So it's my backloggiversary today, one year since I set up an account.
To celebrate, I decided to beat my last game.
And as such, I now have that shiny 0 next to that unfinished medal.
I hope others can accomplish the same. Good luck to you all.

Congrats, I've never seen anybody with a beaten backlog before.

I hope to finish my own shortly before I die aged 106!

Well it's no longer beaten now I've downloaded Plants vs. Zombies, but eh. =P
And I doubt it'll take you that long, granted 250+ games will take a while, but still...

Congratulations. I never realised, but me and you share the same Backloggery join date. Doubt I will ever beat my backlog though.

Alright, have a new Christmas/Ace Attorney theme up. Took me a while to figure out how to get a good looking background considering there weren't any backgrounds from the game that would have worked.

I finally got my Sexy Rosaline Christmas theme up. I would've done a Princess Peach theme, but something tells me the admins wouldn't have appreciated the pictures I found.

3. Okay, okay! Change from 4 to 5 star ratings.
It's on the Changelog page since April 2009. Is it that much work to add an extra star? I hate that 4 star rating.

For selfish reasons of not wanting to re-rate 1000+ games, I like the 4-star system.

Any rating scale is only as good as the meaning attached to each item on the scale. I have the BL scale pretty nicely defined in my mind.

1 = bad game
2 = average/OK game
3 = good game
4 = rare excellent game

This means I give out lots of 2s and 3s, not so many 1s and 4s. It's nice and symmetrical.

Yeah, I rate my games the same way, but 5 stars is pretty much a standard rating scale. I have never seen any other site that is using 4 stars.

* = Poor
** = Mediocre
*** = Good
**** = Great/Above average
***** = Excellent/Amazing

This would be much better. There are so many games that I've played that are better than 2 stars, but not good enough for 3 stars.

I can't think of a single game that's better than 2 stars but not good enough for 3 stars, but this highlights the inherent subjectivity of rating scales. A 5-star rating scale has to either have 2 ranks for bad games (bad and very bad?) or three ranks for good games (good, very good, and very very good?). Both of those systems are lacking in terms of how I describe game quality.

If a game is bad, it's bad. If it's absolute tripe, it's bad. If it did pretty much everything wrong but a couple things right, but it's still bad, then it's still bad. If it did enough things right not to be bad, then it's average, and it can transcend the only necessary rank for bad games.

On the other side, if a game does a lot of things right but not enough to be good/great, then that stays in average territory! I don't feel bad making games like that share a rank with games that only barely escaped the bad category. They're both middling, average games, and they belong with one another.

Heck, I could do with a 3-star system, with ranks for bad, average, and good!

This is basically what the BL uses right now, since the 4th star is really just a favourites system. Some people give out 4-stars to every game they like, but I reserve it for games that give me frequent e-gasms.

I'm like that too, and that's why a 4 star rating scale is too limited for me. I only give a 4 star rating to games that were absolutely amazing, and only 16 games have deserved that so far.

I give 3 stars to a game that is great IMO and 2 stars to a game that is good, but also to games that are OKish/decent. That's why I'm torn between handing out 2 or 3 stars most of the time.

But hey, like you said, it's a personal taste. We are all rating games in our own way. I just think it's weird that it's still on that page, while they are most likely not going to change it.

Bring back percentages...or scores out of 1000 like ACE magazine used to have in the 80's. That way I knew never to buy anything that scored below 723/1000

That is how I am basing my ratings system off of.

Man, I must be pretty picky to list only 15 games with the highest 4 Stars rating out of the all the games I've played.

And I thought I was picky with 39/~1000! You're just an infrequent e-gasmer.

New Backloggery banner! Nothing humorous this time, just something to show what games I'm currently concentrating on. (and one I soon will be ).

As for the star system, I don't care too much as I don't rate my games. I am interested in some of Changelog's other things like #5: "Split the Game Note field into a Progress Note and Mini Review"

The upcoming item in the changelog that interests me is the ability to customize system ordering in our lists, so I can sort the system list from top to bottom in order of how many games I have or in order of that system's completion rate, etc.

Added you.

How militant are people on the whole unfinished category? Do you feel compelled to complete games even if you hate them? I've changed a few games from unfinished to null as I know I will never have the time nor inclination to complete them.

i only use "null" for games that are uncompletable, say like donkey kong or balloon fight etc. i will endevour to beat all the games i own no matter how much i hate them

and thx for the add!

I usually get rid of them if I hate them that much.

I changed my theme to celebrate the end the very rare completion of an RPG, as well as my total 180 of opinion towards this particular game. I'll post the link after the break.

Same here. I have a few games that are terrible IMO, but I'm going to beat those too and complete them eventually. Examples are Niki - Rock 'n' Ball and Toy Story 2. God I can't stand those two, but I did beat both of them.

For games I dislike, I always try and spend more time on them to see if I change my mind. If I still hate/dislike the game I always try and sell them off. Sadly on BL, those games are still left as unfinished, unless I already own somewhere else or if they can't be beat.

Okay, just spent the last 2 hours updating my backloggery...should be up-to-date to the best of my knowledge. Mickey, you can add me back to your friend list if you want. My now playing list is considerably smaller....sorry for any problems that caused.

Even games I own that I despise get finished. I use null for not started or unbeatable games.
