| Can you elaborate on what you mean by this as I've played the game online hundreds of times and have never needed friend codes so I'm not sure what you are referring to.

I don't understand all the complaints about the friend codes either, in this game or in others. | |

| I only find friend codes bothersome when the game doesn't let you play with random people. |

What you describe does seem ridiculous. What benefit does Nintendo see in such an unweildy process for friends when you can connect to a random in seconds and why can't friend codes just be saved to the system like with other games?

| It isn't even archaic. It's something that is new and yet still more inconvenient than what's been around since the dawn of online gaming.

| Jumping Piranha Plant | Ok so ive played the DS version for a while now and I can say its nowhere near as good as the console versions. As far as graphics go they are pretty good for a DS game. The environments all look pretty good and the character models are still as animated as ever. As for sound all the music is Midi style remixes of the original tracks. But there not too bad. I enjoy some of them. the Can You Feel The Sunshine midi mix sounds pretty good. Its pretty energetic. Some of them dont sound that good at all though. Jet set radios "The Concept Of Love" is one example IMO. Strangely though all the All Star move themes are MP3 versions. As for gameplay you still have all the modes of the console games. Youve got all the grand prix's, all 24 tracks, all the characters (Minus Banjo, Avatars and Mii's), Mission Mode, Time Trial and Multiplayer. The grand prix's are identical to the console versions with the same names, cups and tracks. The tracks themselves are faithful representations of the console games for the most part. The Jet Set Radio tracks have been heavily altered though. No more insane jumps or underground car parks. The samba de amigo tracks now all take place on the streets. No trippy areas here. And the first monkey ball track is in reverse. Theres other minor changes on a few tracks like the removal of a few shortcuts or the removal of that monster in Sewer Scrapes but they're all still well designed tracks. Time trial still has ghosts to race against and mission mode still has the same goals (Drive through gates, collect rings etc) although the actual missions have been changed. The game also incorporates the achievements of the console games but as challenges. They remain the same as the console versions for the most part but a few have slight challenges. The multiplayer features both Offline and Online modes. I cant speak for the offline mode but the online mode was alot of fun. I had a few races against my friend (TechnoSuperguy on the forums) and also we did a few races with random people. But it was a little trouble finding a game. We mustve seen about 10 people online throughout the few hours we played. But when we did get in a game it was alot of fun. There was some odd glitches on my end though with the opponents going through walls and falling through the floor. But I believe this was due to my internet connection as Techno said everything was fine his end. In any case it was alot of fun and a good laugh. However! There is one thing that lets this game down. Thats the mechanics. I dont really know how to explain it but the game itself feels a bit slippery. You still have practically full control when drifting and can easily change direction mid drift. The game also feels like its been sped up aswell. It takes a while to get used too. Its weird but the control just doesnt feel as good as the console versions. Also for some strange reason pretty much all barriers have been removed in the majority of levels. Bridges no longer have an barriers so you have to carefully drift around the them in order to stay on and some areas like Lost palace now have no barriers meaning you can plummet straight into the ocean if your not careful. Im not complaining about it though since i rarely fall off but I find it a bit weird. Races are now reduced to 6 racers instead of 8 aswell. And online is reduced to 4 players. But it doesnt take away from the experience really. All the all star moves are pretty much the same as the console versions but for some odd reason the characters that come as a team are now reduced to one person. Like Jacky and Akira is now just Jacky. Mobo and Robo are now just one of them (I forget which) and the Chu Chu's are now just A Chu Chu. Ive not Used Jacky yet but apparently his all star move is now altered. Instead of being punched forward by Akira he now just spins around at top speed. All star moves also seem completely useless aswell. Ive never really caught up with one and ive never had a computer catch up to me with one either so they dont seem to be of any use. You get alot more out of the 3x Speed Boots than you do an all star move. Its also alot easier to unlock everything aswell. You earn Sega Miles very easily compared to the console versions and you'll have everything unlocked within a day pretty much. Overall its not a bad game. But its not the best the DS has to offer. And its hard to not compare the controls of this version to that of the console versions. They just feel too different and the DS version doesnt feel as good. But it is enjoyable and the online is alot of fun providing you can find a game.

| Lakitu | You know what SEGA should release? A new Sonic Drift. I enjoyed the Game Gear one and I want more of SEGA's answer to Mario Kart. And to continue the fantasy, Nintendo and SEGA should get together again to create Mario Kart vs Sonic Drift, and this time Ninty should publish it (unlike SEGA publishing all of the Mario x Sonic Olympics games).

| I think Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing very good and very beautiful. Of existing games with kart themed is the most beautiful (in the HD consoles, of course). Sumo Digital is a very good developer. They made the excellent Outrun 2 (Arcade/Xbox) and Outrun 2006: Coast to Coast (PS2/PSP/Xbox/PC)

| Lakitu | Well, the first one (which was only sold in Japan) was awful, but the second one was better. Looks like you haven't played the the original one.
