| SSB isnt advanced, like melee and brawl, especially brawl, but its fun to play i did wish some SSB stages would be in brawl, but i guess they thought it wasnt worth it, so i made some myself with stage builder, including some "board the platform" and "break the targets" stages on brawl brawl can make history come back stage builder really gives you lots of choices for me games are to have fun with, in a way that i dont need fighting only in fighting games, like brawl has its stage builder and some more stuff like coin launcher and you could collect stickers and cd's with some custom made cd factory in SSB wasnt much else, SSB however, isnt as big as melee and brawl, like having less attacks like left/right + B, so it could be seen as a real fighting game, same with pokeballs, they dont have much strong pokemon in them, and just a few, so it balances out at anything it dont matter than brawl and melee are better, or way more advanced, it doesnt make SSB bad its just like: SSB is a good fighting game, and SSBM and SSBB have more in them, so its not much of difference if you look at gameplay, SSB is just smaller i did buy SSB back then in N64 days, and i still got it on VC, so that i use my wii for all 3 smash bros and yes, this is where it started, so those who like retro games, will buy this... or at least 90% will i guess

| I didnt mention that the game is a disaster or something, I just think this is more for the die hard and nostalgic fans of it, if you look to games such as Mario 64 and Zelda for instance, these games have more to offer in different ways. For me most of the fighting games are more based on newer 'better' versions just like sports. Though I have to admit SSB had some nice stages in it we dont get to see back, but watching at other VC games I would pick many other games before it. In my concern I would always choose a game with story or platformer before fighting/party/sports or the game must be very unique which SSB isnt (in my opinion) only because its the first one. Though if you never owned or played it I suggest you try it out at a friend first or something, the game isnt bad it just lacks in battle system etc. compared to the newer versions.

| The N64 is retro? If VC games had online play, this would be a must buy. Unfortunately, fighters are really dull single player (and there's no incentive to play single player in SSB), and noone I know would play this over Brawl. |

| Monty Mole | @RetroNL. Finally, someone here who doesn't look at this game through rose-tinted specs. Normally I'd say Europe can keep this game, but I want it to release over here just so the idiots over at Nintendolife would shut their traps. I'd much rather have an N64 game that still has some relevance today, like Mischief Makers and Excitebike 64... As for the people who say that this game is still worth playing due to slicker combat and better stages, I'll have to disagree on that. I've played the Hyrule and Mushroom Kingdom castle stages, along with the three stages included in Melee, but I didn't think they were all that special. SSB's combat also felt rough around the edges (at least to me), and didn't feel nearly as smooth as Melee's (though it did feel better than Brawl's slow, floaty controls). |

| I don't really like this game as much as when it was released either. I gave this a try when I was recently playing on my N64 for old times sake. Sadly it just felt limiting and sluggish compared to when I first played it 8 years ago. I don't really care that this still isn't out in NA, because there are better VC games out there. It's not bad, just not as good as it used to be. Last edited by slangman; 8th October 2009 at 04:35 PM. |

| If it's not "current gen" (i.e. Wii, PS3 or 360), then surely it must be retro? |

| If it's on the VC, then it's retro. More on-topic: Super Smash Bros. is definitely not as fun to play since the sequels came out but I still respect it and think it deserves to be on the VC. |

| Koopa Trooper | I just bought this game and I am playing on the Classic Controller. I really cant get the control scheme down it just seems very akward to me. |

I wish Nintendo would just make an adaptor for the N64 pad...of course that would acknowledge that its still possible to get older machines which is something Nintendo is never keen to do.

| Yeah, what betagam said. It's commonly known that a Gamecube Controller is often the best way to play N64 games on VC and I share that opinion. I downloaded SSB too and I can't get used to play it with a CC, always using GC. Sin & Punishment though has a completely overworked control scheme that is different from the original N64. It worked with a CC for me although I had to switch from default to Control Type B or C. Well, it had some quite unique controls in the first place... compared to all the other games on the N64. So it doesn't matter if you play the original with a N64 Controller or the VC version with CC or GC, you always had to get used to it because it's really different. Coming to think of it, all Treasure games had some unique controls. Mischief Makers and Bakuretsu Muteki Bangai-O were the same. But they always were a blast to play once you got used to it and I call their controls perfect. Sin&Punishment though isn't perfect since aiming with an anaolguestick ís crap, but that's not the developers fault, just my personal opinion. Thanks to the Wii pointer, this will be a lot smoother in the sequel. Last edited by SKTTR; 22nd February 2010 at 03:15 PM. |

| Banzai Bill | I must be the only one who uses classic controller for everything. I had no problems getting use to the SSB CC controls. |

| Try for an original one as the third party efforts are naff. A Wavebird would be nice as the lack of Rumble won't matter with with VC titles. Speaking off which did Nintendo leave that rumbling stone that you can find in the VC version of Zelda: OOT?

It's one of the big Zelda's, but it seems that no-one has actually downloaded this! Hello? ![]() So, they have left the rumble stone in, haven't they? Isn't there at least a modification, like when you acquire the Rumble Stone it's going to tell you "This item does nothing in the Virtual Console version. If you want this item to work get either the N64 or Gamecube version." or is it just a lazy Mario Golf like "Well, you have the four hidden character slots there but you won't ever unlock them in the VC version". Confirmation please. | |

| I can comfirm that the Rumble Stone is still in OoT and that it does not tell you that it is completely useless on the VC. |

| I'm pretty certain that Nintendo will NEVER tell anyone to buy GC or N64 games in their VC manuals. Thems for future re-releasing.

| The one-player mode is the game's biggest weakness but the multi player battles rock. It is very Easy to pick up, great controls and simple yet addictive gameplay. There is very Nice graphical effects and well-drawn backgrounds also.
