THE KING OF LIMBS

BLOOM

OPEN YOUR MOUTH WIDE.
A UNIVERSAL SIGH.
AND WHILE THE OCEAN BLOOMS
IT'S WHAT KEEPS ME ALIVE.
"SO WHY DOES THIS STILL HURT?"
DON'T BLOW YOUR MIND WITH WHY.

MOVING OUT OF ORBIT.
(TURNING IN SOMERSAULTS.)
TURNING IN SOMERSAULTS.
(A GIANT TURTLE'S EYES.)
A GIANT TURTLE'S EYES.
(JELLYFISH FLOAT BY.)
JELLYFISH FLOAT BY.

(IT'S WHAT KEEPS ME ALIVE.)

MORNING MR MAGPIE

YOU GOT SOME NERVE COMING HERE.
YOU GOT SOME NERVE COMING HERE.

YOU STOLE IT OFF GIVE IT BACK.
YOU STOLE IT OFF GIVE IT BACK.

GOOD MORNING MR MAGPIE,
HOW ARE WE TODAY?
NOW YOU'VE STOLEN ALL MY MAGIC
AND TOOK MY MEMORY?

YOU KNOW YOU SHOULD BUT YOU DON'T.
YOU KNOW YOU SHOULD BUT YOU DON'T.

GOOD MORNING MR MAGPIE
HOW ARE WE TODAY?
NOW YOU'VE STOLEN ALL MY MAGIC
TOOK MY MELODY?

LITTLE BY LITTLE

DON'T TURN NASTY NOW. THE DARK IS THERE. THE PILLAR OF MY SOUL.
THE LAST ONE OUT OF THE BOX. THE ONE WHO BROKE THE SPELL.

LITTLE BY LITTLE BY HOOK OR BY CROOK.
I AM SUCH A TEASE AND YOU'RE SUCH A FLIRT.
ONCE YOU'VE BEEN AROUND YOU'VE BEEN AROUND ENOUGH.

LITTLE BY LITTLE BY HOOK OR BY CROOK.
NEVER GET NOTICED, NEVER GET JUDGED.
I DON'T KNOW WHERE IT IS, I SHOULD LOOK.

YOU COULD RULE IT ALL. INFLATABLE. I'M CURLING WITH MY LOVE.
THE LAST ONE OUT OF THE BOX. THE ONE WHO BROKE THE SEAL.

OBLIGATION.
COMPLICATION.
ROUTINES AND SCHEDULES
DRUG THEN KILL YOU.
KILL YOU.

LITTLE BY LITTLE BY HOOK OR BY CROOK.
NEVER BE NOTICED, NEVER GET JUDGED.
I DON'T KNOW WHERE IT IS, I SHOULD LOOK.

LITTLE BY LITTLE BY HOOK OR BY CROOK.
I AM SUCH A TEASE AND YOU'RE SUCH A FLIRT.

FERAL

YOU ARE NOT MINE.
AND I AM NOT YOURS.
AND THAT IS OK.
PLEASE DON'T JUDGE ME.

LOTUS FLOWER

I WILL SHAPE MYSELF INTO YOUR POCKET.
INVISIBLE.
DO WHAT YOU WANT.
DO WHAT YOU WANT.

I WILL SHRINK AND I WILL DISAPPEAR.
I WILL SLIP INTO A GROOVE.
AND CUT ME OFF.
AND CUT ME OFF.

THERE'S AN EMPTY SPACE INSIDE MY HEART WHERE THE WEEDS TAKE ROOT AND NOW I'LL SET YOU FREE.
I'LL SET YOU FREE.

THERE IS AN EMPTY SPACE INSIDE MY HEART WHERE THE WEEDS TAKE ROOT SO NOW I'LL SET YOU FREE.
I'LL SET YOU FREE.

SLOWLY WE UNFURL AS LOTUS FLOWERS.
CAUSE ALL I WANT IS THE MOON UPON A STICK.
JUST TO SEE WHAT IF.
JUST TO SEE WHAT IS.
I CAN'T KICK THE HABIT.
'JUST TO FEED YOUR FAST BALLOONING HEAD.'

"LISTEN TO YOUR HEART!"

THEN WE'LL SHRINK AND THEN BE QUIET AS MICE.
AND WHILE THE CAT IS AWAY
DO WHAT WE WANT.
DO WHAT WE WANT.

THERE'S AN EMPTY SPACE INSIDE MY HEART WHERE THE WEEDS TAKE ROOT SO NOW I'LL SET YOU FREE.
I'LL SET YOU FREE.

CAUSE ALL I WANT IS THE MOON UPON A STICK.
JUST TO SEE WHAT IF.
JUST TO SEE WHAT IS.

THE BIRD THAT'S FLOWN INTO MY ROOM.

SLOWLY WE UNFURL AS LOTUS FLOWERS.
CAUSE ALL I WANT IS THE MOON UPON A STICK.
A DANCER AROUND THE PIT.
THE DARKNESS IS BENEATH.
I CAN'T KICK THE HABIT.
'JUST TO FEED YOUR FAST BALLOONING HEAD.'

"LISTEN TO YOUR HEART!"

CODEX

SLEIGHT OF HAND.
JUMP OFF THE END.
INTO A CLEAR A LAKE.
NO-ONE AROUND.

JUST DRAGONFLIES
FANTASISED.
NO-ONE GETS HURT.
YOU'VE DONE NOTHING WRONG.

SLIDE YOUR HANDS.
JUMP OFF THE END.
THE WATER'S CLEAR
AND INNOCENT.

THE WATER'S CLEAR
AND INNOCENT.

GIVE UP THE GHOST

GATHER UP THE LOST AND THEIR SOULS
(DON'T HAUNT ME, DON'T HAUNT ME)
IN YOUR ARMS, IN YOUR ARMS

IN YOUR ARMS, IN YOUR ARMS
(DON'T HAUNT ME, DON'T HAUNT ME)
IN YOUR ARMS, IN YOUR ARMS
(DON'T HAUNT ME, DON'T HAUNT ME)

(IN YOUR ARMS, IN YOUR ARMS)
WHAT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE
(DON'T HAUNT ME, DON'T HAUNT ME)
(IN YOUR ARMS, IN YOUR ARMS)
IN YOUR ARMS, IN YOUR ARMS

(DON'T HAUNT ME, DON'T HAUNT ME)
(IN YOUR ARMS, IN YOUR ARMS)

I THINK I HAVE HAD MY FILL
(DON'T HAUNT ME, DON'T HAUNT ME)

IN YOUR ARMS, IN YOUR ARMS
(DON'T HAUNT ME, DON'T HAUNT ME)
IN YOUR ARMS, IN YOUR ARMS

INTO YOUR ARMS, INTO YOUR ARMS
(DON'T HAUNT ME, DON'T HAUNT ME)
INTO YOUR ARMS, INTO YOUR ARMS

SEPARATOR

IT'S LIKE I'VE FALLEN OUT OF BED FROM A LONG AND VIVID DREAM.
THE SWEETEST FLOWERED FRUITS WERE HANGING FROM THE TREES.
FALLING OFF A GIANT BIRD THAT'S BEEN CARRYING ME.
WAS LIKE I'VE FALLEN OUT OF BED FROM A LONG AND VIVID DREAM.

JUST EXACTLY AS I REMEMBER.
EVERY WORD, EVERY GESTURE.
I'VE MY HEART IN MY MOUTH.

LIKE I'VE FALLEN OUT OF BED FROM A LONG AND VIVID DREAM.
FINALLY I'M FREE OF ALL THE WEIGHT I'VE BEEN CARRYING...

AND AS THAT WOMAN BLOWS HER COVER
IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER.
I'M A FISH NOW OUT OF WATER.
FALLING OFF A GIANT BIRD THAT'S BEEN CARRYING ME.

I FELL OPEN, I LAID UNDER.
AT THE TIP OUT LOST YOUR NUMBER.
I WANNA TIP OVER AND GET BACK UNDER.

AND IF YOU THINK THIS IS OVER THEN YOU'RE WRONG.
IF YOU THINK THIS IS OVER THEN YOU'RE WRONG.
(WAKE ME UP, WAKE ME UP)
IF YOU THINK THIS IS OVER THEN YOU'RE WRONG.
(WAKE ME UP, WAKE ME UP)
IF YOU THINK THIS IS OVER THEN YOU'RE WRONG.
(WAKE ME UP, WAKE ME UP)
LIKE I'VE FALLEN OUT OF BED FROM A LONG AND VIVID DREAM.
(WAKE ME UP, WAKE ME UP)
FINALLY I'M FREE OF ALL THE WEIGHT I'VE BEEN CARRYING...

WHEN AT LAST YOU GIVE IN.
WHEN AT LAST YOU GIVE IN.
(WAKE ME UP, WAKE ME UP)
(WAKE ME UP, WAKE ME UP)
(WAKE ME UP, WAKE ME UP)
(WAKE ME UP, WAKE ME UP)

I'm thinking of ordering the £30 album combo SKTTR. I already have In Rainbows in that format and I'm a fan of Stanley Donwood's art so it seems worthwhile even though I didn't think In Rainbows really had much of an 'It' factor.

I already ordered the album combo day one. Can't wait to find out which other songs made it onto LP2. Stanley's artwork seems to be great on this one. More than 600 pieces of art and newspaper album?! I don't know what it will be. Very curious about it. Wouldn't hurt to own this.

Unfortunately I couldn't order the special In Rainbows release as I had no credit card back then. I love the 2nd LP, Last Flowers is my fav on that record. I hope I can find it somewhere.
'It' factor??
What are your favourite songs?

I just found In Rainbows to be their least memorable album in terms of sticking in my mind. I can't remember the track listing or even the names of most of the tracks. It was nice to here Nude finally given a proper recording but alot of the other stuff on the album kind of blended together and nothing really stood out. I found the same thing with The Eraser.

Album wise I would say I rate them in this order:

OK Computer
Amnesiac
Kid A
The Bends
Hail to the Thief
In Rainbows
Pablo Honey

and I feel harsh putting Pablo behind In Rainbows because I probably listened more to that album than I did In Rainbows but In Rainbows is a better technical acomplishment...although again its intangible as to why that should rank it higher...it just does.

Favorite songs? It's so hard to say there are so many great ones:

True Love Waits
Pyramid Song
Karma Police
Backdrifts
Life in a Glasshouse

My favorite radiohead album packaging is this:

and I own this piece of Stanley Donwood print as well as all his books:

Well, for me In Rainbows is amazing. House of Cards, Jigsaw Falling Into Place, Bodysnatchers, Weird Fishes/Arpeggi and Reckoner are my personal highlights. 15 Step never gets old too. All I Need and Videotape live version kill me everytime. Faust Arp was kinda out of place but now I really like it. In Rainbows is one of my personal favs.

Don't get me started with The Eraser - I love each and every song on that album. Cymbal Rush is in my top 10 of best songs ever. It doesn't really feel like a solo album. Jonny is playing instruments on it. And Cymbal Rush was originally a Radiohead song, so... not much difference to a regular Radiohead record for me. Speaking of solo albums, have you listened to Selways record? This is a pure chill, peace and make love album.

I can't say which is the best album for me. Each Radiohead record has fantastic songs I care too much about. I know that I really loved The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A and Amnesiac back when they were new. I suppose I have listened a little too much to these records, but I still like to play them once in a while.

However, these days I mostly listen to the new stuff, so The King of Limbs will get most playtime, followed by Familial. I also still like to play In Rainbows, The Eraser and Hail to the Thief. And Amnesiac. In fact, these albums still grow. Also I rediscovered some fantastic b-sides like I Want None Of This.

So, in short my favourite is The King of Limbs.
Then comes Familial.

Beautiful selection.

My all time favourites would require too much thinking right now (and they would include all the songs you mentioned).

My favourites of the day are :

Bloom
Little By Little
Codex
A Simple Life
Patron Saint

I really like the music on it, it's very much the Amnesiac to OK Computer's Kid A. But the best thing about it is the packaging, with Donwood's creepy little stories (although I now have them in his short story anthology) interspersed with the strage questionaires. Nothing quite captured post Millennium melencholy like this era of Radiohead.

S L O W L Y D O W N W A R D : Books

Actually...looking at this site for the first time in a while makes me realise i don't have all his books, just:

Slowly Downward: An anthology of short stories printed on hemp paper.

Catacombs of Terror: a pulp detective novel written in a month.

My Giro & Wage Packet CD: Two short stories in audio book format...also very weird.

I also have a second anthology of short stories called 'Tachistoscope' that seems to be out of print on the website but can be read for free in the library, here:

http://www.slowlydownward.com/tach.html

This website is also where I got the 'Operation Phantom Fury' screen print for two hundred pines.

I wish I had a bigger apartment to fill with more of his prints.

It's not that I'm listening to any more of his music than normal at the moment but I've found myself compelled to watch a whole batch of interviews with Tom Waits after recently seeing him inducted into the RnR Hall of Fame and making another great speech:

YouTube - Neil Young Inducts Tom Waits - Make It Rain and Rain Dogs

he really does make a fascinating interviewee in whatever era he does them in. What's particularly noteworthy is that he can conduct intriguing, lengthy interviews and still come away with as much mystery and aura preserved as he had going into them.

Here are a couple of good ones:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCSc6E4yG9s

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zP1TC...eature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lX1qp...eature=related

I particularly like how each host tries to make jokes at his expense and always ends up looking the more foolish of the two as Waits utterly confounds them seemingly without much effort.

"Rapture" by Morbid Angel.
Seemed rather appropriate in this date (May 21st, 2011).

"The City" by the Dismemberment Plan, from Emergency and I.
Some good ol' 90's indie....that I just discovered!

Yay, Kanti's back!

Have you ever listened to Pavement, Built to Spill, and Neutral Milk Hotel? All three are excellent '90s indie bands that I highly recommend.

Dude I love all three of those bands!
Neutral Milk Hotel is one of my favorite bands of all time actually.

Lately I've been listening to alot of Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
It's been quite gloomy and overcast these last few days so it seems like a good match. Godspeed always kind of gives me the creeps in a good way.

Built to Spill is great.

Listening to Heritage, the new Opeth album at the moment. Very Jethro Tull-y at times.

Currently listening to Giles Corey. Without a doubt the darkest piece of music I have ever listened to thematically. Deals with extremely dark themes, and actual audio of the artist flipping a ****. I have the CD and book coming in the mail. Yes, a book.

Highlight of the album for me.

The story of Giles Corey (Salem witch trials figure) is really interesting too.

I've been listening to "Frozen in Time" by Obituary for the past week or so. I bought it and two others by them but haven't yet received the others (one of which I used to own). This one was characterized as a perfect Obituary album in a review and it was cheap so I bought it with some skepticism. Anyway, it's awesome and I love it. If you like Obituary at all, get this one. I got it for like $5 off eBay (shipping included).

I can't wait to get my next one...
