Default Track and Field

And so the season begins, I primarily do field events such as shot put and discus, but I do occasionaly run short sprints...so...has anyone else ever been involved in/had some contact with this sport?

Oh baby, I am this year. It's what I'm all about until it's over I want to try the 400, 800, 1500, 3000, 300 hurdles, and steeple chase, so I gotta cut 3 events somewhere down the line. But I'm training with a gril who used to go to my school like 7 years ago and used to win OFSAA (Ontario-wide competition for highschool sports) she won cross-country running 3 times, and has 3 track championships too (300m hurdles, 1500m, and 3000m) so it's pretty sick

Does "feild" rhyme with failed?

Back in the day I used to do 100m and 200m sprints, but I never kept up with it outside school events or after I graduated.

Are you attempting to imply something about this thread or people in field events?

Yes: you failed to spell field.

Three times in more than one post! Fear not, I've discovered the spell check option. Its unfortunate that the Title seems to be stuck that way, oh well.

Thanx for pointing that out

Today we did a hill workout, and the chick that I train with (who wasn't even there today...) wanted me doing 8, when normally everyone does 5 at most. So I did that, twas brutal, but really rewarding, especially since the last four all got progressively faster. But yeah totally awesome, but hard

I love painful work outs like this. Too bad shot putters rarely do them. We don't do enough, I say. Today my sprinting friend joined the throwing team and really paced the warm up laps. Unfortunately, I was the only person who tried to run at his pace. lazy team

Yesterday it was the literacy test, so seniors had no classes in the morning, so I would've skipped school but we had threshold runs after it so I went (yup I went to school to go to track). But after the first 1km run my knee got hurt so I couldn't do any more , also I couldn't do sprint practice today, so I had to do an easy run.

So are you doing any sprints?

I've been doing more sprinting practice than I did last year. I'm supposed to be part of a relay team (that has yet to practice even once.) I'll probably be doing the 100 m, as my coach put me in it last year at my first meet without my consent. Considering I hadn't done any sprinting at all before that. I consider 4th place pretty good, though it was a small meet.

That's cool, I think I'll likely be doing the Steeple Chase, 400m, and 3000m, although I might try some other stuff at smaller meets.

My coach wants me doing mostly long distance stuff since I'm supposed to do awesome at Cross Country Running next year, but whenever were doing easy runs I usually practice with the sprinters.

I have the beep test in gym on Monday, and then hills in practice so I'll probably take those a bit easy. Do you have to do the beep test in gym?

If the beep test is where they sound the beep, you run, and if you don't make it to the other side of the gym by the time beep two has sounded, your done, then yes we do the beep test.

You don't get a warning? Where you have to make it to there and then back before the next beep?

I see, I always walk the first beep and get a warning, and then actually try, we just have to not get 2 warnings in a row.

Just got back from the first meet of the year, 'twas good. I placed in all my events. The relay went better than I thought would, considering the relay teams first practice was the day before the meet. We held first place in the first to legs (one of which I ran), third in the third, and finished with fifth.

I have a track meet tomorrow, it doesn't mean anything, but it's fun and some more experience. I have to be at the school at 6:30AM, meaning I have to get up at 5:30. But it's not bad, only me, three coaches, and five girls are going

Thats not much smaller than my entire Varsity team. My last JV meet was cancelled (last Wednesday), which really ****ed me off. Its all varsity the rest of the way. My conference meet is next Wednesday. Best of luck to you, Digiki.

That's cool, I've had two meets already, but neither meant anything. The ones that count start next Wednesday. I'll be doing 800m and 1500m, which is pretty sweet with me.

What did you end up doing?

Missed meet-wise or event-wise?

School was actually canceled do to a small inconvenience early in the day, so both the meet and practice were canceled. I went home and did nothing important.

Event-wise, I still mah shot and disc. We only ran our relay at JV meets, as we didn't have enough varsity sprinters to do it elsewhere. I ran a 100m earlier in the year, haven't since. Not sure why.

I had a meet today, I did the 1500m, which I thought was it but, I was signed up for 400m hurdles, let's just say it wasn't pretty...

I was probably the best sprinter in my hurdle race, but I'd never hopped a hurdle nearly that high, so my technique was terrible. Finished in 1:05.

The 1500m, I started slowly to try it out, since I usually start real quick. I didn't pick up the pace enough, so at the end I had a huge almost-effortless kick for the last 120 or so metres. I ended with a 4:40 , but I could've done much better easily.
