You're actually confusing that lame movie with Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, which is the now-and-forever champ of that genre.

anyways,

Hatchet - 7/10
Eraserhead - 7/10
Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb - 7/10
Futurama: The Beast with A Billion Backs - 6/10
My Best Friend is A Vampire - 6/10
Hard Boiled - 8/10

Does it seem seriously dumbed down like Bender's Big Score? I was hoping that was just an anomaly.

And how do you not love Dr. Strangelove!? That's one of my favorite movies!

And ah yes- Forrest Gump-8/10. Not particuarly impactive, but thourghly entertaining and fairly funny.

Actually, the second futurama movie is a step in the right direction, but the plot is so dumb that it killed the rest of the movie once the "twist" or whatever you want to call it is revealed.

Dr. Strangelove was a good movie. I just expected a great movie, something on par with Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I thought it be like Peter Sellers in Murder By Death but it wasn't at all. I only laughed once, and it was a part I knew before hand. ("Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the war room!")

Death Note - 9/10 (freakin' epic movie)

Finally dragged my dumb ass out to the theater and saw

Iron Man. 8/10. Really great, for all the reasons that have already been mentioned a thousand times. Everything about the film is solid, and then Robert Downey Jr.'s performence elevates the whole thing to the level of excellence. Certainly one of the top Marvel films, on the level of Spider-Man 2 and X2.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. 3/10. Yeah, sorry, I really didn't like it at all. The CGI ruined the organic excitement and stuntwork that the originals had, the sci-fi plot was a bad fit for the franchise, and there was just no humanity to the thing. The performences were on the level of an Indy-based SNL sketch rather than an actual film. Cate Blanchett was fun to watch though.

Little Miss Sunshine - 8.5/10

Seen it before, but I watched it again since I loved it so much the first time. Really light indie comedy with some fantastic performances from the likes of Steve Carell and Alan Arkin.

Hey =]

Sektor here and I have not done this in a long time =\

Anyway,

A Nightmare on Elm Street 1, 2 and 3.

Nightmare On Elm Street
I love horrors and I was told this was a classic. I'd heard of this film, who doesn't know them =p Anyhow this film was not great =\ it was awesome. First off the acting is so bad its good, and considering the time this film was made it is acceptable. It was quite spooky too and freddy lived up to being damn scary. It's a classic and the funny parts, for example in alot of the chase scenes the way the characters run is just funny and the way freddy stretches his arms to scare somebody just makes the whole thing better.

8/10

Nightmare On Elm Street 2
I was told this was not as good as the first one but I actually enjoyed it more, i thought it was more creepy than the first and also just overall done alot better.

9/10

Nightmare On Elm Street 3
This one I thought was the worst, it was ok overall but i did find bits of it just silly and i thought it was more of a 'hack and slash' than the other two.

7/10

Daddy Day Camp
This movie was a sequel to eddie murphy's 'Daddy Day Care'. The first one wasnt the best and this one was no oscar winner either. There was some funny parts and as much as i like cuba gooding jr, it was an average movie.

There Will Be Blood: 9/10

This is easily the best movie I've seen all year. Danial Day Lewis is one of the greatest actors on the planet and his performance in this movie only helps his cause.

I don't know what to say about this movie. It reminds me of so many other movies but it captures only the good from those movies.

Godzilla, King of the Monsters- 5.5/10

I want to rate this higher, but I understand that campy vibe doesn't appeal to everyone. The plot is rather disjointed and uninteresting (the American version, at least), but the apperances by Godzilla are impressive for the era and honestly rather edge of the seat. The ending is fairly good too. That said, the English dubbing is infamously awful (in contrast, though, Raymond Burr is actually very good) and you don't actually see Godzilla until half way through the film.

I still love it though, for that campy vibe I mentioned earlier. Not my favoirte Godzilla flick (Godzilla Raids Again) but a worthy member of my DVD collection. It's a spiffy boxset, I gotta say.

WALL-E:

Pixar has done it yet again with WALL-E. This was by far the most adorable movie I have ever seen. I'm still not sure how Pixar got some of the characters to express so many powerful emotions when all robots have to show are their eyes. Also, Pixar managed to make every frame of WALL-E a visual masterpiece. The movie is beautiful the whole way through. I don't want to delve into any story elements but I can gurantee you that you will love this movie. My only quarrel with the movie is that it ended so quickly. I suppose kids get fidgety sitting for more than an hour but I just wanted it to go on and on. One of Pixar's best if not the best and one of my favorite movies of all time. Go see it.

I have a soft spot for Pixar.

Edit: WALL-E is also one of the few movies I have seen that could do so much with so little. The first 30 or so minutes are devoid of dialog. If you have seen any of say, Charlie Chaplin's work you will know why this is special.

I'd say he's being honest. Wall-E is getting some of the best reviews of any movie in recent years.

Wall-E looks absolutely amazing; I'm probably more excited to see that than any other summer film besides Dark Knight. Pixar has an incredible track record and they deserve all the props they get.

Anyway, just saw

The Visitor. 9/10. This is a very quiet, understated chracter drama and as such it might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I found it fascinating. If you saw the Station Agent with Peter Dinklage a few years back, and liked it, definitely see this. The subject matter is political but the film is not; it never preaches or insults your intelligence.

10,000 BC. 5/10. Roland Emmerich remains the master of sweeping, epic-feeling adventure films that, for some reason, you just can't bring yourself to care about. But, with low enough expectations, you might actually enjoy this. It's silly and historically absurd and the story is paint-by-the-numbers but it moves at a brisk pace and almost works as low-brow, totally forgettable, escapist entertainment.

Last movie I watched was Pokémon 10: The Rise of Darkrai. I´d give at least 8/10. Even though these movies are similar to eachother they're still enjoyable.

And for some reason I find them more touching than other movies I´ve seen. They make me react/feel like I don´t usually do when watching movies. Not this much.

Tales of Earthsea

I went in with low expectations due to mixed reactions, and that was probably the best thing to do. I enjoyed it, but had I gone in expecting a 10/10 Ghibli classic I would've been underwhelmed. A fairly decent start for Goro Miyazaki but he has a long way to go to match his father's work.

Ok Guys i just finished watching the rest of the nightmare on elm street films and here are my verdicts =]

The reviews for the first 3 I have posted here a few posts back if your interested....

A Nightmare On Elm Street 4
So after the 3rd film being a little disappointing i really wanted the films to pick up again here. Did this film live up to the others..... NO, IT DIDN'T. I thought this film was stupid. It was very cheesy, more stupid than the 3rd and felt more like a filler than the 4th installment. I mean there were some nice effects sure, but the film itself was a joke.

6/10

A Nightmare On Elm Street 5
Ohhh man..... I'm not going to even bother, this sucked just as much as the 4th. Did they try and make this film funny... =\ I mean it was good how they tried to show you some of freddys past sure, but the film itself sucked.

4/10

A Nightmare On Elm Street 6
So this is the final nightmare huh =\ It was better than 4 and 5 for sure. And yes it was a good film the only thing that let it down was that it was boring, just damn boring =\ Ohh and it gets a 7 because it has a power glove sequence, and freddy says 'NOW YOUR PLAYING WITH POWER'. I would give it a 6, but just for that, it gets a 7 XD

7/10

A Nightmare On Elm street 7/ Wes Cravens New Nightmare
Ok so this film i had NO expectations for... After 4 and 5 sucked and 6 was 'meh' I thought this film would be a joke. The fact the entire film was based around the real world and the real life actors I thought would be kinda silly. Ohh boy was I wrong... This is the best nightmare film and dare I say it, 'One of the best horror films I have ever seen'... No...wait... 'One of the best films i have ever seen'. I am not kidding, This was just awesome. The idea was pulled of beautifully, the effects were fantastic, it was never funny [which is good, this is horror] and I was loving the new Freddy look, freddy looked awesome. This new 'modern' freddy was alot better than the old one. Also I thought the story was gripping, it had a great underlying message and it wasn't weird and stupid like the others. Even if you don't like horror, see this film, its damn well flipping awesome.

10/10

I'll have to see New Nightmare now after reading your review.

Just to let you know, though... many of those horror movies from the '80s are supposed to be funny. For some reason the genres seemed to go hand-in-hand a lot back then (this was, of course, before the rise of freaky psychological Japanese import horror and visceral gore horror (I'll coin the term "gorror") like Saw and Hostel). The same is true of the Friday the 13th movies and even the first Halloween.

Two movies:

Lord of the Rings: 9/10. Downright entertaining. Makes me want to go watch the sequels, which I will do when I get around to it. It seems everyone on earth except me has seen these movies, so I shouldn't have to talk them up.

Cruel Intentions: 7/10

Entertaining, the main characters are definently cruel, that's for sure. Not bad, but not brilliant at the same time.

This week I will probably watch more movies.

Also; anyone know if the 2006 Gamera movie was given any type of international release? I'm in the mood for something monster-y.

I doubt to be honest the nightmare films were trying to be funny. I can understand that there were some horrors that were but these weren't. You can tell, they tried to make it scary, and failed.... really....really... failed =p

On the other hand, new nightmare is amazing. =]

The Happening-3/10
Awful. Bad acting, cheesy premise and complete lack of gore. Why was this rated R?
Only scary part was I was the only person watching it at the time. Don't see the Happening.

Enchanted- 2/10
My family was enticed by the high rating it got on Rotten Tomatoes. Enchanted was so boring and cheesy and retarded, that halfway through tne movie, I got bored and went to go watch America's Most Wanted. Enchanted was that bad.

The King of Kong- 9/10
The story was slow to start, but once it got going, you'll love it. Great for gamers or anyone that likes movies.

Gone Baby Gone- 9/10
An awesome action thriller with plenty of plot twists and a surprise ending. A great story with good action scenes and terrific acting, A must watch for anyone.

Wall-E 10/10 Quirky and surprisingly deep for Pixar. Fun, with great music, SFX and graphics. You'll love it, your kids will love it, your ex will love it, and your dead cat Doodles will love it. Go see it, now, as this is quite possibly Pixar's best work.

Nah. New Nightmare excepted, the originals were definitely trying to inject humour. Especially the later ones (4-5). The only reason it seems that bad is because it's '80s humour, and as we all know, almost nothing was good in the '80s.

Hmm.. maybe 4-5 were but i don't see why they would try and make horrors funny.

I thought 1,2 and 3 were reasonable.

And teh 80's rocked XD

I think.....

I'm with you on how much the 80s rocked, but the NOES series was going for comedy here and there in the later instalments. At some point, the producers decided that a guy who could kill you in your dreams was a joke and they tried to turn it into one. It happened with the F13 series as well. After pt. 6, Jason became gimmicky (let's have him fight a psychic, let's put him on a boat, let's put him on a boat in spaaaaaaaaace) and the audience isn't meant to take it seriously anymore.

I hate it when I hear bad reviews because "some characters are so annoying, the kills are cheered for". In my household, that's the way it's always been. The teens are the evil encroaching villains. Jason's the hero, the one you root for.

And I don't get why anyone would think the first Halloween attemted being humorous. Damn near all 8 of those movies have been straight up horror. Some of the latter ones were just flat-out bad. (excluding H20)

Hmm I see what your on about. Still the 'funny' ones are just stupid, kinda spoil the series huh =\

Remember when Michael Myers is wearing a sheet with glasses over them? Visual comedy and dramatic irony. Hilarious. And then Jamie Lee Curtis thinks her friend is making out while on the phone. Hilarious. In fact, that's an iconic horror-comedy scene.

I watched 3 movies with the little one over the last couple days.
They were:

Surf's Up: 10/10 I really enjoyed this movie, it was way better then expected and the style and story were different then any animated movie I've seen.

Ratatouille: 9/10 I also enjoyed this movie. I didn't think I would like it but it really came together.

Babe: 10/10 I saw this many many years ago but watched it again with my son. He loved it! This was his pick out of the three.

I also watched
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End: 6/10 I was let down by this movie. I liked the first 2 but this one didn't do it for me.

Saw WALL-E last week and I agree. It is an amazing film. A must see in theaters because of the visual beauty.

10/10

You're taking what I said slightly out of context. I should have been clearer. Yes, there were some funny parts, but never in the series has the entire movie been ridiculous like NOES. (obvious exceptions include Halloween parts 3 and 8.)

Hancock

This superhero will not beat spiderman,Ironman or The hulk, he is not the next best superhero and this movie is doesn't match up to marvel superhero movies. What it does do however in the 1 hour and 52 mins it plays for is make you roar out with laughter. It's a really good film despite the crap reviews. The first hour and a half is prob the best, and then in the last 20mins they attempt to tag on a story. But don't let that put you off, at heart this is a very good film.

7/10
