(No Longer A) Rumour: House Of The Dead Wii?

Well according to Spong (we know, we know!) SEGA's classic arcade shooter "House Of The Dead" will be heading to the Wii.

According to Spong "House Of The Dead 2 & 3 Return" will be a Wii Zapper compatible game containing both House Of The Dead 2 and 3. Sources suggest the US can expect this game spring next year should the claims turn out to be true.

The information of the game has leaked from US video game rental service GameFly who supposedly accidentally placed a press release from SEGA's PR division on their site.

The press statement said:

In THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2&3 RETURN, players will be able to play both versions of the game, battling the relentless attack of bloodthirsty zombies with steady aim and a quick trigger finger. Utilising the innovative new Wii Zapper or the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, players will experience branching storylines with over six game modes including Arcade Mode and Time Attack modes that will test their shooting skills. THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2&3 RETURN features an engaging single-player campaign, plus a co-op multiplayer mode for up to two players for countless hours of zombie shooting action.

“THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD franchise has been revamped for today’s gamer looking for fast-paced shooting action on the Wii” commented Gary Knight, Marketing Director of SEGA Europe. “Utilising the new Wii Zapper, the player can get the renowned light gun experience in their own home.”

THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD is famous for its heart-pounding pace and the great visual detail of the vast armies of unique enemies. Blasting through legions of grotesque zombies and mutated monsters, players eventually face-off against colossal boss creatures that will test the accuracy and skill of every Wii gamer.

THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2&3 RETURN will be available for the Wii home video game system from Nintendo in spring 2008.

To be fair, while we can't give the official word on this game just yet we were expecting some kind of House Of The Dead title to take advantage of the newly developed Wii Zapper so it's only a matter of time before an official announcement.

Here's hoping.

UPDATE - 19:04

Gary Knight, Marketing Director of SEGA Europe, has since confirmed that this game will indeed be heading to the Wii.

"The House of the Dead franchise has been revamped for today’s gamer looking for fast-paced shooting action on the Wii. Utilising the new Wii Zapper, the player can get the renowned light gun experience in their own home."

Shine get!

The only problem with this game is that it looks like poop. No graphical overhauls or anything.

How's that for an official screenshot?

Looks a bit crap, graphics-wise anyway. Why can't everyone put the same graphical effort into Wii games as Miyamoto and his team did...

House of the Dead is an old series, im pretty sure were up to 5 or 6 now, so 2 and 3 would look pretty bad. being arcade games they were also relatively short, im actually surprised they could fit two games on one disc though.

if this sells well we'll probably see the newer ones on the Wii, which im looking forward to. i cant resist shooting Zombies,... its like a guilty pleasure.

People don't want any more ports of older games onto the Wii it seems. People want a graphically overhauled expierience at the least and this game doesn't give that. If you saw a commercial for this game and didn't know what the House of the Dead franchise was and you saw those graphics, would you purchase it? Probably not.

I don't give a rats ass about a graphical overhaul, I just want the game. Day one buy for me.

That makes one person. I just don't see how developers expect the average consumer to get into this. Spoiler: They won't. It is destined for the bargain bin where it may make a few sales out of consumer curiosty.

House of the Dead 2 is still the best onrails shooter ever made. Worth playing for the soundtrack alone. And the voice acting is so hilariously bad it rivals Resident Evil 1.

Seeing as the game's budget price this is a day one purchase.

$30 is well worth it to me. Couple of games, some buddies, and a few beers. That spells some good times to me.
