Only one dude died in First Blood? Huh. That is to say, I haven't seen it, so that's a surprise.

Rambo films suck. I hate the story and the action is always bleh.

Except with John Rambo. Story still sucks, but MAN WHAT AN END FIGHT!!!! I SO WANT THAT FILM OF BLU RAY JUST FOR THAT 20 MINUTE FIGHT!

Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof

I hoped after the mediocre Hostel and Kill Bill, Tarantino would go back to his roots. You know.. great films like Pulp Fiction, From Dusk Till Dawn, Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown.

Well, Death Proof's concept wasn't just "make a trashy B-movie".
It is a trashy B-movie all along from start to beginning.
And depth, storyline, actors... Just get the flan in the face!

Kurt Russell was such an interesting character when he first appeared,
but it's a dumb slaughtering of girls in car accidents.

This movie is forgettable.

2/10

There Will Be Blood

1894 ... a little town in the US deserts. Kids that found oil.
An oilman appears and wants it, betraying everyone.
Gives 5.000 $ for something that's worth 5.000.000.000 $.
Great acting, cameras, setting, soundtrack and storyline.
The best and most real movie about this case I have ever seen.
And there will be blood.

At least 8/10 - but I will watch it again.

I personally loved Kill Bill. Death Proof was indeed lacking though. If you haven't seen the other Grindhouse movie: Planet Terror, go see that one. It did the whole "campy" thing the way it was supposed to be done in the movie.

Also, I bet hundreds of people went to see There Will Be Blood expecting a Saw spinoff.

3:10 to Yuma
7/10 - I didn't care for the ending, and I questioned some of the character's motives throughout the movie, but still a good movie.

Yeah, I've seen Planet Terror... at least 10 times since I have a copy.
I already rated it here and you already answered me here (post-no #108 and #109).

The kids expecting a Saw-spinoff when watching There Will Be Blood had luck!
Instead of brainsucking torture-splatter they got a valuable semi-historical movie to think about.

And after watching Planet Terror so much and There Will Be Blood again, I'd like to rise both scores from 8 to 9. Both movies get better each time you watch them.

The Shadow - 9.4/10

I can't get enough of The Shadow. The radio show was fantastic and the movie does it justice, I think. Sure, there were some mistakes, but this is one of those movies that gets better as it goes.

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?

Cloverfield 5/10

Nice idea. But it's very short. And nothing is explained.
I want more. It just ends when I thought it would at least go on for an hour.
It's like the GBA-game Golden Sun.. it just ends in the middle. I think that's a cheap move by the director.
Also, the first half hour of the movie is just awful.

Shoot'em Up 4/10

If you like good and fast action (and nothing else) this is for you.

The whole thing the director wanted to do was leave you with the same amount of knowledge as the characters in the story. That amounts to not knowing anything throughout. Now do to fans kicking and screaming, they will have to either make a sequel, prequel, or a movie that takes place during the same event through the lens of a different person who witnessed other things.

The Godfather: 10/10
There is a reason The Godfather is considered one of movie's greatest achievements. Just go and see it if you haven't already.

I am Legend 5/10

After 30 mins I was shocked: It's a Zombie film!!
Cool, Zombies are a good thing!

But
a Zombie film
with just a handful of Zombies
in NEW YORK!??

Hello?????

New York + a Zombie here and there + a movie = 5/10

And it's not just that.
The zombies live all on one spot in one house and only come out at night. Who came up with such an idea? Genious!!
And Will Smith looking for survivors behaves like an *** when finally someone got his message (and even saved his life).

PRO's:
+ A deserted New York.
+ Fast and aggressive Zombies.
+ Will Smith stabs a knife in his ass.

CON's:
- The actors are bad.
- The story is even worse.
- The movie takes itself too serious...
- ...when it's full of dumb decisions.
- Lame ending.

Just saw Rambo, and...6.5/10

If you like the old ones or just like a bunch of graphic violence, then you'll like this one.

Now, I normally hate people who say "oh, you should read the book". But in this instance, I'm right with them. The ending of the book is, for want of a less lame pun, legendary - they butchered it to Hollywood-ise it for the big screen.

I implore you to read the book, but maybe leave it a good ten years so you can wipe the memory of the film's ineptitude from your mind and enjoy the book properly.

If you've seen the Vincent Price version (The Last Man on Earth) did that stick close to the source material? I've been wanting to pick up the book for a while.

I've not seen that one, no. I've just read the synopsis, though, and it differs again from the novel. Not as much as the recent Will Smith version though - seems a lot closer to the book, mind. The ending of neither the Smith version nor the Price one are as good as the book...

The book isn't very long, but it gripped me completely when I went on holiday once. I even forwent (the past participle of forgo?) a whole day's snowboarding just to sit in the hotel and read some more. If you've got a few hours free in your schedule, I heartily recommend it.

Karate Kid Part II
Well, a lot of it was the exact same thin as the last one. And the music wasn't as cool, But the fighting kicked three letter word that's a synonym for butt. The beginning fight between the two senseis was cool but pointless. And the whole lack of characters from the last movie. (Daniel's mom and girlfriend, who aparently breaks up with him at the beginning) annoys. There's definitely some cheesiness here, but the special effects are actually pretty good for the 80s. However, the whole romantic subplot was pointless and annoying.
7/10 for not as awful as I heard the third one is

"Wax on, wax off..."

Ya, and then there's 'The Next Karate Kid' after Part III which I heard is even worse.

Children of Men - 6.5/10

Flawed storyline. Half the movie consists of the main characters just running away from the government. Also, the movie is supposed to take place in 2027, yet a lot of things look the same. Instead of getting creative, it just seems like the makers wanted to keep everything the same and not even try to make it look futuristic.

It's not a bad movie, the human interest story is quite interesting, but it could've been better.

I just watched A Knight's Tale the other night with Mrs. Yogurt. R.I.P. Heath.

On one hand, the film is fun, has a hilarious soundtrack (David Bowie can make any movie better), and features a couple of my favourite actors (Heath and James Purefoy), so it gets big points for that. On the other hand, the movie is actually a really sappy teenage romantic comedy disguised as one of those underdog come-back sports movies like Mighty Ducks (ugh...) or Rocky (whee!).

Because it has redeeming kitsch, Bowie, Heath, and Purefoy, it lands in around the 7/10 mark.

Saw Blade Runner last night. 8/10. This Sci-fi cyberpunk action film is often underappreciated by people when watched but i found it to be very good. The plot's complexity (for which i won't go into too much detail over because of it) is quite well done and the film has a certain mystery to it, particularly over the main character Rick Deckard, played by Harrison Ford.

I saw Semi-Pro on Friday, Its pretty good, about a quotable as 'Anchorman'.

Will Ferrel isn't really straying away from the 'Good hearted idiot' role, or movies in which he plays one. Maybe thats a good thing, he does play them hilariously.

Blade Runner isn't too underrated; it's developed a rather large fan base over the years. The prominence of the visuals and the soundtrack is what makes the film special in my opinion.

Oh never mind, I see what you meant now by underappreciated.

The Director's Cut is by far the most common nowadays, since I don't think the theatrical version was ever put onto DVD (if it's on DVD, it's only a recent development). I've heard from a few people that the DC is not as good as the original version. Fortunately, I have a copy of the original version on VHS.

Original U.S. theatrical version - the first version released in the U.S., with a 'happy ending' instead of the Director's cut ending. Also, has an awful voice-over by Harrison Ford that the studio forced him to do.
International theatrical version - same as U.S. only more violent scenes

Workprint - An unofficial and very uneven cut of Blade Runner including new and different scenes

Director's Cut - Official Director's cut by Ridely Scott, removes the voiceover and happy ending from the theatrical cut.

Final Cut - My personal favorite cut of the film, includes everything in the Director's Cut but with cleaned-up special effects, some brief scenes from the workprint, etc.

The Director's Cut was the only version availible on DVD until three brand-new DVD sets were released Dec. 18, 2007.

Phew! So, those are the different versions of Blade Runner in a nutshell.

Also just watched The Shining and Donnie Darko and both get an 8/10.

The Shing is an excellent psycologically thriller and Donnie Darko is a strange, but thought-provoking story of time-travel, alternate universes, etc. Both movies have unparalled depth and will have you thinking about them days after you've seen them. Highly recommended for thinkers.

I saw the original. Though I wish I had seen the director's cut because I hear it contains a better explanation of the events. I had to read the IMDB FAQs to understand the ending.

I just watched the unrated DVD version of American Gangster tonight with Mrs. Yogurt. Excellent film. First-rate acting, plot, etc. Then again, I love crime dramas set in the recent past (this one was last '60s to early '70s). 9/10 on the Yogurt scale.

I thought American Gangster was good, but didn't have any really distinct scenes or dialouge that make it very memorable, especially when it's compared to other crime movies like Godfather and Goodfellas.

The last movie I saw I think was Cloverfield. I waited months for that title, and while it's ending I feel came too quickly, I'm proud to hear of a second being done. Afterall, people don't realize the first was pretty much evidence people had found. I'd give it a 9/10.

Tonight I'm watching Hitman the movie, oh I hope it gave the game justice.
