Default Miyamoto on why he could've created Halo.

http://wii.ign.com/articles/786/786082p1.html

I found this in another forum I visit and if I hadn't gotten there so late. I'd have said this very same thing.

The guy quoted this.

Quote:
Miyamoto believes the audience for an epic, hardcore adventure game is shrinking, which could mean we can expect more casual games from Nintendo.
He then said exactly what I was thinking.

Quote:
The audience for epic hardcore adventure games hasn't been shrinking- they've just been buying other systems...
Because this is exactly how I feel. I'm sick of Ninty doing all this casual gamers games crap. All of these pathetic games that last 2 hours yet still cost full whack. It's a bloody joke IMO.

WarioWare Smooth Moves was only £5 (about $7) cheaper than Zelda TP. And which would you say is more value for money? (Don't get me wrong, I love WarioWare games, but this one was nothing compared to touched and the GBA one. Has 2 different names and I always forget both of them, lol).

£5 cheaper, and what would you say? That TP isn't a good game so it doesn't matter that it lasts long? I mean yes, it's no OOT. But it's still a pretty good game IMO.

Ninty have long been a fan of the "quality of quantity". Well i've long been a fan of "quantity and quality". Hence why I have a 360. So many games, so many hard challenging long games that cost the same and deserve to have £40 spent on them.

It's also why I buy as many VC games. Because 9-10 times i'm getting quality. And if you don't think 47 VC games is quantity, then wow

My problem with Nintendo games is that I have a lot of fun in the beginning and then about half way through I get bored and stop playing. Way too shallow game play.

For example I just bought Pokemon Diamond. Had fun for about the first ten hours and then my enthusiasm waned as I realized that the next thirty hours or so will be the same exact thing over and over.

I still prefer my Xbox 360 and it's games to anything that Nintendo has at the moment. And of course there is a little no game called Halo 3 coming out this Fall.

It will be at that time that my DS and Wii will start to feel neglected because I'm going to spend all my time playing Halo 3, Bioshock, Mass Effect, GTA, Lost Planet, Blue Dragon and so on.

If only nintendo games weren't so "fun" and had some meat to them. It's like they haven't realized that most of their gamers are adults and not kids.

Anyway thats my rant for today. I still love Nintendo, but unfortunately for them I prefer my serious gaming to the repetitive casual gaming.

Couldn't agree more. The games I've played that have any sort of depth have been 3rd party or VC, with the notable exception Zelda TP.

Yep.

They used to satify both fun and depth. Now it's just shallow meaningless fun.

It's like having a one night stand

i have to say my views on this type of thing have changed wildly in recent years, in years gone by, much of my spare time was spent playing video games, but now with 2 children under 3 and a wife to keep happy my gaming time is half an hour here and there to be snatched! with this in mind i have really enjoyed games like excite truck which in all honesty i would have dismissed as throw away and too casual a few years back, in contrast i have oblivion on the 360 which remains virtually unplayed simply becasue i dont have the time to invest to really get going with it and so end up not starting at all, must admit though that gears of war co - operative provided many a nights entertainment for me and the wife.

Nintendo is stubborn. They want to be innovative, and nothing more. Too proud to even borrow ideas off of the other developers. It's stupid. Imagine how much Nintendo would kick ass if they had innovation and things like epic online functionality?

And a some more third party support that made wii games would be nice instead of 360 games with a little wiimote functionality.

Well i'd like to let you know that you're all traitors

Sorry, some idiot on another site is calling me a traitor for owning all 3 consoles and liking the 360 and PS3 more than the Wii. He's now just called me a PS3 Fanboy when the 360 is actually my favourite console and he says that the PS3 has no good games which proves that i'm a biased Fanboy. Oblivion is on the PS3, last time I checked that won GOTY. Yet it sucks and isn't a good game and i'm biased for liking it.

I then pointed out to him that a Fanboy is someone who badmouths the other consoles without having played on them or knowing anything at all about them. Like he'd just done.

I swear down, this guy is so funny. It's brillaint when you're debating with someone who's so much of an idiot that they actually win the argument for you.

Sorry, kinda rambled on there.

Demon212 - I've just phoned the police to confess. They're on their way. I may have dropped you in it a bit as well.

Is treachery still punishable by death?

Back on topic - more third party support, and such like.

I would also like to add that I personally do no believe that Miyamoto is capable of making a game like Halo. I think that is his ego doing the talking.

Remember how he slammed Rare and Donkey Kong Country for it's at the time revolutionary graphics saying "Donkey Kong Country proves that players will put up with mediocre gameplay as long as the art is good."

I'm making this assumption based off of things he said in the past about gaming, mainly the appeal to all audiences shallow kind of game play. He also said (please don't ask me for direct quotes because this was a couple of years ago so take it for what you will) that -- oh wait found a site. Here is the linky: http://www.clubskill.com/?view=article&article=1127.

Quotey: (In an interview with CNN, Miyamoto has slammed modern games: "There's not a lot I want to play now. A lot of the games out there are just too long.

"Of course, there are games, such as Halo or Grand Theft Auto, that are big and expansive. But if you're not interested in spending that time with them, you're not going to play," he commented.

"Rather than thinking we have a new console, let's make epic games, I want [developers] to make more unique products.")

So my point is that he could never make a game like Halo because he simply does not like long, serious, graphic intensive games period.

Don't get me wrong. I have a lot of respect for the guy because he is the father of Mario and Zelda and also Metroid I believe. But he seems to think that He tells the gamers what they want instead of the other way around. He just isn't in touch with his audience.
