Earlier today I just popped downstairs to make a cup of tea, and came back up to find the wind had blown my curtain around my desk, and knocked a cup of squash all over my wireless keyboard.
The keys keep sticking now (a previous problem, be prepared to see quite a few missing letters in my posts for a while), and the Z just works as undo. (I'm currently pasting Z to type it), and there might be other similar error's I don't know about yet. I don't want a new one because I think this one is expensive at full price, and I'll have to get a new mouse too (they're linked) meaning 2 more sets of those terrible wires. So.... Anyone know how I can fix it?

tch. build quality sucks these days. my amiga 500+ survived many cups of tea and even a can of coke going over it. never a grumble nor stuck key.
i think I've seen some cleaning stuff in pc shops. but i don't know if their designed for keyboards.

I've done something similar before. What I did was I took all the keys off, then used a little water between the keys (not on the actual electrical parts), to get rid of all the sticky substance. It worked initially, and that was great, but it soon dried up and started sticking again. So I took the keys off again and did it again, and again, and eventually it stopped sticking. Depending on your keyboard though you might not be able to take the keys off (it takes a little force, but try it on a key that you don't use much first like one of the F-function keys or the Windows key), also this might not be a good idea for all types of keyboards (it worked on mine, it might damage others). If it's an expensive keyboard as well it might have metal mechanical key switches and you shouldn't attempt this with that kind of keyboard.
And, er... just to add a disclaimer, it goes without saying that you've got to be very careful to avoid doing any damage (water and electrics don't mix either), so you must do it all at your own risk. I'd take the batteries out first, just in case. But it doesn't sound like you've got much choice. Wait a bit first to see if anyone can think of a better way. |
