When ever I use Lucia I think she's a man. You'll see her fighting and look at her face and arms, and they look so man like!

Stefan and Edward are both equally cool, but Edward has a spot in my heart. Just because he was a rookie, that got stuck in two hopless wars, but just kept fighting and became invincible.

He takes alot of baby sitting to get good though. He'll probably suck once I try Hard mode.

I love Lucia, even though she sucks. She's going to have a prominent role in my "Ike & His Ladies" playthrough this year.

Sucks might be a little strong of a word, it's her availability that kills her, but if you want to feed her kills she's quite good, she has good magic so Imbue is good on her, she also has the best support affinity.

In a non-specialty playthrough, extremely low availability = sucks. In a normal playthrough, having to feed tons of kills and bonus XP to make someone good is too much of a detriment, especially on higher difficulty levels.

Part of the reason I'm doing a hilarious all-ladies playthrough is to make up for the fact that I couldn't use Lucia in my real game.

What about Sothe and Kurth are they ladies?

They're both forced in the Endgame, and Sothe is forced in all Daein chapters.

The upside to this rediculous quest is that Nephenee ought to be even more hardcore this time around.

Obviously I mean other than forced characters.

Besides, what if I kill them? Sothe will be hard to kill off early in the game... but I can tuck him into a corner somewhere.

Despite having been a Nintendo fan for nearly two decades now, the closest I've ever come to playing a Fire Emblem game was beating the crap out of Mewtwo with either Roy or Marth in SSBM. Any recommendations on which FE episode I should pick as a personal entry to the series?

The first Western-released GBA one is generally solid and well-regarded, but it's also quite easy and generic. Still, it's a viable starting point if you're interested in "testing out" the series.

Either the GCN Path of Radiance or the Wii Radiant Dawn are also good starting points. They're not as representative of the "old-school" series as a whole simply because they're 3D, but they offer more gameplay depth and a better plot. They are directly connected stories, so if you care about continuity or spoilers it's best to start with the GCN game. If you just want to play one, I'd say the Wii game is technically the better game (and it is possible to follow along without knowing what happens in the GCN game).

Shadow Dragon is also another viable starting point simply because it's the newest entry in the series and because it's a remake of the original first game in the series. So you get some FE history along with some solid current-gen DS gameplay.

Phew, doesn't make my decision all that easy. ^^
Thanks for the input, I think I'll try out the first one on GBA as starting out on a simpler episode should be better than delving right into one of the more complex ones and going down in terms of complexity from there on if I come to like the game system.

Edit: Woohoo, more than 1000 posts. 4 digits 4 the win.

Personally, the Wii one was the first I ever played. I loved it so much that I immediately went out and found the GCN one and played it as a prequel. Personally, again, I prefer them to the handheld ones. If I were making an unabashedly biased and selfish recommendation, it would be to start with the GCN one and then play the Wii one immediately after.

True, but she has good potential, so you don't care about efficiency it shouldn't really be a big deal to use who you like, and Lucia is never unable to hold her own, she'll just be a bit worse once she rejoins.

Of course playing normally she's one of the lesser useful characters.

I realize I'm only days away from playing Path of Radiance, so I was wondering, what difficulty should I play? I don't want it to be like Radiant Dawn where I spent 10 hours on easy, then decided it'd be best to try Normal. But I hear in Path of Radiance, the hard mode is like the normal mode in Radiant Dawn.

So should I go for hard? Unless it's like Radiant Dawn where hard mode needs to be unlocked, in which case my answer is very easy.

I hear PoR isn't that hard on HM so just try that out, you don't have to unlock it either.

Play on Normal. If you play on Easy or Hard, you won't be able to import your data into Radiant Dawn afterwards.

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance

I got this one a few days ago, thanks to Refa. So far it's pretty good, but there's some pretty noticible down grades from Radiant Dawn. But that's fine, it's nice to know that the series actually improved. At first I didn't know what to think. The games definetly start different. In Radiant Dawn, the mood is set automatically to sad and stressfull. You're basically set in what looks like a hopless battle. Well basically, that's exactly what Radiant Dawn is, being thrown into hopless wars, and still coming out on top. But in Path of Radiance, it starts all colorfull and happy. You're Ike trying to live up to the legacy of yor father. Of course, the story does pick up more into the sad sense.

I really wish I played this game first. I mean seeing all of these characters so young, it's just so weird. I could only imagine what my reaction would be if I played this first, then moved on to see the characters in Radiant Dawn. Such as when I saw the Black Knight enter in the castle Ike was in, I just went insain. I knew why he was staring at Greil, and who he was. It would have been so much better if I played this first, then awed in wonder on how Warning: Spoiler Below.
the Black Knight comes out of nowhere to save Michiah.

Hah, well whatever, it's still nice to play this game, even if I do know what happens. Can't wait to beat it and see if this was better, or if Radiant Dawn was better.

So my good mans and FE fans, in the latest issue of Nintendo Dream in Japan we have some very miniature hints about a new FE game to be announced next month:

So are they going to announce a new game being developed, or are they just going to include a photo spread of Lucia being cute?

I beat Path of Radiance of the other. It too was a great game, but it wasn't quite as good as Radiant Dawn.

I started my third playthrough on Radiant Dawn the other day, and this time I'm using the clear data from Path of Radiance, I'm playing on a Radiant Dawn clear file, and I am playing on hard.

I'm also going to try and beat the game with "honour." This is where I don't reset the game when one of my characters die. Has anyone else tried this, or does anyone play this way originally?

I've played that way, but not on hard mode. Have fun.

There's no honor among video game enthusiasts (read Castlevania Holy Water glitch) .

Hopefully a new FE comes out. A remake wouldn't be bad, a purely multiplayer game would be interesting (dunno how it'd work though), and a new game would be great.

What do you guys think of Radiant Dawn's story?

Radiant Dawn is my favorite Fire Emblem game, and probably my favorite game in general, but I've heard alot of trash about the game's story.

Personally, I thought it was great. The entire game was full of surprises, and y the time you get into Part 4, the story really just keeps getting better with every passing chapter.

Warning: Spoiler Below.
The Blood Pact, and the Tower of Guidence were the big sellers for me. I've always favored Daein over every other country, and the whole Blood Pact situation was just awesome in my eyes. They were screwed, either they get wiped out by the Laguz, or they get wiped out by Bengion. Also, the chapters where the armies fought each other were pretty cool. But the Tower of Guidence was every better. All of those memories really put more depth in the story, and of course the music added to the atmostspere very well.

I don't know what do you guys think? All I've heard is the the stroy is broken and just plain and simple, sucks.

Couldn't tell ya, Shoe, since I never pay attention to the stories in Fire Emblem games. They always seem kinda bland and uninteresting to me.

Fire Emblem on the NES was one of my favorites in the series, and I can't wait to play the DS remake! I'm actually kinda glad Digiki didn't like the DS one, since now I have a chance of getting his copy. (although I still wish he would give it a second chance)

And here's hoping for a remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden(my all-time favourite in the series)!^_^

RD has a good enough story, the cutscenes are awesome.

I wish Roy was in Brawl, there's just something about him that makes him feel so much more fun than Marth, pehaps it teh ph1re?

Roy is pretty cool. Not only do I wish he were in Brawl... I wish he were in some Fire Emblem game, too.

I like the Radiant Dawn story. I take it and Path of Radiance together as one game, though, and together they have an awesome story. I like Ike's development from clumsy loser to confident badass.

Conversation jacked from the turn-based RPG thread in the Wii section!

Some people who are new to the game/series were amazed at how deep this game is / how much there is to it! Well, it may seem like that at first, but the various systems in the game work together pretty fluidly, so it shouldn't be too confusing once you get into it.

The support system is one thing that people were wondering about. Basically, you can choose a basic support (like a buddy or something) for each character. This does two things. First, you can have support conversations, which go into a big archive. Second, you get to share an affinity bonus to your stats when the characters are within a certain range of each other. This second bit is the fun part.

Each character has an elemental affinity. Each affinity has an associated support bonus. Earth, for example, adds +7.5 to "Avoid". If you have two characters with Earth affinity as supports, they each get +15 to Avoid. If their support level is B, then they get +30 Avoid!!! +45 Avoid at support level A!

Support levels go up very gradually. What raises support level? Being buddies! Heal your buddy. Interact with your buddy (shove, rescue, carry). Hang around with your buddy (stand on adjacent tiles on the map, participate in battles together). Over time, your support level will increase.

Ah okay, that sure makes a lot more sense. The manual just described it being that they at least have to be three tiles away from each other. Of course I like changing around my party to my liking, so it wouldn't surprise me no one had that great a chemistry.

I definitely want to replay Radiant Dawn after playing Path of Radiance so that I understand more of the storyline. Also that I can get bonus stuff for loading a previous save from what I've read. Hopefully it won't interfere with the archives I've obtained from my last playthrough.

Just make sure you don't play Path of Radiance on Easy if you want to import its save data.

Default Gah!

Chapter 6 with three casualties (Nolan, Laura and um...archer bloke).

The battles were pretty long so I don't know whether I can face starting again to save them.

So far I've been introduced to a boss battle featuring a Ballista. I thought that this would be a good time to stop!

I've enjoyed it so far. It has been punishing at times but that's necessary to learn the tricks of different classes and terrains.

Meg is rubbish.

Leonardo! Also, can I assume you're playing on Normal?

Haha, I remember I tried to get Meg good the first time around. I gave her a sick custom sword and a few level ups. I put her up against a boss that had 1 HP left. She missed, and the boss one hit KO'd her! That was the last time I used Meg for fighting. She a good wall for other chapters though.

Meg actually lasted a pretty long time on my team. She killed everyone in her way and was a great wall.
I think I got rid of her in my party once the dragons starts joining on my team. So I ditched her and her pretty boy toy too.

As you might have heard (or not).

FE 12 ( Mystery of the Emblem: Hero of Light and Shadow) is on it's way to the DS. http://www.nintendo.co.jp/fe/
It's a remake of FE 3: Book 2.

Here some further info translated from the jp-page:

- Marth isn't the main Character, it's a char. you create yourself. Your design also affects dialogs. Theres also an added prolog to introduce your character.
- The WiFi Shop is back.
- The graphic style of FE11 will be kept.
- Gaiden-chapters are back too.
- 2 player WiFi
- 4 Difficulties
- 2 alternate modes. Classic & Casual (no perma-deaths)

It will be released on 15.July in Japan.

Lame; it doesn't even include the full content of Fire Emblem 3 because it would render their first DS offering obselete. Why can't they rerelease one of the other SNES Fire Emblems, which are supposedly amazing?

...Although I'm complaining, I'll probably buy it anyways just because it's Fire Emblem and no other real reason.

Would be OK if they weren't all about death-budgeting.
