Post The Conduit has a story

High Voltage has been mentioning some kind of deep conspiracy in its trailers for The Conduit, which suggests that there's more going on here than just some soldier or secret agent or whoever shooting at guys in bad-guy uniforms. So what is The Conduit about? IGN spoke to High Voltage's Eric Nofsinger and Josh Olson, and found that the concept is basically "all kinds of horrible stuff is happening."

Nofsinger sets up some of the backstory: "In D.C. specifically, there's a virus, linked to the contaminated water supply, that's been attacking people's immune systems. Missing persons reports have increased dramatically. Domestic terrorist attacks - including an attack on the Washington monument - have caused rioting and panic. Martial law has been declared." How do you shoot at a virus? Oh, and then there's a full-scale alien invasion.

As Agent Ford, a Secret Service agent recruited by an even more secret organization called The Trust, you are called in to deal with all of that. Guided by your Trust contact, "John Adams," Ford must help defend Washington D.C. from the aliens while also dealing with a possible rogue Trust agent.

We've also got new screens courtesy Sega Europe. We trust you will enjoy them.

This sounds great. Now if only the gameplay can live up to the hype. Looks fantastic too, can't wait to see the finished product.

Hmm, the story sounds about as original as the gameplay...

I really hope this game turns out good. The Wii seriously needs some more good FPSs. Don't let me down, HVS!

the screen shot shown above is the best ive seen this game look.

ill most likely get this game regardless of the SciFi channel B-movie plot.

on a side note. i think the most compelling story ive ever seen in a shooter belongs to Bioshock, and ive only played the Demo

The story only gets better. Well, until the very end when you experience one of the least satisfying endings ever.

Edit: Also, that screenshot is the best looking one I've seen of the game. I guess not having the super generic, colorful aliens around makes it look that much better.

Edit 2: The front two soldiers in the same pose are annoying though.

I guess I'll just stop playing it now to save myself from one of the least satisfying endings ever. Although I doubt that it's as bad as you're saying it is. I just beat Gears 2 with a friend and we both thought it was one the most anti climatic disappointing endings ever (the game still rocks though).

Back on topic, I'm hoping The Conduit makes me want to play my Wii again. Obviously the game play will be the most important but if the online friend codes are not better then other Wii games then I doubt I'll buy it.

Am I the only one who thinks the aliens just don't look very good at all?

I'm open to different kinds of aliens no matter how oddly designed they are. I mean, just because they don't look like the aliens that stuck the probe in my poop chute, doesn't mean that I have a right to discriminate against them.

I heard that the main side effect of alien abduction and probing is the victim's degrading ability to form coherent sentences.
