I'm after another (first hand) GameCube controller for use on the Wii. Are the Nintendo models still sold by anyone or can anyone recommend a different brand? This one caught my eye - looks to be the same shape as the original and it is going for a decent price. What do you think? thanks, -m. // |

Attractive prices indeed, but I find that pretty much no Third-party controllers stand even ground with Nintendo's controllers, from the N64 or Gamecube. Try playing some Tournament-grade Smash Bros Melee with one, you'll find yourself severely disappointed.

my reward card... but reading Serge's reply I don't think I'll rush into it just yet. I found this on the nintendo store website- it's platinum! But they only ship within the US. Booo. NOE don't have a store do they? // Quote:
a look around and see what kind of prices the second hand ones are going for. Thanks. Also, how are they at a disadvantage? Do you find they are not as responsive or have a shorter life/ are less durable? -m. // |

Most aren't as responsive if you're doing complicated button combinations, or hitting them in quick succession. That or the Analog sticks feel funny. (I can't think of a better way to describe it-I got a Pelican Third Party controller when I first got the Cube, and Wave-Race just didn't handle the same, still not sure exactly what it was.)
Mind you, I could be wrong for some companies. It's not like I've tried them all, but this is merely what I've seen from my experiences.

When it comes to controllers price usually equals quality. Controllers are one of the things I never buy as third party. Just because I want the controllers to last longer, money don't grow on trees you know...well they are made of wood, but you get the picture.
Since Nintendo's controllers aren't usually THAT expensive I would simply buy the real deal. Why not a Wavebird? Goes well with N64 games on VC and it's wireless.

Wavebirds, jeez. I can't find any in stores anymore! I had to buy a wired one over the summer just because I couldn't find any Wavebirds, which are far superior for the Wii than the wired controllers.
