Red face Games you have DL'ed and regreted.

Title says it all. What games have you got thought would be good and you have DL'ed only to be disappointed.

Mine are -

Ristar - Thought this would be a nice little platformer, read reviews and heard it was good. When i got it i just thought it was clunky and slow.

1080 Snowboarding - Again, read the review, i knew about the hard learning curve and was prepared to see past that. Yet when i played it thought it wasn't that good at all.

Punchout - Great game, it really is. Yet i do kinda regret getting it as it is one of those games where it has no 'One more go factor' at all. But maybe thats just me.

Super R-type - Again a great game, but i found it no-where as near as good as the TG or 3rd game. Also it has terrible slowdown.

Lords of thunder - LOT is awesome, don't get me wrong. But is difficulty level just makes it not much fun to play overall.

Air Zonk - Loved bonk, and i love shooters so i got this. I found it was too short, too easy, and i teared through the game in no-time.

Anyway thats mine. I know it's alot but you can't win them all eh =\

Double Dragon
Sonic the Hedgehog 2, I had no idea how bad the borders were.
There are quite a few others but I can't remember what they are.

Though there are several games I downloaded and didn't like, that doesn't mean I regret getting them for all of the games I bought I wanted to try them out and see what I thought of them.

Punch Out! -- I don't like it. I don't think it's necessarily bad--it's just not my thing.

And the one everyone will disagree with...

Super Castlevania IV -- It's just like a modern Castlevania game...if you stripped it down to the platformer elements, added an obnoxious timer, a bad subweapon system, and made the character incredibly slow. Mind you, a pure platformer Castlevania in and of itself isn't necessarily bad--but it's not very interesting, either, and couple that with bad design, there's not very much to keep me playing it.

I totally agree on that one. I can't see how nearly everybody else loves this mediocre shooter.

Nearly everyone I've downloaded to be honest but thats not many anyway. mega man 2 i found to be boring and some of the levels were just frustrating not fun. honestly, i hate every nes game apart from smb 3. the music was so limited back then and the sprites were laughable. maybe the thing is im so used to seeing such great graphics and hearing such great sound playing these retro games just aint the same anymore. golden axe 2 i was slightly dissapointed by too coz i absolutely loved the 1st one when i was younger but its just no fun playing on your own but my mates never wanna play it if they're round. only gta 4 and halo 3 etc

Mega Man 2 is fantastic game IMO and it had the best soundtrack for a NES game ever.

I can see what you are saying however, alot of NES games are dated. Some real gems are also available on the VC for NES however such an excitebike and ninja gaiden etc These are game i would not have expected to like but love now.

Regrets on Downloads....hmmm....

Metroid. Was so excited I forgot i didn't like the original. Should have waited for Super Metroid.

Yoshi's Story. Absolutely horrible, though kind of okay in some respects. Definently could have used those 1000 points on something better.

Neutopia I & II. Not because they're bad, but between all the Zeldas I just haven't found the time to get into either of them.

I would add Castlevania but I don't regret it. I wanted it for nolstagia and even 20 years later, the game is just too darn hard. Again, should have gotten Super Castlevania IV which is still hard, but easier to jump. Jumping is absolutely impossible in the original.

Ninja Gaiden. Okay, but not amazing. Kinda bought it on a whim really. Least I got to see what it was all about. Really just a regular platformer with the ability to jump walls. Also there are some annoyances, like enemies taking over a ledge and giving you practically no room to jump.

Gunstar Heroes. Aside from some a few awesome sequences (Seven Force!), its more or less a standard shooter with a great weapon combination system.

Later Castlevania's copied Super Metroid. Super Metroid gameplay elements are certainly not a bad thing, but feel unoriginal in Castlevania. Castlevania's roots are in platforming, Metroid's are in exploration. Also, RPG elements are unnecessary in an action adventure title.

I agree about the bad sub weapons system and Simon's sluggish movement.

The timer isn't really obnoxious, they give you plenty of time to get through the level.

SCIV had awesome music, and awesome level design and gameplay elements (whip swinging, rotating rooms)

But...well...to each their own....
