Default How many people actually had/have a Sega 32x even though it failed?

I have one, got it for about $10 at a retro game store, the games I have are Virtua Racing Deluxe, Doom, Cosmic Carnage, Quarterback Club, Star Wars Arcade, Virtua Fighter, Metal Head, and Moto Cross Championship.

I enjoy playing Doom from time to time, and Virtua Fighter is fun to play also, but looking back should Sega really have made the decision to release the 32x at all? I mean when it came out the Sega Saturn was about to be released in Japan, however I read that the project was originally done by Sega of Japan, then SOJ asked Sega of America to make the project, thats why America got the 32x first, then they where thinking of releasing a 2 in 1 Genesis called the Neptune, which never made it out of its prototype stage.

So anyone here have or had a Sega 32x?

I had a Sega 32X—it was given to me along with my Genesis for Christmas one year. The only games I had for it were Doom (which was fun) and Star Wars (which sucked). I think I ended up selling it for $20, after I had had my fill of Doom.

Glad to see someone besides me had the 32x, even though it failed, it's still a piece of gaming history.

I have fond memories of it, lack of games notwithstanding. I say I only played it for Doom, but I sure did play a lot of Doom (I hated online gaming back then, mainly because all of my friends would trounce me at Doom). I also remember being proud of myself when I actually figured out how to attach those metal fitting plates.

It was a badly timed release just as the next generation of consoles were around the corner, but in Sega's defence it was an unpredictable time. In the previous generation the Famicom had sold for over 7 years in Japan before it was replaced by the Super Famicom, and even then it was still popular during the early 90s. The Master System also sold quite well in the early 90s in Europe where it was very popular. So you can't blame Sega for thinking they could get more life out of the Mega Drive as well, it had only been out for 5 years in Japan at the time and it should have had a few more years to benefit from the 32X. But the gaming industry changed and it didn't work out like that, unfortunately.

There's not much else good to say about it, even Doom on 32X wasn't a good version. I'd like to try Knuckles Chaotix though, I've not played that.

The 32X was also an expansion for the Mega CD and there were a few "Mega CD 32X" games that required both add-ons, but not many because that was (obviously) a very small market. There was a lot of potential that we never saw.

I bought a 32X for $30 at Toys R Us when they were clearancing them years ago. I have Virtual Racing, Star Wars Arcade, and Knuckles Chaotix for mine. It was fun for a few weeks, then it wore thin. The Knuckles game annoyed the heck out of me too. Damn bungie cord power down..

The only game I ever cared to play on that 32X was Doom. And that's because Doom and Doom II on any system are awesome.
