Default New 2D Sonic

Well many have waited and waited. Some had given up hope. But now. At long last. A brand new 2D console Sonic game is on its way. Completely built from the ground up a brand new 2D Sonic is coming in 2010 in full HD. This means its most likely a 360 or PS3 game but no consoles have been confirmed as of yet. Still heres more info here :

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6216991.html

EDIT : Needlemouse.com is confirmed to be a fake. Stupid IGN! Research dammit! lol.

Hopefully this will redeem themselves for the less than spectacular 3-D games

Another skeptical fan of the Genesis Sonic's here. I do hope it'll be great though.

Most importantly I hope it focusses on Level design/platforming/exploration rather than just ZOMG IM GOING 100MPH!!!!!oneoneone with flat/linear levels and lack of exploration....

Also I'd love to see the return of Super Sonic on all levels not just the final boss.

I promised myself to not expect anything good out from a Sonic game after Secret Rings, but I must say that I'm a bit interested in this one. It really is the make or break for the Sonic franchise, I really, really hope that this one is great.

I could see this coming to be honest. The success of so many 2D comebacks via download and Nintendo's imminent new Super Mario Bros retail title has made it a given.
Who'd have thought in 1996 when the Saturn and N64 were getting to grips with 3D that in 2010 we'd be seeing 2D Sonic and Mario games released

Given Nintendo and Sega's present relationship, I would be outright shocked if the Wii didn't get something out of this.

That aside, this looks real interesting.

I'm certainly interested, sure. I'm one of the ones who liked Secret Rings, but I do prefer 2D Sonics for what is probably obvious reasons.

Too bad I don't play the XBOX 360 ever even though my step-son has one...so I may never get to this if it doesn't get a Wii version.

Wow, right in the middle of my Sonic Fest. What're the chances?

I'll definitely keep my eye on this one. I've always really loved the series, and I'd even say the lesser games in the series are still enjoyable.

Seems needlemouse.com is a fake. IGN didnt really do there research of the site when reporting it as the teaser site.

I want a Pikachu in a Sombrero game now! It'd likely be better than any Sonic game anyways.

I agree! Especially if it's a platformer. Maybe a spiritual sequel to Pulseman? Pikachu in a Sombrero!

And you can get the Sonic 2 HD remake (assuming its a different game), which will likely be much better.

Or stick to Advance/Rush series for more recent 2D goodness.

I remember hearing a rumor last year that Sega were considering porting the Advance trilogy to Wiiware since you can't play the games on DSi...

I don't know why people ignore the Advance/Rush games, there have been 6 original 2D Sonic platformers in the last 10 years (compared to one Mario), they may not be identical to the 16-bit games but if this new game was true and there was one more it would be no more of a "long awaited comeback" than the next FIFA, right?

I agree. I think its mostly the surprise of a new 2D Sonic on home consoles for most people though. For me, im looking forward to seeing how a 2D Sonic game looks in HD and of course looking forward to playing a new Sonic game. But I always have the same feeling when I read things about Sonic. You get alot of sites or reviews that say "Sonic hasnt had a good game in years" and then leave it at that making no reference to the portable games at all. Its like they just ignore them so they can bash Sonic lol.

It's fine if they don't like them, but they should at least get their facts right. It's OK to say "I'd like to see a 2D Sonic that's different to the recent ones", but you can't say "I'd like to see Sonic return to 2D after all these years".

It's fashionable to bash Sonic these days. Review sites like to look tough and write negative reviews about popular series and people believe them. I've seen so many innaccurate reviews of Sonic games, it's one thing to have a negative opinion about a game (it's reasonable that not everyone will like all recent Sonic games) but it's another thing to make stuff up or write reviews based on assumptions and not having played it which is what you tend to get.
