What I'm playing this week (Sepember 18-24):
  • 99 Bullets - debut!
  • Antipole - trying to get close to the end
  • Little Red Riding Hood Zombie BBQ - fourth level; just beat first boss.
  • Mighty Milky Way - hoping to get done 3-8.
  • Blaybloo: Super Melee Brawlers Battle Royale.

Xenoblade Chronicles
40h in, 6 characters x LV40. One huge landscape after another. Villages and cities (especially talking to the citizen and getting a vibe of the different races) is one thing I liked. Some Mogry kind of tribe is absolutely adorable. There's another city that you have to help build up again. Reminds me a bit of Terranigma.
Most of the environment graphics look amazing from afar, but some walls (mountains/cliffs) and rivers look low-poly and low-res close up. At least you can see endlessly into the distance and it runs smooth.
The first 20h of this game were a long journey through endless grass fields and underground dungeons. But after this the game really picks up in both: an interesting world and a good story. And the battle system evolves with every new power of the Monado. I also forge my own jewels now. And have completed all of the sidequests that I could find in the first few maps.
Beaming and swordfighting, timetraveling and collectathoning my way slowly through this game.

Also played some more Starfox Command, second playthrough, different route, different story.

Started FINAL FANTASY FABLES: Chocobo's Dungeon. I'm 20h in, LV20. Quite a good grinder. A random map roguelike RPG with a good story, easy gameplay, fantastic soundtrack, unique item honing system and an ingame card collecting / online card battle game. Fantastic game so far. Another worthy one to have in a good Wii collection.

Today played some Mario Sports Mix with my mom. Really got into Hockey, Dodgeball, and Volleyball. Won a few cups. Saw an ending.

After that made some progress in Hydroventure. 61 rainbow drops.

HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2 & 3 RETURN
HardKKore!! Both games on this compilation are maybe the hardest railshooters for the Wii. Only a very limited amount of continues and lives. And the ****ing horror even on EASY.

MADWORLD
KILLERGAME No. 1
Most violent game I've seen so far. I love my kiddy console. Played until chapter 4. Throws new and fresh butcher material at you every corner.

RE4Wii Edition.
Tested this. Works. Will introduce my girl with this version (I've beaten RE4 on Gamecube 4 times (2 times on PRO). I'm just sick that RE4 Wii Edition has no PRO mode from the beginning. I think I have to play through NORMAL to unlock it (like in the GC version)... I want to start on highest difficulty right away.

Have you returned to earlier areas? New quests become available as the plot progresses and your affinity with the area improves.

I think I'm up to the same point just about 10 levels behind you and half the time!

Just collected the latest comedy edition to my team and testing him out around Colony 6. It seems empty so far but I didn't get a great deal of time to explore.

There's a big bad in the marsh fortress and I want to level up so I can have a rematch. His instant kill move is a pain. Retreat!

Played a little bit of Sequence on my PC and finished the first floor after duking it out with a Victorian age guardian. I also managed to craft two more scrolls ('Fallout' and 'From Dusk Till Dawn') as well as get a variety of materials for the recipes I got on the second level. I'm playing the game on the hard difficulty and I can already tell things will be getting hectic very soon.

Played an 1,5 hours (or so) of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. I'm really getting into this game and I'm definitely enjoying the experience of playing a fighting game with my Mad Catz TE Stick. Today was a day of trying out some Nova combos (and utterly sucking at flight cancelling) and getting my ass pounded by some local kids who obviously play more fighting games than I do =P The upside is that I can barely believe how good the connection is with people near me. It's the first time I've played games online on my PS3 with local folks (I didn't know anyone with a PS3 before) and the experience is awesome.

Played about an hour of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. I've spent a long while trying to flight cancel with Nova and, while I can see tiny improvements, the execution barrier feels ridiculously high (at least considering the amount of time I'm used to spent with an individual game.)

Edit: In case anyone is wondering, this is the part I'm currently practising (as I've not even managed to do this consistently.)

crouching M , H , S (cancel) forward S.jump, H (cancel) Flight, H (cancel) Flight, delayed H...

note1: the part in bold is the one giving me problems, I often end up doing a Team Aerial Combo instead of doing the proper cancel.
note2: the command for Flight is the same for every flying character (down, down-back, back + S)

No more gaming today, only after writing this I realize it's been a pretty lacklustre Monday in terms of gaming (despite being one of the days where I have quite a bit of free time.)

Played and finished Zeno Clash. I had played the game once before, on the day of the purchase over a month ago (man, time does fly.) I've heard people say that it was a short game before. According to Steam I finished the whole thing in a little over 3 hours. It definitely felt (a little) longer but I could definitely be wrong. My advice? It's a nice little game but the controls never felt spot on and the story, while initially intriguing didn't manage to come to a good conclusion. Since it's so short though (which is a good thing) I'd say go get it if you can find it for USD 5 or less; it will give you a night or two worth of entertainment.

I also started playing Cave Story +. I had known about this little game for the longest of times (having the translated version in my PC for ages) but never really put in time. It was a momentous (not really) lack of internet that led me to try my fighting stick with the only available platformer that I had on Steam. So far I've put, what... 4-5 hours into the game and I'm very pleased with my experience!

To be precise...
Warning: Spoiler Below.
I've gone into the plantation, got captured and found Sue's letter telling me to find her mom. I've also found (and got stumped) by the clock room that has a chest I couldn't open. Any help on this one? I've not seen anything in the game that hints to what might do the trick.

That's all for today. Have fun!

Just finished Terra's story in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. Once again the final boss is a huge ramp in difficulty and cheap as all get out. Unsatisfying conclusion but I still have 3 more stories to go. I did see credits so I'm not sure if that counts as a Beat. Unsure if I should trek on, or take a break with Goldeneye 007...

Metroid Prime 2 (Trilogy)
After not having my Wii for a year I fell out of this one but I picked it up again the other day and I'm addicted again. I just got the super missile, seek missile, boost ball and updated my text reading skills, now I have so many doors to check!

Mario Kart 7
Half way done mirror mode now, much easier now that my 3DS is fixed! Just spent a lot of time today playing around with kart custimizations trying to see which I like best, I want something with speed over middle, and acceleration and handling at least at middle. So far my best bet is B Dasher with those sponge wheels and the paraglider.

Kirby's Epic Yarn.

Triple A level design, polishing, cuteness, controls, co-op, content and music.

I'm now in the ocean world, and it should be a 10/10 by the time I finish it. It's already very close to beat the best platformers on the system and for 20 bucks a real bargain.

I heard once that you can't die in that game, is it true? If so, what makes it that good of a game?

Mart Kart 7
Beat the entire Grand Prix, will probably go back sometime to get 3 stars in each match.

Pushmo
In the Murals 2 stage now! Awesome game!

I've not had a lot of time to play games these days but I've stuck with Sequence (for the PC) because it's very polite about letting me sneak in 15-20 minutes of gameplay every time I want to and I actually get in-game stuff done in those small sessions. Besides being complimentary with my now reduced gaming time it remains an awesome game and, surprisingly, I'm really enjoying the interactions between the two main characters.

I'm currently in the 4th floor and **** got incredibly real. I still beat all the enemies but the songs have gotten pleasantly difficult (they were always kind of challenging since I've been playing on Hard) and I predict the game will get very interesting from now on.

Not being able to die isn't an issue, because you get a wellbalanced penality for touching an enemy. You lose pearls (you collect them to buy things in town and earn a medal in each stage), so one you get hit by an enemy you lose some of your pearls and have a lower chance to get a gold medal for that level. However, it's still a Kirby game and everyoneone should know that Kirby games are rather easy in nature, so that doesn't lower my score. It's one of the best Kirby games out there, especially for one and two players. It beats my former favourite Kirby's Fun Pak, and well, the one thing it doesn't accomplish is having 4-player co-op like Kirby's Adventure Wii does.
I'm still struggling on how to score them fairly. But they're both among the best in the series for different reasons imo.

Also worth noting that you can only access some secret levels if you can collect enough pearls during boss fights.

Still playing Sequence, I'm now at the final floor facing the dreaded final boss*. The fight is particularly troublesome (it's the only boss I've had to re-do and the second or third battle I've actually lost in my 15+ hours into the game) because I think my stats are just barely enough to beat him but only if I manage to get my spells at the right time, in the right order.

I don't particularly enjoy requiring certain stats but not being told what they are but I guess that's been the trend with a lot of video game RPGs in the last 25 years.

Holy...
Well apparently I forgot to mention that I finished Cave Story+ like ages ago. It was fun except for some ill placed checkpoints. It's certainly possible I might want to revisit for trying out the other endings though I'm not certain of it.

*well actually...
Warning: Spoiler Below.
I'm not taking into account the extra floor you can access by synthesising Iridium

Dungeons of Dredmor

I admit defeat and have started a file with no permadeth and the easiest setting. It's handy for getting quick achievements by maxing the smaller skill trees.

After the sad demise of my super vampire I decided to go the other way and play as a vegan. It's a very different experience and I did go through a stage of unintentionally killing Diggles as they blithely wandered into all the traps.

I've reached the 6th floor and have maxed three of my skill trees (unarmed combat, vegan and erm...the mushroom one) and managed to buy a powerful sword. The next plan is to try and wipe out the monster zoo. I'm about half way and it really helps to recruit other monsters to fight for you!

If we weren't already playing Binding of Issac for VCFGOTMC than this game would have been a good pick for leaderboards, discussions and challenges.
