

proof is mine, which never yellowed in the sun or smoke, but my buddies whose did yellow with no sun or smoke.

its at my rents house now, and its about as old as the rest of them, 16 years or so i guess.... works great, controllers all good, etc.

way more durable than the gennys IMO.

they may not change color, but they break more often in my experience. im not even sure ive even seen a broken snes console other than the power cord wearing out from wrapping it around itself too tight/too often

My SNES says it was made in 1992 as you can see it hasn't yellowed too badly:

The main (indeed the only) yellowing is on the outer upper ridge that runs along from the point where the piece of plastic with the SNES logo on it ends. It seems to get worse the further back it goes:

Yes, I really have no idea what was behind the thinking of the NA SNES design, evidently someone wasn't pleased with the original Famicom design and wanted it to look more "cool".

The mods are just two little switches (the little siver things on the back). One lets me flip the console between PAL and NTSC. The other lets me flip it between 50hz and 60hz.

It also has a widened cart slot for those, again ugly, NTSC games (although I do prefer how the label flips over the top of the cart and how they have those little plastic circuit protectors on the NTSC carts).

It also has a blue superbrite LED which can't be seen here which was added just for ****s and giggles.

I should give it a custom paint job and enter it in 'pimp my SNES'

They succeeded. Although I do want to get it running with Terranigma somehow.

Do what I did and add some switches, you can then play the PAL version and force it to run at NTSC speeds.

Incidently: is your favourite artist Picasso?

I'll look into the switches thing. Is the PAL version slowed down (presumably from the J-NTSC version)?

You can keep all your smart modern painters, I'll take Rembrandt, Titian, Da Vinci, and Gainsborough.

Yes. The only SNES games I know of that arn't are the Donkey Kong Country games as they run in optimised 50hz thanks to Rare.

Terranigma won't allow you to start the game in 60hz as it also has some of the more advanced sneaky region protection that incorporates running speed into the bargain (proof that they knew about the difference!).

It's easy to get around though, just boot it at 50hz and once the title screen hits, flick the switch for 60hz.

Wherever possible the best bet is to get NTSC games though as some PAL SNES games glitch when you force them into 60hz and SSF2 has a really nasty habit of checking mid-game that you are running them at the "correct" speed!

Terranigma is honestly the only PAL SNES game I can think of that I'd want to import.

I can't think of any other PAL exclusives, let alone good ones. NA pretty much got everything in the way of exclusives back then. We lived on dregs and got maybe a handful of RPG's which made Terranigmas appearence even stranger.
