Default ESRB and Super Mario Lost Levels

While looking through the ESRB's web site, I noticed that they had removed Super Mario Lost Levels, but had replaced it with "Super Mario Bros II Japan" to go alongside "Super Mario Bros II USA". They list SMB2J as a "Nintendo" title, and SMB2USA as a Super Nintendo title. Weird, though I'm guessing the latter is a mistake. I guess they still intend to localize SMB2J though, so that's a good thing.

In a nutshell, I guess it means that there will be two Super Mario Bros II titles on the US Virtual Console, rather than renaming one as "Lost Levels". Nothing important to understand, just useless trivia for those keeping track (or those doing updates to upcoming pages).

Well this means they aren't bringing All-Stars out. Lost Levels (i.e. Super Mario Bros. 2 Japan) was the only 'new' content in that game and now they're localising the original NES version. Not bad

Yeah, I think CompactDestruction got it right. It would probably benefit (by which I mean be more profitable) Nintendo to issue a North American version of SMB2J than SMB All Stars as then they could continue to sell all the SMB games individually. If they released SMB All Stars, they might as well remove all the other individual SMB releases from the VC.

But to be fair, that's not a bad deal. Sure, we'd all rather get them packed into one VC release for our walet's sake but getting SMB2J on it's own as a full VC release is the next best thing. And this way, anyone who already owns any of the SMB releases that would otherwise be included w/ SMB All Stars won't feel completely jipped.

For most of us, SMB2J is a new/unreleased game & 500 Wii points is reasonable IMO for any worthwhile game on the NES. Hell, I pay that much just to have silly games on my cellphone..
