Default List of VC games that have been altered in some way

To clear up confusion, I have compiled a list of currently available VC games in Europe and North America which have changes from the original version.

Air Zonk:
Change: Codes unlocked after beating Bitter mode don't work.
Reason: ???

Devil's Crush:
Change: All double triangles in Bonus Stage entrances have been changed to single triangles.
Reason: Probably to make them not resemble Stars of David as much.

Kid Icarus:
Change: All passwords that spell out phrases (For example, "ICARUS FIGHTS MEDUSA ANGELS") no longer work.
Reason: ???

Kirby's Ghost Trap/Avalanche:
Change: The secret cheat which had to be entered with controller 2 can now be entered with either controller 1 or controller 2.
Reason: Probably just to make it easier to enter (It didn't make any sense to enter it on the second controller).

The Legend of Zelda:
Change: You can access the save screen with controller 1.
Reason: Same as Kirby's Ghost Trap, really.

Mario Kart 64:
Change: Ghosts in Time Trial mode cannot be saved.
Reason: Inability to correctly emulate the N64 memory card.

Tecmo Bowl:
Change: Player names have been removed.
Reason: Obviously licensing issues.

Wave Race 64:
Change: Various banners on the sides of courses have been edited to advertise the Nintendo DS and Wii.
Reason: Presumably because licensing with the companies advertised ran out.

Wrecking Crew:
Change: Design mode button combinations (In order to fill the screen with a specific object, etc.) can now be entered on controller 1 instead of controller 2.
Reason: To make it easier, because the Wii remote has more buttons.

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link:
Change: The screen doesn't flash a multitude of colours after dying.
Reason: Most likely to prevent epilepsy, which Nintendo's had a few unfortunate encounters with in the past.

Change: Bricks in the basements of houses are different.
Reason: Possibly because they were hard on the eyes?

All N64 games with Rumble:
Change: Rumble functionality no longer works.
Reason: No rumble pak in the Wii remote or Classic Controller (It is unknown why they didn't make the GC controller rumble though).

All NES games with custom level creation (Excitebike, Mach Rider, Wrecking Crew):
Change: Levels are now saved instead of them being deleted.
Reason: Saving can now be emulated, the original NES cartridges couldn't do that (The features were intended for the FDS but left in the NES versions).

That's all I know, feel free to contribute any more if you know them.

Regarding Kid Icarus, the password aspect of the game used a separate bit of hardware inside the cartridge apparently, which would have been too expensive/difficult to emulate.

Something along those lines anyway, I'm sure a much more educated folk will come and explain it better

I've heard something like that before. Question is - Does Metroid no longer have working password phrases as well?

That's the odd thing, my friend got the Justin Bailey code working on it, so it doesn't seem to be the case for that...

Let's hope a NES wizkid comes and clears the confusion!

The Legend of Zelda (same for Zelda2?)
Change: Save screen, changed input slightly and uses 1 controller instead of of 2
Reason: Probably just to make it easier to enter (or the fact that NES bundled 2 controllers and Wii 1?)

Sounds strange ifnot since NoE did promote that code in the shop(Warp Zone)

According to the operations guide for Air Zonk, there are cheat codes given after beating the "Bitter" difficulty, and these codes don't work in the VC version.

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link:
Change: The background no longer flashes when Link loses a life.
Reason: Epilepsy?

Change: The bricks in the rooms where you learn new skills/magic are different.
Reason: ???

Now that's just silly.

Punch-Out!! is not edited, a version with Mr. Dream instead of Mike Tyson was released on the NES after Nintendo broke their deal with Tyson. This is the one on VC.
