Default Recommend me some N64 games.

I'm thinking of getting an N64 from one of my local used game stores, but I'm having a little bit of trouble coming up with games to buy. I thought about posting this thread on Nintendolife, but I trust your guys' opinions more, and I know there's 2 Germans on this site that would be more than willing to give me some suggestions.

Keep in mind though that I have the following N64 games on VC:

Paper Mario
Pokemon Puzzle League
Sin & Punishment
Starfox 64
Zelda: Majora's Mask

And I also have Ocarina of Time: Master Quest.

Some I'm considering are the Pokemon Stadiums (always wanted to play them ever since I was a kid), Excitebike 64, and Rare's games, particularly Perfect Dark and Goldeneye.

If I were you I'd buy:
Jet force gemini (3rd person shooter) Awesome game imo.
Donkey kong 64
Banjo kazooie
Mystical ninja starring goemon 1 & 2, the second one is a sidescroller platform and the first one is a lot like Zelda. Both are very enjoyable
and ofcourse perfect dark and goldeneye

I personally wouldn't recommend pokémon stadium, gets boring after about 3 hours unless you're a hardcore pokéfan!

I just realized this post makes me look like a Rare fan

Since you'll probably get many recommendations for the obvious franchises. here are some hidden gems the N64 offers outside the big names:

Rocket: Robot on Wheels

A little known but highly praised and very innovative 3D platform game that, in my honest opinion, is up there with SM64, Banjo Kazooie and anything else the N64 can offer in the genre.

Space Station: Silicon Valley

A unique combination of platformer and puzzler where you control a multitude of robotic animals through some of the best designed levels the machine has to offer.

Body Harvest

The ugly, forgotten offspring of the people who would later become famous for taking the GTA license into 3D thankfully plays like a dream. A time travelling, giant bug blasting, genuinely unique B-movie of a game

Beetle Adventure Racing

The only must have racing game worth having on the N64 that isn't called F-zero. A fun, frenetic, gorgeous game that has been on the VC release list for something approaching four centuries now!

Snowboard Kids

Okay, so I lied about BAR being the only one!

Why recommend them at all then then if you don't believe in them? Wouldn't it have been better to give him a small selection of games you actually think are worth it?

Because then I wouldn't have been able to recommend anything.

I would go for these standards first before looking for the rest:

Mario 64
Banjo - Kazooie
Banjo - Tooie
Zelda OOT
Zelda MM
Conkers Bad Fur Day
DK 64
Gex 64
Mischief Makers
Paper Mario

Have fun with it !!

It could be said that you still havn't.

If your opinion is that the N64 has nothing worthy of recomendation then isn't it better to give him that view before he commits to buying one, rather than "recommend" something you don't actually rate?

Heh, truth be told, the only reason why I did up that list was to out-do SKTTR(who still isn't here yet, oddly enough), but I've only played maybe 15 N64 games and only liked 4 or 5 of them. So I went on Wikipedia and added anything that didn't look completely horrible.

Of course, once I was done with it, I realized that I don't know anything about most of those games, but instead of deleting it all and only leaving the stuff I actually meant to recommend, I decided to just add that stupid comment on the bottom of it as a warning that the post was completely useless.

As for the follow up comment...for some reason I thought it sounded witty and decided to put it out there, since I was too tired to just fix everything then and there.

Sorry I wasted your time, Mr. Cheez. I'll edit my post so that it only contains the stuff I meant to recommend, and I'll try to excersize more self-control from now on.(something I've admittedly never been very good at)

Out-do what??
I own more than 80 N64 games and I have beaten... ALL of them.

What should I answer?!
Mr. Cheez wants to get Excitebike 64, Perfect Dark and GoldenEye as I read in the first post!
What else should I recommend?!
He already chose the best racing game and the 2 best first person shooters on that system!

I'm waiting for the moment he beats those 3 games and then comes back to ask for more N64 recommendations.

Also, dawgpuke and Betagam7 recommended some great titles so I didn't feel the need to duplicate.

Its also a form of what gamegenres that you search for. If he goes for platforming I would recommend the list I have set up.
Though I congrat you with the owning of more than 80 N64 games. The system wasnt that bad, I think people underrate it too much (though it has the smallest library).

Mischief Makers- Best 2D platformer on the N64...Actually, the only one. Yoshi's Story and Kirby 64 are 2.5D ..And they're nowhere near as good as Mischeif Makers anyways.

PS Forgot about Goemon, which I haven't plaeyed.

Here's a list of all the good N64 games:

Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber — Awesome strategy RPG (mostly strategy) with tons of depth and HOURS of playing time.
