Underrated
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask — overshadowed by its inferior predecessor

Well-rated
Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber — generally considered pretty good, not rated poorly... and it is pretty good... lost gem, I guess

Overrated
All the rest of them.

Underated (games that scored poorly or were largely ignored that I enjoyed):

Rocket: Robot on Wheels (one of the best 3d platformers on the system)
Hybrid Heaven
Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness
Winback: Covert Operations
Fighters Destiny

Overated (games that got great scores but I found terrible)

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil

Hidden Gems (games that scored well but are often forgotten in lists)

Body Harvest
Spacestation Silicon Valley
every AKI wrestling game

I completely agree with this list but I would add Mischief Makers and Ogre Battle 64 to the hidden gems and Majora's Mask and Wave Race 64 to the overrated.

be grateful you didn't have to play the PAL version, or the PAL VC version for that matter.

I found Space Station Silicon Valley overrated, its relativly unknown but has great ratings, it was pretty fun, but kind of clunky.

Cruis'n World is pretty underrated, lots of tracks, lots of cars, pretty quick gameplay and stunts.

I think I was going to add something else but I forget what it was at the moment.

Overrated
Lylat Wars (Star Fox 64, I'm not a big Star Fox fan, there are better games in the same genre)

Underrated
Donkey Kong 64
Paper Mario (not badly rated but I think it should be praised even more than it is)

I guess DK64 is a bit underappreciated since its a top class 3D platformer, although on the same note there are 3 better ones on the same system (not much better albiet)

Overrated:
Meh.

Underrated:
Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness - One of my favorite N64 games.
Glover - Unique, similar to Super Mario 64 in ways.
Quest 64 - RPG, with a really unique battle system. Bad camera though.
Body Harvest - I think it's the first sandbox game.
Mischief Makers - Nice 2D 64 game.

Good call on Glover, forgot about that one but its another of those games you expect to be terrible but turn out to be actually pretty great. A DS version or Wii version would work great.

There was going to be a sequel for the 64, but it was cancelled. There's a few pics on Unseen 64. I remember hoping it would be ported to GC, but now that I think about it Wii, would be even better.

Overrated:
Banjo series (I just couldn't get into them. I liked the characters but i guess I just have a permanent dislike for 3D platformers)

Underrated:
Hmmm....well, I didn't own any underrated games for the 64 because I got into it a bit late but I guess if I were to choose one it would be:
Gauntlet Legends (I never owned the game myself but I had fun with it at a friend's place)

A bit Underrated:
Paper Mario (just because it's that awesome)

Paper Mario 64 is vastly underrated.

It's 500 times greater than Ocarina of Time, and possibly the greatest game Nintendo has ever made.

Everything about that game was perfect. And I'll fight anyone on that.

Overrated: Ocarina of Time. Really people, it's not the greatest game ever.

And I agree with Alexsays that Paper Mario (not just the first game, but the entire series) is one of Nintendo's greatest achievements. The first one is definitely a lot better than OoT. As for underrated games, I never had an N64, and thus can't answer that part of the question.

@Fierce_Deity. Forgot all about Glover. I remember the TV ads.

But Ogre Battle 64 didn't sell well, so I'll consider it underrated.
...The N64 was SOO popular, so of course all of the other game on it would be overrated.

Crusin World deserved the rating it got.

Not as good as Super Metroid (yes, I now it's an N64 title, but you also said it was possibly Nintendo's greates game, which is Super Metroid. Fact, not opinion ). I don't know where I'd rank Paper Mario, but it's one of Nintendo's top 10 games.

I agree.

BTW to everyone on this forum, one would suspect everyone here hates Zelda games at a first glance. I'm going to assume everyone heres abosolutely LOVES aLttP and just don't like OoT.

Overrated Game: All Rare games.
Most first party Nintendo titles (with the notable exception of Majora's Mask).

Well, you see, the thing is that most people tend to agree with you (maybe not that it was better than OoT, but that it was great overall), so that doesn't make it underrated, that makes it accurately-rated.

I think I can vaguely remember those commercials as well, but I can't find them online.
But I personally feel OoT gets the credit it deserves. It's tied with Majora's Mask for my favorite game of all time. And I don't buy into hype at all. It's possible I could be looking at it mostly through nostalgia goggles, but I still love the game.

Underrated
Blast Corps
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon
Paper Mario (If only because such a great game was released unfortunately at the end of a not-100% popular system's life)
Yoshi's Story (Be quiet, this was one of my favourite games when I was seven!)

I don't like calling things overrated, but I was never a big fan of Goldeneye or Perfect Dark, to this day I'm not a fan of the FPS genre. Goldeneye has a brilliant atmosphere to it though, something about those bullet sound effects is so exciting!

Yeah but I never see it up there with Ocarina and Mario 64 and WhateverOtherGame N64 people really liked.

To me it's like the great game everyone knows is great but still gets thrown under the rug most of the time.

Or I could just love it so much, anything other than giant monuments built in its honor seem to be cutting it short.

Although I love Paper Mario, it is somewhat overrated since once you've completed it, what else is there to do in the game?

I also think there are other overrated games but I'd rather not say in case a riot happens .

Is Sin and Punishment underrated? Although I rarely play it it does seem to be a very good game that's different to anything I've played so far on the N64.

Eh? That's true about many games, Paper mario was never designed to be replayable over and over again and no-one expected it to be really. Fair enough if you think it's over-rated but I don't think it's for the right reasons.

Over-rated:
Blast corps
Mario tennis
Turok games

under-rated:
Yoshi's island
Mario kart 64 (compared to the original)
pokemon stadium (back when mini games rocked)
conkers bad fur day

Maybe because everyone on www.vc-forums.com seems to think it's the greatest thing ever?

A game shouldn't be classed as over-rated because you can't do anything when it's finished (other than start a new game) specially if the game isn't known for, nor does it claim to have replayability.

I've played a ton of Paper Mario, I've probably played almost 100 hours of it (not on one file) since I've played it so many times.

While Paper Mario is a bit over-rated, that doesn't mean it's a bad game, it just means it gets more attention then it deserves, while it is fun to play through again. I myself have played it through about 15 times, one time quite recently. It might not have instant replay-ability, but once a year or so, once the story has been forgotten, it gets fun again!

You mean, once you've beaten the last boss?

- What about all those sidequests?
- What about that hidden character?
- What about collecting all these special badges?
- What about gathering all that enemy information?
- What about collecting all those star pieces?
- What about cooking all recipes?
- What about maxing out your level?

I mean, there's so much of stuff to do in this game!!
And you all talk about no replay value?? I can't understand.

It's the same as in Paper Mario 2 and Super Paper Mario.
It has so much replay value!!
I've beaten every Paper Mario game 100%.
It took me about 80-100 hours for each game.
And I'm talking about 1 playthrough, not multiple files.

At least how can a great, innovative and fun 1000 Wii Points rpg be overrated ever??

Oh, I was responding to "Fair enough if you think it's over-rated but I don't think it's for the right reasons.". I thought it was overrated because everyone on these forums (not you, personally) thinks it's the greatest thing ever (no fault of the game's).

I don't recall anyone calling Paper Mario a bad game. Maybe not the greates thing ever, but certainly one of the Top 100 Games Of All Time.

Over-rated:
Blast corps
Mario tennis
Turok games

under-rated:
Yoshi's island
Mario kart 64 (compared to the original)
pokemon stadium (back when mini games rocked)
conkers bad fur day
To be fair you are right to an extent, but I think a game that has good replay value (even if it has multiple endings) makes that game good. An overrated game (to me) is one that can only be played once, I am not trying to convince people that it is overrated that's just my opinion on the subject. Maybe I will play it once I've forgotten the story but to me something overrated is something that cannot be played twice in the same light (by which I mean enjoying the game with a different experience from it). When people tell you how great the game is you can't create a different conversation about what was so good since everyone knows the same answer.

The people who love Paper Mario I can't say otherwise as I do like the series but to me once I've played it I'm done with it (until the next one comes)

Perfect Dark
Mario Kart 64
Donkey Kong 64
Majora's Mask
Starcraft 64

Mario Tennis
Pokémon Stadium

Underrated:

Shadowgate 64
Fighter's Destiny
Hybrid Heaven
Castlevania (both of 'em)
