Wow, this is so odd, 'cause I was about to ask the same.

I've spent over an hour moving rocks and picking weeds, I planted my seeds on un holed ground (The Hoe didn't say it was for grass) and now I think I need to restart.

What the, why is the name of the thread different?
Anyway, I found out quite a bit when I selected how to play on the menu, pretty much you use each pointy object for a different thing, you use the axe to destroy tree stumps, and the pick-axe is used for digging up the ground to make a good place to plant turnips, there is also a hammer that is used for smashing big rocks, and you know about that blue bag? Its your seeds, toss them into the air over the area you have dug up, and you can plant your turnips (I think, either that or they are grass seeds) then you want to water your turnips, get the watering can, there should be a small pond somewhere in the farm, and you need to go there to fill your watering can, once it is full, go back to where you planted your turnips, and water your turnips, then you toss random food into a stew, and woo a girl with a cake, and thats all I got to watch! Im still really worried about the dog though, do I feed it? Or do I just leave it alone? Anyway DEMON, I hope I helped, I will watch the rest of the vid later =)

Nope, the dog doesn't need to be fed. The best use for it is to keep it outside your chicken coop, so it'll scare off wild dogs from your chickens, but that's it.

Harvest Moon is simple in the fact that you can play and manage your Farm as you wish.

You start off with very little money, but it can quickly be multiplied. How? Buy seeds, plot land with the hoe, and then plant seeds!

Here's a quick tip: To get the most out of your seeds, plot your land like this:

xxx
xxx
x x

x=hoe'd dirt

Why like this? You throw your seeds whenever you plant them, in a square pattern, including the square you're standing on currently. This way, you can get to the middle crop without sacrificing a whole bunch of other crops, keeping efficiency high.

After you plant your crop, water it EVERY DAY (unless it's raining, you don't have to that day) until it grows enough for you to collect it. After that, pick them up and drop them in the box, and you'll have money the next day! Rinse, repeat.

I was just as confused when I first played it, but it's a good game so don't give up.

Think of it as Animal Crossing with a time limit. Ask the people in the village about growing crops and anything else, they tell you everything you need to know. You don't have to do all of it, although part of the challange is trying to achieve as much as possible in within the set time. Treat that your first go as a practice run if you like, it's good to play it twice.

To plant seeds you should hoe a 3x3 square of ground per packet of seeds, stand in the middle when planting the seeds and the seeds will be planted in a 3x3 square. That's something that isn't properly explained in the game so I thought I should point that out. Or you can just hoe a large patch of ground that you can keep using over and over again. You'll soon see that you can't water the square in the middle when the crops grow and that's the reason for Serge.EXE's tip, which I didn't realise until now!

Ah, there are several ways to do this. You could go to the bake shop and buy a cake, but this is costly and the bakery isn't open at nights, I think. The best way is to go to the forest, and head to the hot springs. You recover Stamina each time you jump in, so jump in and out a bunch of times, return to your farm, then continue your work!

Tip #2: Later on in the game, during the winter months when it snows and during Severe weather, your Wooden fence tends to break. If your fence is all along the edges of your farm, it takes a long time to check every single fence post and replace them if needed. How can you save time on this?

The answer lies with the VERY first work-day of the game. The small stones! These things act like a wooden fence if placed around your farm, except they NEVER break, no matter what! Now, it's impossible to line your entire farm with these, there just aren't enough. However, it limits your use of wood to one medium-sized section, allowing for easier check/repair of your fence when needed.

The moral: Don't throw the rocks into the pond to get rid of them. USE THEM! This trick really isn't worth restarting a game though. It simply makes things easier on you.

Okay, I think I've got the hang of things, I gave the pink haired girl a cake and a flower, how do get her to love you? Do I just keep giving her heaps of stuff?
