Default Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (Memorial Day 2008!!)

For those who are unaware, a fourth Indiana Jones picture is now in production after being in development hell since 1989.

Spielberg is directing, Lucas is producing, and an all star cast of Harrison Fod, Shia LeBouf, John Hurt, Cate Blanchett, Karen Allen, Ray Winstone, and Jim Broadbent.

The film was announced officially as 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' at last night's MTV awards by LeBouf.

The film will be released on May 22, 2008 and a trailer is expected sometime this fall.

You can find all the latest news about the film at indianajones.com.

What are your thoughts about the film? Do you think Ford is too old for Indy? Do you think the film will be better than the previous three?

ford is to old to reprise his role. i thought that lucas had planned to have ford play Indiana's dad and pass the whip and hat to a younger actor. (although not LeBouf, that would be wrong).

He's doing it anyways. I have seen a few photos with the aging Ford in classic Indy garb. I'm not sure what to expect of this movie. It would be nice if it ended up being decent, but I'm not getting my hopes up just yet.

From what I've read this movie is supposed to be set in the late 50s/early 60s so it makes sense for Indy to have aged. Also, he's an archiologist, there is no age limit on that profession so I don't have any issue with Ford reprising the role. I'm just hoping Lucas doesn't screw this up like he did with Star Wars. The title is extremely wordy and I felt the speculative title "City of the Gods" sounded much better.

I doubt Lucas will be able to, since Spielberg is the one doing the directing... Thank god!

I don't mind Lucas' directing, it's his dialogue that kills me. As long as he didn't write this it should be fine.

Sadly, I believe Lucas did write the new one, so we'll see what the script is like. I too think the title is a bit unwieldy, and City of the Gods just sounds much more impressive and ominous, although the current title has just the right kind of pulpy cheesiness. I'm not concerned about Ford being able to do the role, but I am concerned about Lebouf, who I really don't like, although I'm not entirely sure why.

I know one thing though, I'm going to be ridiculously excited when I hear that theme tune blasting out at a cinema for the first time since 1989!

Ford and Spielberg are a lock. Everything else is up in the air. The title sounds like a Young Indiana Jones title, which is a series im not very fond of. I'm generally a negative person and this subject is no exception to my disposition. I love the first three and now it seems they want to cash in on my nostalgia and ruin the reputation of the series.
