| Amazing Flying Hammer Brother | Well the N64 one is a lot better, probably the best in the series.

| I'm going to have to disagree with Mendez here, the N64 version is pretty awful, and hasn't aged particularly well either. The handling is loose when it should be direct, there is absolutely no incentive to play it single player, the 2D sprites on 3D backgrounds are dated beyond belief, the GP tracks are not very well designed, and to cap it off, the game has so many glitches it could be considered broken; it's simply the low-point of the series. If none of the things above get to you, the rubberband AI will the 100th time you're half a lap ahead only to have the computer magically drive past you without using an item. The perennial complaint with the GC version was that it brought little new to the series beyond a questionable two-character dynamic, but in terms of the fundamentals like handling, item balance and handicapping, it's there or thereabouts. It's just as fun to play multiplayer as MK64 (no pangs of nostalgia required), much newer and prettier, and should cost not much more than MK64 if you buy it online or 2nd hand. No contest, as far as I'm concerned. |

| Lakitu | In it's day I would have said OMFG N64 one!1!!. However, as iNma said; It hasn't aged well one bit, it looks blurry as hell and more importantly the wep's are inferior to the GC version. Just get a second hand version of DD and you will not be disappointed.

| Casual gamer since 1978 | Can't see the tech needed in N64...DD is of course different from 16bits classics, but tracks are really nice (NOT about of graphics) and even if it's less technical than SNES and GBA MKs it still gives yyou some satisfaction getting the right way to pass thru a series of corners. Really, N64 tracks are very cheap, too large and well, I repeat it: there are no technical driving skills needed as there are in every other episode of the series. My ranks: DS GBA SNES GCN

| Justin, buddy, I think ADHD is the most overdiagnosed affliction in the Western world at the moment, and I have yet to prescribe Ritalin to anyone, ever, but in your case I would make an exception |

Blog Entries: 9 | Mario Kart DS definitely blows both out of the water. I'm still a bit peeved though that the battle arenas are not available for Wi-Fi play. =/

| At the time of its initial release, I considered MK64 better than SMK (through £39.99 rose tinted specs), but 20/20 hindsight changes that. Sure SMK has aged condiderably (nigh on impossible to just jump back into -unlike n64 counterpart) but still has that racy feeling (again unlike n64 counterpart). The GBA mariokart is similar to SMK but has now been overshadowed by the awesome DS version ( try 8 players in a room racing, unbeatable) which has retro tracks from all the other versions. MKDD is playably, graphically and overall more substantial than MK64. Yes the player switch thing can seem to be superfluous at times but it cant be all bad if the concept was "borrowed" by kart racing competitor Crash. The GC version retains all the freneticity of SMK with the 3dness of MK64 so no contest - apart from MKDD v MKDS?????

| Lakitu | The 2d pixels on 3d tracks didnt look good at all in MK64. I still enjoyed it alot tho. But now I've played the DS version, 64 has been rendered unplayable. I keep attempting that DS skid move on the 64 one because my minds been set to it. |

| MKSC > MKDD > MKDS > SMK > MK64 Mario Kart 64 is my least favourite, however good it was at the time it's too slow now, same with Super Mario Kart. I really like Double Dash, but all-time best has to be Super Circuit on GBA. |

| in Shinobi World | It's the GBA Mario Kart for me, just edging out the wonderful original. MK64 is by far my least favourite of the series.

| Lakitu | I'd probably have to say that DS is the best, but Mario Kart 64 comes up in a very close second. Double Dash is fun, and is definitely worth getting, but you might want to wait on it. Probably get it used too for a cheaper price.

| I've had alot of fun playing MK64 on VC. When I obtained a copy of DD I really didn't like it at first - too hard and too claustraphobic. Now I think its the better game except for possibly the most important factor - battle mode!!! What is the deal with the tiny battle arenas in DD ?! They suck balls big time. The battle arenas in 64 were awesome and I wish they had just copied those across. |

| Amazing Flying Hammer Brother | I hate all the abuse one of my favourite childhood games is getting, and the fact everyone is calling it the worst in the series MK-64> MK-DS> MK-DD> MK-SS I've never played the original, but from what I've seen of it, I don't think I'd put it anywhere above 3rd out of the 5 upon playing it. MK:64 is just the perfect Mario Kart game in my opinion, and no other one could beat it, or even come close to it.

| Ugh. Said it before, will say it again, MK64 is the one abhorrent entry in the series, the cookie-cutter sequel to end all cookie-cutter sequels, and floaty enough in the handling department to classify more as a rally game than a karting one. The single-player game is useless and not worth playing through unless you're a stickler for rubber-band AIs and a total lack of reward other than simply having "done it". Multiplayer is ok but near-ruined by the lacklustre handling. Though I've downloaded it, I did so more out of obligation than preference. What people forget is that the direct response handling - arguably more appropriate given that the karting moniker - of later sequels like DD made the games more enjoyable. MK64 had floaty handling simply to prove that the N64 could do floaty handling, not out of any practical concern for gameplay quality. And as rushed as Diddy Kong Racing was, and as pointlessly repetitive it got in the later stages, it did at least get the handling totally spot-on, and as such was a superior game even before the added vehicles were taken into account. Happily, the GBA version brought the series back on track, and the sequels have made nothing but improvements (even if you didn't like the two-driver mechanic of DD, its handling, course design and single-player mode were utterly superior), until we've now reached the undisputed zenith of the series in MK Rant over. Nothing to see here.
