Default KawaiiReview:Rhapsody a Musical Adventure

If you ever wanted a muscial RPG then this review is for you .
Overview
In this game country girl Cornet has the abality to talk to puppets but is also in love with the prince of Marl kingdom .
But when Cornet finally gets a chance to dance with him Marjolly gets there kidnaps him for herself .
So of corse its up to our lovestruck puppet talking heroin to save the prince .

Gameplay
What im discribing here is a beginners RPG here so please forgive it the gameplay is simple

The gameplay is a basic RPG disigned for beginners nothing orignal just a basic turn bassed battles but done in a way to be more fun than Super Mario RPG .
there are dougeons to explore everything to be pretty simple .

Songs & Audio
This game has 10 songs all in Japanese while the orignal Playstation version had both English & Japanese but due to the Game Card limited capacity Nippon Ichi decided to remove the English songs but even then theres a hint of compresion still can be heard but not to bad to ruin the enjoyment as the songs are still nice to listen to all 10 of them.

Graphics & Charcter design
While the prerenderd doungeon & forest designs are lust just unfortunately they are repetive .
Meanwhile the characters nice including a whole bunch of cute monstes like adorable multi taled foxes to smiling jellys & cute mushrooms while the humans are nicely designed but the style is different to other Nippon Ichi titles like Disgaea where it has a more cutsie anime design* wonders how Marjolly going to look in Disgaea DS*
Plus the puppets are nice some cute & others not quite but they are all nice still.

Pro's & Cons
Pro's
Nice Charctor design
Nice songs
Simple gameplay for beginners
Short gameplay so you can fit more games in (12 hours approx).
And it has cute cats .

Cons
Simple gameplay may put some off
Short Gameplay may put off people who has extra hours in there day .
Simple gameplay may put some veteran gamers off .
Makes cats out to be the bad guys .

Overall this is a nice simple game that mostprobably goes under the rader for some people .

I think I'd prefer the PSX version (which is an SRPG). Like the fact that it's short, though.

Looks too fruity for my tastes...

I'm sorry if this comes off too rude, but: How do you get invited to Nintendo press events if this is your way of reviewing games? After reading your post I know next to nothing about the game and my eyes hurt from the loads of typos (I apologize in case you suffer drom dyslexia).

As a review, I would recommend a level of recommendation. The ratings system of X out of 10 could work but I think what works best for short reviews is a simple "Highly recommended" "Recommended" and "Not Recommended" system. I'm guessing you would say "Recommended"? (not a must-buy but maybe buy at a discount?)

This is a fan review not an official media review .
I wrote this review because i enjoyed it & i wanted to share my thoughts on it .
If you really want to be more readable you could ask Shortay to edit my post to be more readable as if you look around you might find some of my posts say at the bottom last edited by Shortay .

Well, that's not Shortay's job... That's actually your responsibility.
So give the poor guy a break and check out the Grammar Girl's podcast. I think it'll help you out a lot.

Nah, that's way too cliche.

I like the Buy It, Rent It, or **** It rating scale (which is basically the same thing, but is better at differentiating than the Highly Recommended and Recommended....And I know this wouldn't work for DLC, but you could probably replace Rent It with Try It or something).

I'm flattered, but I don't even know where I'd start with that editing that 'review'.

Let's cut the guy a break here. He's not trying to publish this or anything, he's just offering up a quick & sloppy set of impressions on a game he played. I do this all the time in the WiiWare Ratings thread and the Wii Impressions/Mini-Reviews thread (albeit with better spelling & grammar, but still loose and casual and certainly not in a proper review format). I for one welcome information from forum members on games I might not be sure about.

give you any real information on the game? There are so many different ways to design turnbased battles. What are they like here? What makes 'em better than those in Super Mario RPG?

I agree with getting users experiences on games that I would be on the fence about, like Joyo said, but damn kawaii.....punctuation would do wonders...i can deal with typos here and there, but trying to discern where each statement starts and ends is a chore...but you do make reading challenging, so I can't fault you for that!

Mabye they don't take forever, or don't have a bad, unfitting battle theme, or maybe they just aren't ugly?

Although leaving a review with more questions than answers is probably a bad sign in most cases.

There was.

Kawaii may be a horrible, horrible writer, but that doesn't mean we have to jump all over him whenever he writes anything in the forums. That would be an Ouenben-like knee-jerk overreaction. This is not a descriptive feature review published in a magazine. Don't look for precise mechanical details. It was impressions, and I got some impressions from it:

Impression: Generic JRPG setup. Boring.

Impression: Easy game with turn-based battle system possibly more interesting/entertaining than shared dislike.

Lots of important info in this paragraph!

Impressions: Lame art style.

His conclusion also mentions that the game is short (~12 hours).

In the context of a short, impressions-style mini-review and the ability of good readers to pull information out of something even if it's poorly written, we're left with things boiled down to this:

"A couple idiots are in love, one gets kidnapped, one has to rescue. Generic JRPG setup. Short (~12 hour) RPG for beginners. Easy game with turn-based battle system possibly more interesting / entertaining than SMRPG if you didn't like that one. Not much variety in poorly compressed / low quality Japanese-only music. Lots of emphasis on cuteness and anime. Environments are repetitive."

That's the kind of snarky mini-review I would post. It's also enough to tell me to stay far away from this game.

So yeah, his writing may be terrible, but that doesn't mean it's information-free. I welcome all members here to post impressions of games they've just played or thought might be interesting to the rest of us. You don't have to be a pro! And don't be intimidated if you know your writing isn't the best. This is a casual social forum where we share information. I trash NintendoLaff because it's run by a bunch of illiterate bloggers who think they're pros. Context. I'm not about to trash folks here for the same reasons.

Hmm...sounds good but how should it be done? Should we all make our own threads for each game like this? Or maybe a thread similar to the Wii Game Recommendations & Mini-Reviews thread be made for the DS?

That wouldn't be a bad idea. Go ahead and make one of those catch-all threads if you like to.
