A few quick newbie questions!

1. Can I redownload my VC games in the event that I must reformat or get my wii repaired or something? If so, how many times?

2. In what increments can I buy wii points? Can I buy 1000? 2000? 3000? 4000?, etc. What payment methods are supported?

3. Can I buy wii points at home from my computer and get a code that I can input on my wii? I don't feel comfortable inputting a credit card number at the wifi hotspot where I will probably be downloading the games? I can't connect to VC at home due to my dialup connection being too slow.

Any general comments, FAQs, etc. appreciated too.

Well you can download up to 5000 points (50$) only with a credit card. with a points card I think only 2000

1. You can redownload any VC game as much as you want for free.

2. You can buy a Wii Points card (2000 Points) in a shop or...

3. you can use your credit card in the Wii Shop Channel to get 1000, 3000 or 5000 points.

What about if my Wii gets broken and needs to get replaced and I end up losing all the data saying that I can redownload my virtual console games?

If it does get broken then send it to Nintendo and tell them. I don't think they refund VC games if they replace the console. I'm not sure though. I think if they just fixed your console everythings ok. Try backing up your games on a SD card.

I read somewhere that VC games cannot be transferred to and from a SD card.

You can transfer the games just fine; you just can't play them on other Wiis than your own. The games are tied to your Wii via software registry.

If your Wii breaks you'll need to contact Nintendo, they can transfer your VC downloads to a new Wii so you'll be able to download them again on your new Wii.

Something I've wondered...
How do they know which shop channel account to transfer? Do they need your Wii Number or something?

No idea, maybe they do it from the serial number of the Wii. I have heard of people who have done it and got a replacement which works fine so it obviously works whatever they do.

My question is what happens when the warranty runs out? Will Nintendo still transfer your VC games to a new Wii (maybe if you give them your old one to prove that it doesn't work)?
