Does anyone know a really good website to make banners? I can never find a site that allows me to upload two pictures for the same banner.

I put up a banner at long last on my Backloggery. It didn't turn out quite as nice as I wanted it but it does the job.

Actually it looks good! Keep it for a while

A lot of people change their banners on a regular basis. I just switched mine to a Animal Crossing theme for a while

Well I've got my own page now, albeit bannerless. I'm hoping to make a green de Blob inspired thing. I've also only got Wii games on the page, since I have quite a huge mess of PC games that would take too long to put in.

I added you.

Be careful to read the site's explanation of the Master Crystal criteria!

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but what were your mastery challenge criteria? Try as I may, I can't think of any way to master Wii Sports, except maybe getting a hole in one on every course in golf or something.

Hmm, yeah, hadn't quite thought of that. I've changed it to completed now.

I'd say getting pro rank in the five main games and unlocking all the training games would count as completion.

I've decided that I'm going to try to complete Kingdom Hearts 100%. Hopefully Sephiroth isn't too tough to beat.

To complete Wii Sports...
- you have to be pro (more than 1000 points) in all 5 games

To master Wii Sports...
- you have to get the 15 platinum medals in the challenges

I'd agree with that.

My own completion requirements mean I also have to unlock and get some kind of medal (even bronze) in all the challenges. I only have one challenge left to medal in (probably one of the boxing ones, since I hate that game). I think I'll shoot to complete this now actually.

Would you guys count S-ranking everything in Advance Wars as mastery or completion?

S-Rank in everything, in all modes,
and all the unlockables,
and all the medals you can win in the stats screen.

That's mastering it.

Well, I finally added my GCN games, so now all that's left are my Wii, Xbox, and Xbox 360 games...and then my PS2 games(which I am NOT looking forward to). Oh yeah, and I gotta add my wishlist too.

As you can see, I also finally customized my Backloggery page, so now I'm not stuck with the crummy default theme(no offense to whoever designed it, it's just too bland for me) Oh, and Refa, I was thinking about you when I put that quote down there on the bottom of the page.

Hard to say bowser. Most times, simply getting S-ranks on everything in a game isn't enough for mastery since mastery is supposed to involve challenge that goes above and beyond the scope of the game. S-ranks or high scores can usually only be used for mastery if they're nearly unattainable within the course of regular play (like Elite Beat Agents for example—holy ****!). I don't know how hard it is to get S-ranks in a game like Advance Wars since I haven't played much of it, but it seems like the kind of game where some other kind of challenge might be more viable as a master run (like imposing some kind of limitation on how you play).

One thing that bugs me (and Keeper, and a lot of others) is when folks simply use total completion for a master crystal. For example in Final Fantasy Tactics, having all characters at level 99 with totally max stats and max levels in all jobs with all skills learned (including the rare/secret ones) and having all items and equipment in the game—that's completion, not mastery. To master that game, you'd have to subject yourself to some kind of challenge that plays with what the game expects of you.

So most times, high scores and ranks usually aren't necessary for completion, but they also usually don't mean anything above and beyond completion either.

Like anything on Backloggery, use your own discretion. In the end, your Backloggery is a tool for you to help you enjoy your own gaming.

What would people consider "beating" a fighting game as being. The Fortune Cookie threw me Samurai Shodown 2 on NGPC, an interesting choice that I havn't spent much time with in the past.
Completing this game will mean unlocking all the cards but could I mark it off as beaten by beating the single player mode (which I've done twice tonight) or would you say I should have to do it with all 15 characters?

To me, fighting games are easy beats but difficult completes. If you beat the game with one fighter and get credits, it's a beat. But then you have to beat it with everyone else and unlock everything to complete it.

Cool, three games beaten in two days. First time I've been under 190 unbeaten in a long time

now if I can finally clear fallout 3 I can live a fortune cookie only existence till Chinatown Wars arrives in the post.

No S-ranking stuff usually isn't too tough, instead you should challenge yourself and try to C-rank everything

I find it funny when people have a bunch of complete games listed as masteries, but then have completed games with nothing written in their note. It just makes me wonder how they differentiate between the two.

They've probably never played the ones listed as complete.

Maybe they're games still in their plastic wrap, or at least disc/cart, manual and case, in good condition. Perhaps you have the wrong idea on this completion status, and actually have a fair amount more completed games?

No, it's not. That's completion. You have mastered a game when you make up and beat a challenge that is harder than all the ingame challenges.

Although in Advance Wars, you can't really do to much wrong while still winning, like you can't refuse to use tank-type units or something and get far. Maybe S-ranking everything without skills, or CO powers, would be good. Maybe inefficient COs could work too, like Eagle for boat heavy missions, and Drake for air missions, for example.

So what do you guys think of this new BL update?

Personally I like the latest update change, but other than that don't like it. These badges only lengthen comments at the moment.

Also new avatar! Yay!

The badges are pretty unnecessary.

The "backloggiversary" anniversary tracker / status bar is pretty unnecessary, too, and probably only serves to promote cliquish elitism.

The abolishment of the MotW is great because MotW really only served to promote cliquish elitism, too.

The new front page is nice, but it shows fewer updates/people now, so no one stays on there long (not like I ever explored profiles through the main page anyway).

I'm waiting for some actual functional changes, like being able to change the order in which my systems are listed/displayed.

The abolishment is only gonna strengthen it, though, as long as people are still marked as having been MotW once, without other people given the chance of obtaining it any time in the future.
It's a stupid, half-assed move.

I think the Badges are cute, reminds me of forum badges. Though I wish they could've been implemented better such as with "Treasure Hunter" being for 1000+ games. I would be better if they made it where it's games you personally own, rather than a combination of all of your games. I would like to see more Badges implemented.

And with the Backloggiversary tracker, I like it where it tells you when you joined the place. Gives me one less thing to remove on my Page Info. I personally don't care for my "Years of Membership" though. Also I'm happy that the "Member of the Week" thing is gone also because, like what Joyo said, it may promote elitism amongst the Backloggers.

The new front page is nice because I love it how it shows everyone's avatars so that you can actually put a face to the names you see on the main page.

I agree with all of that, except for MotW business, where I agree with Keeper.

Indeed.

I think the front page needs something better than the system statistics on there. I think a MotD type thing wouldn't be bad, if they made it undocumented, sort of a way to publicize people that are relatively unknown and have nice themes and such. But there wouldn't be any gain from it, except frontpageship for the day (ie. no little star, or something) and not calling it MotD would be a good start...
