| I was just thinking about this game a few minutes ago and I'm dying to play it again! It was one of my favourites in the N64 days but I never actually got round to completing it and to do so on the VC would be oh so sweet The thing I enjoyed most about was playing as all of the 5 kongs, their weapons and the animals they transformed into, and even though many people thought it was too much of a collect em-up, I really liked the game. Any others looking forward to the release (if and when it happens)? |

| But it was a RARE game... I hope the licensing issues don't affect it's release, though DKC1/2 should mean it will arrive. |

| Nah, Licencing should be no problem. Nintendo owns DK so they have the right to put any DK game on the VC reguardless of who made it. Wonder if arcade DK and Jetpac will still be in it... o.o |

| Monty Mole | Oh, Yeah, I forgot that it was RARE, I was thinking it was Nintendo |

| DK 64 was one of the most overrated N64 games...I love Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, CBFD and DKC1-3, but DK 64 was just average at best in my opinion. |

| If anything, they'll cut out Jetpac. They'd have no reason to cut out the original arcade DK. |

| Theres only one reason they d take DK out and thats the NES DK on the VC. But yeah, its unlikely they ll take it out. Would mean we d get the almighty missing level. XD |

| Lakitu | Why would they cut out the original Donkey Kong when it's already on the virtual console? |

| The original Arcade DK - It's not on the VC! The VC has the NES version (worse graphics, minus one level). So if Nintendo's nice, they keep it in DK64, because it was a fun and cool in-game-element and we want the full and original arcade DK!! And yes, Jetpac too! It would suck, if these two arcade orginals will get kicked from the VC version of DK64. Anyway, I have this game on N64, and if gaming times get calmer I'm gonna play it again. (Beaten it only once! With all 5 Kongs 100%) I think it was a very good platformer, although I was disappointed by the music. Not, that it's bad, but it's not the Donkey Kong Country series anymore - It's Donkey Kong 64 (it sounded much like Banjo-Kazooie's music at first but eventually it had his tunes that could grow on you). Anyway, it's a 3D-adventure/jump'n'run with tons of collectibles. I loved it, because there was so much to do. It will keep you busy for weeks of intensive ape gaming if you want to get the best ending and every collectible. Ah yes, graphically it's one of the best N64 games if the enemies wouldn't fade in pretty late. |

| Would this game be a bit big in size? It was pretty lengthy and it needed the Expension Pak to work... |

| I personally found DK64 to be one of the biggest disappointments on the N64. The game looked great and it had a fantastic soundtrack (like most Rare games), but I couldn't get pass the fact that the whole game seemed like one huge collect-a-thon. "Go find bananas for each character, now go find color coded blueprints for each character, okay, now go and find the golden bananas that only certain characters can get. Got that? Good. Wait! You missed a blueprint for Tiny Kong way back at the top of that huge mountain! Get up there! And you're lacking in the bananas for Chunky. Maybe you should back track." Ugh. I hated DK64. I loved the other Rare N64 games like Banjo-Kazooie and Conker's Bad Fur Day. But DK64? I was not feeling that one. Although, DK64 did give us Lanky Kong, one of the most badass Donkey Kong characters in a long time. |

Anyway, you really can't get angry at an E rated game being accessible to 5 year old kids, can you? Would be nice if those games had a bit more challenge, sure (though some of those jumping challenges in Sunshine were brutal). Oh well, The Times They Are A-Changin'. Edit: Welcome to the forums, avoid digging up too many ancient threads. Have fun.

| Amazing Flying Hammer Brother | The expansion pak was required for Majoras Mask as well, so I don't see it not being able to work |

| You're responding to a comment from February. Pretty sure MM was not on VC then, considering it came out last monday.

If I'd turn your question around, then that would mean that every complex game would have to include any of that. | |

In DK64, all the collectables simply represented an excuse to explore the wonderful and interesting environments, and to interact with the colorful characters, both good and evil, all the while having the bonus effect of continuing your progress in-game, giving you access to new environments to explore, etc. And to be quite honest that still stands for me...to a point. The game is still the most charming Rare game I've ever played(...in fact, it's the only charming Rare game I've ever played), and such charm eases the inconvenient gameplay naunces that is synonymous with the "collect-a-thon" genre. To a point. As much as I hate to admit it, no amount of charm will ever be able to truely make up for the fact that some things are absolute *****es to collect. If I EVER find myself in an instance where I'm stuck running 50 ****ing laps around trying to find some arbitrary collectable I conveniently "missed" the first time around, and having been forced to backtrack in order to get whatever the hell it is I need to get, I am going to ****ing scream! Asside from that little quibble, DK64 stands as one of the few collect-a-thons I actually liked, as well one of the few Rare games I've ever considered truely "Good". And while we're more-or-less on the subject, what exactly was it that you liked about, oh...Banjo Kazooie? Afterall, it's a collect-a-thon as well(moreso than DK64, IMO), and yet you seem to have absolutely no problem with it.

| Amazing Flying Hammer Brother | Am I missing something? Is there a problem with collect-a-thon games? I like those type of games, so was wondering why they are bad |

| I think collecting stuff and seeing the status screen gets perfected to 100% is always a comfortable thing (if you're a human being). You know it's in our genes since million of years. We are hunters & collectors. No, there was something else that has disturbed me when playing Donkey Kong 64. And it's quite obvious. I expected a Donkey Kong Country 64, but I got a Banjo-Threeie. Ah, well. It was good enough. And people who haven't played Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie wouldn't recognise the similiarities in gameplay, graphics and music and can fully enjoy the game as it's the only true 3D-Donkey Kong. Now that time passed by, 10 years later, I'd love to play another big collect-a-thon 3D-platformer, but still DK64 is the biggest. |
