Default Master System

Is the Sega Master System going to be on the Virtual Console?

The Master System wasn't a huge hit in Japan or the US, but it was a big success in Europe, so if it does turn up on VC, I wouldn't be surprised to see it in the EU region only.

I hope we do see Master System functionality added to VC, as the console had some great games we just didn't see on other formats. The MS Sonic games are excellent, as are Asterix, Fantasy Zone, Populous (the best console version), Phantasy Star, Psycho Fox, Shinobi (and of course, Alex Kidd in Shinobi World), and Xenon II.

Also worth a look are Master of Darkness and Zillion, which are the SMS versions of Castlevania and Metroid respectively. I've got a fondness for Basketball Nightmare too, but I doubt it holds up too well today.

EDIT: I forgot California Games, Mickey Mouse in the Castle of Illusion, Donald Duck: The Lucky Dime Caper, Ninja Gaiden and the best console version of Bubble Bobble.

It really depends. If the MD games are a big sucess on the VC (Which I d imagine they are), then I m sure Sega will want to release more content onto it I.E more of their consoles.

I don't think Sega own the rights to the MS anymore. I think they sold it to a toy company so they could produce the MS2. Not sure though

I know Sega licenced the Master System to Tec Toy, and they did various versions of the Master System for Brazil (where the console was unusually popular) up until about 1997/98. The Master System 2 was made by Sega in 1990. But I'm pretty sure Sega still own it now, I've never in my life heard that they don't, does anyone else know anything?

I hope the Master System does go on VC, it's much better than the NES in my opinion.

It would be cool to see afterburner and the original double dragon from the master system go on the VC, the nes version of double dragon wasn't as good.

As far as I'm aware, Sega still own the MS. They licensed it to Tec Toy for production in Brazil, but I don't think they gave up all rights. It certainly had nothing to do with the MSII, as I had one of those (as well as an original!), and it was definitely produced by Sega.

Best song ever!
I remember a similar giveaway with Sega Power that had Cathy Dennis songs on it, with Cathy giving game tips in-between!
