Default Paper Mario Discussion Thread

13th July, and we now have Paper Mario on the European VC. Yay!

I've been waiting ages to play this game as I couldn't afford many games back in the day, and was worried I'd have to wait at least another month to do so but the chance has come early

Well, Nintendo Power does have it in their July issue so my guess it'll come out in July and if it doesn't probably August.

I think I've said this before, but I've never played PM either (or any of the later N64 games: moved on to the DC by then), so I'm looking forward to this. I'll wait for this to be released on the VC and then get The Thousand Year Door afterwards, as I've heard great things about that too.

I'm sure this'll be out before too long; Nintendo would almost be shooting themselves in the foot if they released another N64 game the amount of hype and expectation this has brought on. Another Zelda II fiasco and the Americans will be howling for blood

You'll be glad you bought it when you play PM for the first time.

And no, I won't howl for blood since Paper Mario MUST be coming to the VC around the same time for Japan, Europe, North America, AND Australia. Why? It is just too good for anyone to put off for a week.

Even better than ALTTP!

I love this game

Christmas 2001 was very special thanks to it! And I've only gone and bought it again!

Loving it all again though, memories flooding back Has anyone noticed the spinning N64 logo when you start the game up, or when you go back to the game from the home menu? Strange, seems it has to keep loading the game up. Must be pretty tricky to emulate.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I thought it had reset the game at first XD

Well I'm off to bed now, I'll play it properly tomorrow!

I've just beaten the game's first 'boss' (Unless you count one or two earlier boss-ish enemies), so I'll leave it for the night.

Love this game, love it ^_^

Dude, Paper Mario and Conker are my two favorite N64 games. They came out a month apart, I remember the day in February when I got Paper Mario, and then getting Conker's BFD in March. I loved those days.

You gotta play Bad Fur Day, dude.

Just got this and love it, its the first time ever playing it for me you see

I also got Air zonk and that is fantastic also.
I now have 4500 sitting there, waiting to be spent, hopefully on SF2 turbo when that is released.

Back to PM, i have one question, is it a long game?

For you Jonny (And anyone else wondering), it should take around 25 hours on your first go, it did for me back in the day

It's definitely not as long as The Thousand Year Door on Gamecube, but it's an excellent length for a Virtual Console game, especially if you try to collect a lot of badges/star pieces/etc.

@ iNma: You ought to get a second hand copy of Conker, Live and Reloaded for the original Xbox, Conkers bad fur day was a great game but updated into those graphics will make it still seem veeeeeeeeeery enjoyable today.

Paper Mario: Wow, just wow... I downloaded this game the moment I heard it was out and bloody heck its brilliant, I missed something back then and now I get the chance to see what all the fuss was about. I need to get a second hand copy of the one on GC as I played it when I was really damn tired so I couldn't get into it but I like its humour, its style and pretty much everything. Best game on VC? pff, without a shadow of a doubt.

I have played The Thousand Year Door and must say I was not that impressed by the game not a bad game by any means but one I found to be very overrated 7.5/10.

Have not played the original.

It really is quite amazing how much people haven't played Paper Mario before. You're missing out on one of the greatest games for the N64 (If you ask me it's THE greatest game though), download it now if you haven't yet. Then when you beat it, hunt down The Thousand-Year Door if you don't have that either.

I'm probably gonna buy Paper Mario as I never got round to playing it on the N64, but is it really as inventive and all round good fun as Super Mario 64?

Dude, hell no. Bad Fur Day kicks Live and Reloaded's ass. I just can't explain it, you need to play the N64 one to experience it fully. The Xbox port took away all of the original's charm. Imagine playing Banjo-Kazooie for the first time on Xbox, it would suck.

I'm loving Paper Mario. It's funny though, having played Thousand Year Door (which is excellent) I think I can remember references in TYD to Paper Mario, but I might be making this up. I def recomend to anyone if they downloaded and are enjoying PM, get TYD in straight after you've finished!

I suggest you take a look at the review and the user ratings. All 14 so far are 5 stars.

I just managed to get the 1st star spirit back... that boss was quite funny!

I've been playing the game using a wavebird controller, is that likely to cause any problems later? Its just that I've noticed the "Z" button is mapped to the pad's "L" button for some reason....

It's the same with the Classic Controller. "Z" button on the N64 is mapped to the "L" button on the Classic Controller.

Just got the second Star Sprite!

No, you have to press A just as they strike. That way you will take no damage or less damage than normal.
