Well, this was going to be a response in another thread, but I think it merits a discussion of its own.
What's your opinion about hyped video games? Some may live up to it, most don't. I think hype is best ignored, although there are times when I fall victim to such when I hype games in my own mind, which only rarely happens. Most of the time, though, I take the wait-and-see stance. Frankly, I get a good laugh out of silly fanboys going "This game's the s**t!", "That's sick!", "@w3sum d00d!", or "Best game 3V3R!" Talk about the intelligence of the masses, or lack thereof. Sure, I may like the look of some games' trailers as well, but one can't tell much about a game until one has actually played it. I've considered commenting on videos on Gametrailers, but decided against it, since any constructive thoughts and criticisms are always buried beneath mountains of unintelligible gibberish from the fanboys and their counterparts.

I have a rule of thumb that i dont watch render videos to makeup my mind, it only shows howmuch creds they used to make it.
First when i see the actual gameplay vid's i start to judge the game(does it look like fun/do i wanna test it etc). Aslong as the game have word of mouth based on a tested game type hype its usually all good. But when its the This is the bestest game ever type hype based on teaser renders and media spamming, i get put off really. |
