| Do you like my helmet? | Romance of the Three Kingdoms I've been following this series since the first one on the NES, getting each subsequent North American release on or near the release date. As such, I've enjoyed RTK, RTK2-4 (SNES), RTK4&6 (PS1), RTK7-11 (PS2), and of course RTK4 on VC. The only one of those games that I didn't really like was RTK7, and it wasn't even that bad... and it was drastically improved in the very next game! Great series. Final Fantasy Main series. This is another series I've been with since the beginning. I've played every North American iteration of the games in this series, including remakes, and while some are better than others (and some are far worse than others), they're all great fun and deserve a special place in my heart. Dynasty Warriors Yet another series I've been playing since day one of the first release, as soon as I heard there was a fighting game based on the Three Kingdoms period made by the same people who did RTK, I had to have it. Even though some of the games change very little from the previous one, I'm into the series enough to notice and appreciate the slight difference and gameplay improvements. Relatively recently, I branched out into the Samurai Warriors and Warriors Orochi subseries, too, and I'll be trying out the Gundam subseries later this month. I don't care for them as much because of the different settings from the one I know and love, but the gameplay is there and it's often just as fun. (I'm including Xtreme Legends expansions in this series, but no Empires and Dynasty Tactics games because their gameplay is often quite a bit different and not as good.) Fire Emblem I only got into this series relatively recently, with Radiant Dawn, but I since went back and tracked down Path of Radiance and the GBA titles, and also picked up Shadow Dragon. While I haven't finished all of these games yet, the 3D ones were among the finest video game experiences I'd ever had, and the 2D ones are good clean strategic fun. This series definitely deserves a place on the list. Warsong Speaking of good clean strategic fun, this is a series that is only comprised of one game in North America! Warsong is one of my favourite strategy games ever! I love it! And I include the series on this list because I've also played Langrisser II (Genesis) and Der Langrisser (SNES) through sketchy means. Great series, although I still believe that the first game is the best, so pray for a North American VC release. Mega Man I'm going to be honest, we're now getting into the portion of the list where I don't like every game in the series, but I like enough of them to consider myself a fan. I'm lumping all kinds of different Mega Man here for simplicity. I love MM1-3, MM9, MMX-X2, and the PSP remakes. There's something about classic side-scrolling action that makes me happy. Castlevania Yes, I just started playing this series last month, but I've been playing enough to know that the first two games and a couple of the Metrovanias are high-class in my gaming experience. I'm looking forward to playing more of the highly regarded classics, to help lock this series onto my list of favourites. Metroid This gets into the top part of the list because of the excellence of the 2D games in this series. Metroid, Metroid II, Super Metroid, Fusion, and Zero Mission are all top-class games that I really enjoyed playing. Prime is good in its own way, but it's not my style. Honorable mentions: Lufia The first two SNES games are top-notch RPGs. The Legend of Zelda It would be higher on the list, but I only really love the 2D games, and I haven't played the latest 3D games so I'm not qualified to judge. Super Mario As with Zelda, my love of this series is really restricted to the 2D entries, SMB1-3 and SMW1-2, with SMB3 and SMW being the true standouts for me. Chrono Yep, these games are really good, but there are only a couple of them. Since it's now widely available, I can't really hype it into the main list like I did with Warsong (come on, I want Warsong released on the VC over here...!). Trigger is miles better than Cross, but Cross is good enough to allow me to include them on here as a series. Suikoden 1, 2, 5, and the DS game are all enjoyable and cohesive enough to get it onto the runner up list. I haven't played them in so long that I can't rave enough about them to boost them into the main list. Shining I want to include these games in the main list, but I haven't played enough of the later games in the series to do so without feeling bad. Expect that to change soon. Still, on the strength of the first three Genesis games alone, this series should do well as long as the later games don't drag it down by being unplayably terrible. |

| Some of my favorite game franchises are: Ace Attorney: - I love the humor, characters, and the cases that are done in these series. While my love for the fandom has wade, I still admire this series and cannot wait for future installments like Perfect Prosecutor: Miles Edgeworth. Clock Tower: - One of the best horror adventure titles to me. Even though HUMAN Entertainment is now gone and CAPCOM doesn't want to bother with these series, I still admire what the Clock Tower games have done so far. I love a game that actually focuses on the whole running away from your stalker and use your surroundings to hide. That realistic side to horror really appeals to me. Etrian Odyssey: - Everything about this game is perfect. It has spectacular music and nice graphics, and it really brings back the old school type of dungeon crawlers. Especially since you have to create your own party with your own guild, it really brings out your creative side to think of stories about your party. Final Fantasy: - They are special to me because I would never have thought I love RPGs if it wasn't for Final Fantasy II US. They have some good games and some bad games in the series, and I still love to play them. I am not much into Final Fantasy now, I still love to play the next game in the series or another port they will eventually release. Mario: - This includes anything with Mario in it such as Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart, and etc. I grew up on Nintendo and it's pretty hard for me to change my love for the games when I had so many fond memories of the games. Persona: - Persona is now the new Final Fantasy to me. It all started back then when I was curious about Revelations: Persona while in a movie rental store that got me into Persona. I love the idea of summoning demons to do your bidding and the modern setting. Granted I love the new approach to the series, thanks to the success of Persona 3 and Persona 4. I now only see good things for the future of the Persona games. pop'n music: - Been a fan of it since the first game was released back in 1999, and fourteen games later over the span of over nine years later, I am still a fan of this BeMani series and I prefer it over beatmania and DDR. pop'n music is just one of the perfect rhythm games out there. Quest for Glory: - I usually don't like playing of PC games back then because I mostly play my games on the consoles, but it was Hero's Quest that made me a fan. It was a quirky EGA game that includes fantasy, comedy, and an Antwerp that made me love this series from Sierra. R.I.P. Quest for Glory. Silent Hill: - Silent Hill was just one of those smart psychological horror games that I have come to love about a father losing his daughter out there in a crazy, deadly world. Since then, I have played every game in the series and can't wait to get my hands on a PlayStation 3 so I can play Silent Hill Homecoming. Wario: - This includes WarioWare and Wario Land/World. I was a bit of a late bloomer and never really paid much attention to this guy until Wario Land 4 when I finally realized how much I love this evil version of Mario. After that, I am now a huge fan of Wario and I love to play any game that has him in it. Honorable mentions are: Advance Wars: - I would like these series more if I was actually good at them. But that doesn't stop me from wanting to play the next Advance Wars title. Blue Moon forever! ![]() Castlevania: - Considering I was always a geek of Castlevania III, which basically took over my 9 year old young life. I have to thank Joyo for giving me a second chance at this series though it took me over nineteen years to start playing them again. Ouch! Dragon Knight: - Considering I only really have played Knights of Xentar and Dragon Knight 4, this is one of my favorite eroges because I love the humor and the characters. Magical Drop: - The most addictive puzzle game next to Tetris in my eyes. Magical Drop is like Puzzle Bobble on crack. I love how fast pace the game is and can be unforgiving if you're not quick. A shame that Data East went bankrupt. Mega Man: - Granted it took a song questioning the sexuality of Mega Man 2's Robot Masters that pique my interest for the Mega Man series. Then after that, I find myself actually playing and loving it even though I suck at it. Snowboard Kids: - Sadly after the pathetic attempt that was SBK: Snowboard Kids, I lost hope for this series and it was a shame because I was a huge fan of the Nintendo 64 and the PlayStation games before it. I just hope that Atlus would make the Snowboard Kids go back to their big nose roots. I am hoping to include Phantasy Star, Fire Emblem, and the Shining series onto this list once I start playing more games in the series. |

Blog Entries: 14 | Castlevania: I likes me some Metroidvanias. Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Suikoden: Some great RPGin'. DQ and FF have some nice side-games (Rocket Slime!) Kirby, Mario: Besides making for a number of solid platformers, these two have also done well in the "hay let's slap these characters into a ______* game for some cash Pokemon: Pokemon's a solid timewaster, and has some excellent side-series (Mystery Dungeon, Ranger). Starfy: A fun, easy little platformer. HONORABLE MENTION: I haven't played enough games from these series to call them a 'favorite', but the one (or, in some cases, two) games I've played made an impact: Eggerland, Klonoa, LocoRoco, Mother, Phoenix Wright, Pikmin, Puzzle Series |
