To Catch a Thief (7.5/10):
The cat burglar (Cary Grant) ended his career 15 years ago. Now some copy-cat is loose snatching away precious jewelery. The police suspects the retired "cat" and while trying to hide he attemps to catch the immitator himself.
Good Hitchcock movie with some nice twists.

Remember Me...6/10

My wife wanted to see this but I actually enjoyed it a bit more than I thought I would. Pattinson is far better than in his Twilight role and the ending is a bit of a surprise in terms of the setting.

Meet The Spartans...5/10

So stupid its kind of funny. As far as spoofs of late go (Date Movie, Epic Movie, etc.) this one is actually one of the better ones.

Little Shop of Horrors [1960] (4.5/10):
Compared to the 80's musical adaption starring Rick Moranis, Steve Martin etc. this old version doesn't hold up well. Not even the darker ending and the short appearance by a young Jack Nicholson (his part was played by Bill Murray in the remake) make this movie memorable. Skip it and rather watch the musical version by Frank Oz.

The Muppet Movie (6/10):
..or how Kermit the Frog signed his "rich & famous" contract in Hollywood.
Quite an ok movie with lots of cameos by e.g. Orson Welles, Steve Martin, Mel Brooks, Telly Savalas, Bob Hope etc.
Worth mentioning is the fact that Tim Burton makes one of his first feature movie experiences as puppeteer in here, though he doesn't appear in the credits.

Sydney White.....8/10
This was a very cute movie with like-able characters...a new take on the Snow White tale...Amanda Bynes is also in this and I have yet to find a movie with her in it that sucked.

Waxwork (6/10):
The showcases of famous horror icons in a mysterious Waxwork require human blood to walk the earth. A bunch of teenagers falls victim to them one after another.
I've seen this movie for the first time quite a while ago. The only memories I had were John Rhys-Davies turning into a fuzzy werewolf & Marquis de Sade whipping the s*** out of some girl. The movie is in fact quite fun and has some wacky ideas and neat references (a short Audrey II cameo ). Except for some moments of gore the movie is pretty tame in the horror department though. I would consider it a neat nice 80's obscurity.
You gotta love horror-movies that use "It's my Party" as credits-song.

Hairspray [1988] (7.5/10):
Ever since I watched the recent musical-remake I wanted to see the original. It turned out to be pretty good actually and everything about this movie practically shouts "turn me into a musical".
In the second half the movie gets kinda clumsy on some occasions. I don't mind the increase in violence during the racial unrest, but the whole "bomb in hairdo" bit is too silly for my taste.

Oh... and it's my post Nr.666 btw

The sequel is even funnier than the original. Bruce Campbell is a riot.

Bad Company (2002).....9/10
This was a very good movie. Don't know how I missed this back then seeing how I like Chris Rock comedy and Anthony Hopkins is one of my favorite actors. Give this one a go (and this is not the movie with the same title starring Laurence Fishburn)

Inception (9.5/10):
Wow... great movie with more layers than a wedding cake.
I won't say anymore cause I want to keep this free of spoilers, but I would like to talk to somebody who saw this movie because I have sensed some logical problems in some Ken Watanabe/Marion Cotillard related scenes.

Oldboy (8/10):
A man gets abducted from the street while drunk. He finds himself imprisoned by unknown captors in a room. After 15 years he is set free and he tries to locate the responsible people with the intention of getting a straight answer to the question: why?
The movie is really well shot and has lots of memorable scenes. The plot is exciting & unpredictable, but seems to drag along a bit at some moments. Some of the occasional violent outbursts seem redundant aswell, since they don't add anything to the movie.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack(movie) - As the Ending chapter in the original Gundam saga, it was pretty good. It tied up a number of loose ends, and Amuro, Captain Bright, and Char are all in top form. Not mention the Mecha were some of the best I've ever seen in the series, and there was a lot of attention to detail in the animation. To put it simply, it was a fitting ending for such a great series.

As a Movie, though, it could've been a lot better. The characters were poorly fleshed out, and it leaves as many questions as it does answers. The plot moves far too fast and skips around too much, making it very difficult to follow. Apparently it was based on a novel, and they tried to put too much into the movie, yet still it wasn't enough. Honestly, this shouldn't have been a movie, it should've been a series in and of itself, even if it's just an OVA. I might have to read the novel now, just to make sense of what I just watched.

Mobile Suit Gundam F91 (Movie) - I got this one along with Char's Couterattack just to get a discount on shipping, and I'm actually very glad I got it. As a movie, it faired a lot better than CCa, with better characterization and a well-paced plot (though it does skip around a lot towards the middle making an entire third of the movie nigh incomprehensible). It was also very good story in and of itself, with great characters some powerful emotional moments, and at least somewhat believably evil badguys. Oh, and the Mechs and animation were all top-notch as well. My only real quams with the movie are that A) it wasn't a full series, not only because it would've made a much better closing chapter in the U.C. Universe than Victory Gundam did, but also because B) The movie didn't have a real ending. It just said "This is not the End" and then the credits roll. If you want to know the rest of the story, you gotta read the novels and the sequel Manga.

King Arthur (5/10):
Arthur is a roman knight stationed at the northern border of the occupied britain. Together with his knights he is supposed to perform one last task before their service ends and the roman troops leave the country for good.
This movie is based on historical facts and theories and.....wtf? Is that guy over there seriously wielding a katana? Forget this s***!
This movie shows clearly that facts & myth don't mix very well, in fact the movie is quite a mess indicating how wobbly all those "Real King Arthur" theories are.
The movie has some nice aesthetic shots, but in the end it's very mediocre. You'll probably forget that you ever watched it in about the same time as it takes to sit through it.

Predator-Special:
I haven't seen the first two movies in quite a while. Since I got my hands on some uncut DVD's of oth both movies, I'll check them out.

Predator (8/10):
Plot: Arnie and some marine pals get hunted down by an alien in a central-american jungle.... duh!
Actually the movie is better than I remembered it to be. Arnold does a decent job as actor, the camerawork is good and the movie is still pretty exciting. It might have some moments of sillness e.g. everybody joins in shooting the shrubbery without actually knowing what to aim for while looking dead serious or the predators maniacal laughter (it's contangious) but in the end it's still a fine movie.

Predator 2 (6/10):
This time around the predator faces of against Danny Glovers rendition of Dirty Harry in downtown L.A. This movie would work a lot better if it weren't for the title, since the script puts up lots of effort to cloak the presence of the predator in a gang war plot, but sadly it doesn't make much sense since you know whats going on from the beginning. At some point the director seemed to have realized it aswell and therefore he doesn't hide his alien anymore. The script seems to pick'n'mix from every action movie, since we got lots of clichés and copycat scenes in there e.g.: an annoying report getting punched on the nose (Yippie-Ya-Yeah!), the line "Now it's personal", near the end are two scenes that re-enact parts from Alien (the air duct scene) & Aliens (the massacre of the marines) amongst lots of others. It almost seems like the author wanted to make a homage/spoof (not sure which) of action movies in general.
Overall it's not a bad flic and the prop-guys "Alien"-bust in the background brought us the (in)famous AvP-Franchise with it's decent games an horrible movies.

The most epic scene in Arnie's '80s oeuvre is the "ooooooooooooooooooh" war cry.

Haha... sure is representative for the era

Kick-Ass (8.5/10):
What a delightful superhero action movie which doesn't take itself too serious.
Also good to see that there are still newer movies around in which Nicholas Cage doesn't suck. Only some of the sfx look rather cheap and the story is rather predictable (if you semi-spoof comics, you tend to put in the usual clicheés aswell).
But overall a very good movie.

Astroboy (6/10):
I'll skip the summary and get right to the point here.
The main flaw of this movie is the fact that it targets a very young audience. They removed most of the philosophical depth of the source material to make more room for puns and gags of mixed quality. But the biggest mistake is the lack of emotion during the whole death/creation/rejection-part right at the beginning, since Tenmas loss, his grief and his feelings towards Astro never seem clear enough for the audience to care. Instead we get a villain who's more of a random pun-dispenser and more "funny" sidekicks as we could have ever wanted. The art-style and animation gets the job done, but won't blow your mind.
Overall not a bad movie, but far from the standards mostly set by Pixar.

Clash of the Titans [2010] (4/10):
Ok, it looks kinda pretty, but thats about it. The script is bad and Sam Worthington could have easily been replaced by an inanimate, soulless carbon rod and nobody would have seen the difference. The acting is generally really poor.
In the end it didn't annoy me as much as Prince of Persia did, but the 1981-Version is far better than this rubbish.

The Wolfman [2010] (5.5/10):
I always liked Werewolf-movies but sadly most of them aren't very good. This ones main merit are it's visuals which recreate a similar atmosphere as the original from 1941. But sadly the movie tends to drag along and it gets rather boring after a while. Some scenes, like the Asylum-part are very enjoyable though. Also they make a major mistake by showing the werewolf off in the first couple of minutes which sabotages their attempt to make the movie exciting.

Piranha 3D (2/10) — Doesn't get "so bad it's good" credit because it actually tries for it rather than getting it unintentionally. No plot, **** characters. It gets one point for Jerry O'Connell's hilarious acting, and one point for tons of huge fake tits. I didn't even think it was that scary or corny, since all of the scary or corny stuff that was going to happen was always obvious and there was nothing at stake but a bunch of nameless piranha fodder, but YMMV.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (9/10):
Man, I really enjoyed this film, it's surprisingly faithful to the comic and surprisingly funny! After Inception it's probably my favorite film of the year. The visual effects and sound track are fantastic, and most of the actors do a great job. Like the comics it's full of video game references (including awesome use of music from Zelda), and the story itself plays out like a video game mixed with an ADD fueled, surreal, nerdy High Fidelity. It's been awhile since I've had this much fun watching a film!

That said, this film is going definitely not for everyone. It's not the hipster-fest it's made out to be, but It's hard to appreciate the style, characters, music, and references unless you're tuned into the movies particular frequency. It's almost painful how much of the movie is made to appeal to nerds, indie rock fans, and gamers who remember the 80's. That said I totally loved it.

Shrek: 4-ever after (6.5/10):
Not as bad as the horrible third part, but not quite as good as the first and second installment either.

Departed (9/10):
Awesome suspense movie!
Costigan (Leo DiCaprio) works as a police-rat in a syndicate lead by Costello (Jack Nicholson). But Costello got a rat (Matt Damon) at the police HQ himself.
Nice twists and an epic performance by Nicholson.

Brendan et le secret de Kells [The Secret of Kells] (9/10):
Okami was a great example how stylized visuals can make a video game truly beautiful to behold. This movie is the equivalent of this effect in animated fiction.
While being highly stylized, the movie has an amazing beauty to it which alone makes it worth watching. It tells the story of Brendan how grows up under the supervision of his uncle, who happens to be the Abbot of Kells. But the abbey is in danger due to plundering vikings who approach Kells. One day a mysterious old Illuminator appears in the cloister who is said to write a book of divine beauty and he asks Brandon to aid him. Soon the boy is about to leave the monastary for the first time in his life, realizing that the pagan-myths aren't as far fetched as he thought.
PS: If you intend to watch it with your little'uns, be aware that the movie has some quite dark moments aswell.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid (6/10):
This movie pretty much exploits every clicheé about the life in an american middle school. But everything has been done by multiple comedy-shows before. It would have been a much nicer movie if they would have sticked to the scribbly stickman-style as seen in several short scenes, because it would have made the movie kinda "Peanuts"-like.
Overall good for a laugh or two, but nothing exeptional.

A Perverts Guide to Cinema (7/10):
This is not really a movie, but a 3-part documentary about movies. S. Zizek (philosoph/psychoanalyst) deciphers David Lynch movies, explains why Harpo Marx is the "It", why our libido needs illusions and explains why the worst conceivable nightmare is a defect toilet flush.
Fun to watch even though it's sometimes hard to follow his explanations and theories.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs...7/10

I actually quite enjoyed this movie. The humour is of the absurdist type and a lot of the gags are perhaps better picked up on by adults but its still a lot of fun for the kids too. Casting NPH as the talking monkey Steve was a plus.

Forbidden Kingdom.....6/10
I guess this was okay for what it was, but the effects were goofy and the plot reminded me too much of Neverending Story (awesome movie, btw) with an Asian twist.

Watching Jet Li pee in Jackie Chan's mouth was pretty cool.

Hot Tub Time Machine (6.5/10):
Entertaining movie, but they should have left all those silly fart, barf, pee, etc. jokes out.

Abbott & Costello meet Frankenstein (7.5/10):
I really enjoyed watching this. Lon Chaney, Bela Lugosi, Vincent Price are all in it

Wolf Blood (6/10):
The oldest conserved Werewolf (silent-)movie. Two rivaling lumber-companys have their camps close to each other in the canadian wilderness. A bunch of goons beat up the chargehand of the opposing camp. The camps's doctor can safe him with a blood-transfusion, but since there are no volunteers he takes a wolf instead.

Häxan [Witchcraft through the ages] (7/10):
This old danish silent movie tries to be a documentary about witches on one side, but also displays all the clicheès. It might be the only movie containing devil-butt kissing women and mad nuns at the same time
It's still interesting to watch today due to the costume design and the rather nicely done special effects.

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World 7/10 I actually liked the begining of this film which I hear a few people hated, however some of the ex's were more entertaining than others (like Lucas Lee).

8/10 for me. I loved it and enjoyed picking up on all the little and not so little game references.

The Crazies [2010] (6/10):
While it would technically not qualify as a zombie-movie, I would still count it as one. While it is exciting on some occasions, it doesn't have much to make it stand out of the crowd (maybe except that hilarious car-wash sequence).
Overall acceptable, but nothing special.

One, Two, Three (7/10):
The 1960's: The boss of the west-berlin branch office (James Cagney) of the Coca Cola company tries to make a deal with russia across the iron curtain. Meanwhile the 17-years old daughter of Atlantas head honcho, while on visit, sneaks into east berlin and marries a idealistic communist.
To keep his job he is forced to either negate the wedding or turning her husband into a model citizen (from a capitalistic point of view ).
Fun to watch, especially the second half is filled with fast paced gags and slapstick.

Madea Goes to Jail (Movie).....9/10
This was a really good drama movie. I was expecting more comedy and more appearances of Madea would have been nice, but it was still good.

Troll (4/10):
I expected something far worse than this. It's certainly a bad movie, but it got lots of (un)intentional humor and seems to be made in self-awareness.
A Bonus-point for Sonny Bono getting transformed into shrubbery and for having Harry Potter

Fire & Ice (5.5/10):
Acceptable animation-take on Conan by R.Bakshi. The story doesn't offer much but the animation is mostly quite good, especially on the main characters. Sadly the quality sometimes dwindles and it seems rather sloppy.

Les Triplettes de Belleville [The Triplets of Belleville] (7/10):
Strange animation movie about an old woman whos grandson (a cyclist) gets abducted by the french mafia. She follows them to Belleville (a New York knock-off) and gets the help of the semi-senile members of a once famous music-trio, "The Triplettes".
Strange sense of humor, but also strangely appealing movie.

Its a nice movie pretty well done from the Manga.
There is some from the manga (& anime) like one of the changes would actally explain how Light manages to get in on the investigation team & other changes.

Iron Man 2 (7.5/10):
Roundabout keeps the quality of the first part. It feels more like an action-comedy movie, rather than a superhero movie though.

Blindness (6.5/10):
People suddenly go blind and get stuffed in a guarded quarantine facility, soon anarchy reigns. But one amongst them lied and still has the ability to see.
Interesting idea & the movie makes me want to read the book. Sadly the pacing of the movie isn't the best.

The Quiet Earth (6/10):
A awakens in the morning and soon realizes that all of mankind seem to have vanished overnight. Might an experiment of his institute be responsible?
Nice idea and well performed, but it kinda drags along occasionally. It's still worth watching.

Ikiru (8/10):
Two years before the rise of Godzilla, Toho produced this Akira Kurosawa directed movie.
Our Protagonist has been working as civil clerk all his life, mostly shuffeling files to other departments. All until he finds out that hes gonna die of cancer somtime during the next months. Soon he realizes he wasted his life and after learnt to deal with it he gets an idea. On his furneral his colleagues start dicussing his strange behaviour and soon uncover what it was all about.
Very worthwhile movie.

The book is really good. I love his writing voice, though, so I think even his books that aren't executed as well as his others are still well worth reading. This is one of his better books, though (but not his best). The film is relatively faithful to the book. I don't know whether the pacing would be bothersome to you as you read it since that's a different medium than film, but overall I think it works well. I understand José appreciated the film when he saw it.

This may be my favorite film of all time. Am not sure...it's certainly a candidate though. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I don't know a whole lot of people who have seen it.

Astroboy...6/10

It is a nice looking film and doesn't overstay its welcome but I found it just didn't have the spark of the original series. Wish his "brother" who flew around in a giant crystal was in it.

the Spirit...2/10

What a piece of cinematic crap. Horribly overacted, dreadfully underwritten, this is one comic book film that fails miserably. Hell, even Catwoman looks great compared to this. Sure the film is visually gorgeous (hence the 2 stars I gave it) but that is not enough to make it worthwhile.

Scott Pilgrim vs the World (8/10):
Fun ride, lots of nerd-fanservice and overall a very entertaining movie. But still it's not quite en par with Wrights previous movies (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead).

Mississippi Burning (7/10):
1964, three civil-rights activist vanish. Two FBI Agents (W.Dafoe & G.Hackman) get assigned to the case. Though both use different methods to gain information, they both get in serious trouble since the local Ku-Klux-Clan members try to block their efforts to solve the crime.

Expendables: 7/10 Sometimes the action was going so fast it was hard to tell what was going on, the director decided to use the shaky cam technique (which is a bad idea 90% of the time) and it tries to hard.

However it was a fun movie overall.

There rereleasing Back To The Future in cinemas for 25th anniversary, it would be kind of sad if the best movie I saw at the cinema was a film released 25 years ago even if that film is Back To The Future

Conan the Barbarian (6/10):
My previous attempts to watch this movie suffered from the fact that I fell asleep halfway through, only to regain consciousness at the very end.
Now I finally managed to stay awake during the movie and it isn't as bad as I expected. It has a nice overall style & a pretty great soundtrack and managed to entertain me quite well.

Conan the Destroyer (4.5/10):
While my rating might seem low, this movie isn't really THAT bad. But it doesn't really qualify as a mediocre movie either, since the plot has more holes than a swiss-cheese and the acting is really poor (In CtB, they at least gave Arnie as little dialog as possible).
But the movie still manages to entertain through it's ditzyness like e.g. the final showdown where Arnie fights that whimsical suit-mation monster which would rather fit into a Godzilla movie (and even then would seem pretty pathetic) or Grace Jones as amazon (she has the best gags).

Thumbs up

Goeman (2009): 8.5/10
Great action movie with a lot of CGI-fragments. Storywise it's ok, takes place
during a historic event of Japan. The costumes may be over the top, but that
didn't bother me at all. Action scenes were great looking, CGI was blended in
well. Directed by Kazuaki Kiriya, who also made Casshern.
A recommendation if you're into these kind of movies.

I don't know how many rednecks you guys are, but this was a really good fishing movie. Took me by surprise...plus Bill Engvall is like the funniest redneck ever!
