Question Donkey Kong 64

How many here are hoping DK64 gets VC'd?

I am; mainly for the multiplayer on it. Me and my buddies in school had alot of fun with it for some reason. Wonder how that has held up.

Now we know that the expansion pak can be emulated there would seem to be no reason against it. They might remove the unlockable Donkey kong and Jetpac games though.

Why do we only discuss the overrated games on the N64 board? I can honestly say I'm not waiting for this.

Why all the hostility Keeper?

Either way, I don't think I'd download it; unless enough of my buddies come back in the area and convince me its worth it for the multiplayer.

Its pretty sweet, but N64 3D platformer #4, but its in Banjo and Mario's league, it's better than Sunshine and Galaxy though!

Hostility towards DK64?

I was just terribly disappointed by it when I got it back in the days. Some of the minigames were frustrating as hell (the one where you have to lure the critters into the pits for example), the necessity of beating the Arcade DK (even twice in a row if I'm not mistaken) to advance and the lack of just repeating the Arcade game by the press of a button (instead you had to walk around again and again every time) also annoyed me and having to retread old ground 4 times (once with each ape) is also plain stupid and lazy design just to lengthen the playtime.
In addition the level design was up to Banjo-Kazooie's standard IMO.
Super Mario 64, BK, BT, Conker, the first N64 Goemon to some distinct, both Chameleon Twists, Rocket, Glover, Rayman 2...the N64 wasn't exactly short in excellent 3D Jump 'n Runs, so tehre's no need for DK 64.

I dunno. It was a decent fun game. Not as good as DK1 or DK2 from SNES, but lots better than DK3.

Conkers on VC would be an INSTANT download; but since Xbox got a port of it, I doubt we'll see it.

havn't played it as I refused to pay the ludicrous price at the time for a game that came bundled with an expansion pak I already had (£60 as I recall) but if its better than Super Mario Galaxy as stated by Digiki I may just have to reshape my grip on reality.

By your logic of pricing - I'm not sure if 10$ is worth it either then.

Not sure what you mean.
N64 games used to cost £39.99 in England. Nintendo charged £59.99 for DK64 on the grounds that it had an (entirely useless to me) expansion pak free with it. Many people already had bought the expansion pak to play Perfect Dark but we were not given the option to buy a standalone DK64 at a cheaper price instead if we wanted the game we had to pay £20 more to accomodate the price of a useless item.
On the contrary the VC price of 1000 points (£7) is more than a reasonable price to play a game. However if Nintendo bumped the price up to say 1500 points (about £10.50) on the grounds that you were paying extra as the game used the expansion pak then I might have similar reservations for similar reasons.
I didn't need to pay for another expansion pak so why should I.

Yeah, DK64 did cost £60 at the time. (Still puzzled why my mum actually bought it when I was very young). It is a great game, but it is quite frustrating in places (especially some of the repeated mini games just to get golden bananas. I won't be downloading though, since I still have the N64 cart.

i never played it, and have no desire to. many more n64 games i would rather see, and pay for way before this one. but i think it will be released, and im happy for the fans of it.

Well it depends on what you like, I didn't like Galaxy's emphasis on style over substance, as well as it being a walk in the park, and the restrictive level design. And Sunshine's FLUDD just watered down the gameplay (I are punny). If you like Banjo, you should like this too, but it's not quite as good.

Like I said; I still think the best (and most redeeming) quality of DK64 was the multiplayer.

If I remember correctly, bNintendo did offer an exchange of your extra Expansion Pak for a game.

I have the cart, but really couldn't get into it. I got all the characters, played both retro games (Donkey Kong and Jetpac). Made it to a cardboard K Rool, and lost interest.

Jetpac was the best part abot DK 64. I got completely hooked when trying it out for the first time.

I don't understand why this game is so underrated, it's as good as Banjo-Kazooie and better than Mario 64 but that's just my opinion.

Underrated? It's overrated! Just because a couple of people here show their dislike doesn't make it an underrated game. It's got a 9.0 out of 10 on metacritic for example.

I've seen a lot of people show their dislike for the game over the years. Metacritic scores are fairly meaningless, but if we're going by that then Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie both score higher which makes it underrated there are well (according to my opinion).

No, it doesn't. It would make Super Mario 64 and BK overrated to you, but their rating has nothing to do with DK 64 being over- or underrated.

It's all relative; SM64 is overrated relative to DK64 and DK64 is underrated relative to SM64, you can have both. But I don't care because I don't pay attention to review aggregators anyway.

Don't remember anything about that but again if its true why couldn't they have just offered the game without the EP as an alternative.

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but: Would Jetpac's presence in the original game decrease the chance of DK64 getting a VC release?

Maybe a little bit since they would probably have to remove it, and therefore replace it with something.

They could probably just replace it with Arcade donkey Kong again however with the launch of VC arcade its debatable whether Nintendo will want to include that game free either.

I've been putting off firing up my N64 cart of this for months now; I hope it's released soon because I'm one of those who absolutely loved it. My memories of it are great - rescuing all the Kongs, changing into their animal forms, the brilliant levels... even though I never finished it it was one of my favourite N64 games.

They could, but it'd be kind of mean, since that'd make the DK arcade game necessary for the two important items, that are both required to do the thing that they do.

If they were to take out Jetpac I think they would make it so Crankey would just give you the coin when you get enough medallions instead of having to play Jetpac.

Oh yeah, I forgot you needed 15 medals to play Jetpac, so that would be a pretty reasonable option.

I hope it gets to the VC console, i have it on N64, and i still play it, but it deserves to make it to the VC console, so anybody who missed out on it will get a chance to experience what a great game it is
