Default Chrono Trigger DS

Chrono Trigger DS confirmed?
http://www.square-enix.co.jp/ctds/
Doesn't really give away much but it's interesting. Looks like they are finally doing something to the game again at least.

Edit: http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/07/chrono-trigger.html
I guess it's just a port then.

A DS port/remake for Chrono Trigger isn't surprising to anyone. I think the game could actually benefit from a little graphical update.

Believe it or not, I have tried to play through the game about 6 times by now, but get bored after an hour or two every time. I must be one of the only people ever who doesn't like it.

Did you try to play it back when it was originally released in '95? It was pretty awesome then. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's an awesome game, but it is an aged SNES RPG after all. It could definitely be tough to get into.

Maybe the DS remake will make things easier for you.

I feel the same. The game starts off good, but as soon as you end up in the future, it loses that.

As such I am spurned by many a CT fan

The future is a bit of a drag, but it gets a lot better after that.

Whenever I try to replay the game nowadays I am struck by how looong it seems.

I tried on three occasions to get into it, and the final time I got to the part just after getting Ayla. I'd had enough of it at that point, so I quit and never played it again

I remember renting this game when it first came out it 95. I also remember when we first got it, my brother would never let me play it. I think we were only allowed to have it for a day or two, so we didn't get very far. Finally we went out and bought it a few days later (probably because my brother was rude and didn't let me play it)

Classic game. I wouldnt mind getting another port of it (have the PS version of it)

Are you maybe talking about the fan project, Chrono Trigger: Resurrection? That got C&D'ed by Square Enix for <strikeout>being more awesome than anything they would come up with</strikeout> infringing upon intellectual properties.

If anything, this DS remake is great justification for that C&D. It's one thing to have your IP infringed, but it's another thing if that infringement scoops something else you're working on already.

Wow, the DS is getting a stacked old school RPG library this year. Final Fantasy IV, Dragon Quest IV and XI and now the greatest game ever made? Day one purchase for me, I simply adore this game. Now if only Square would do something with that Chrono Brake trademark they've been sitting on for years.

A port is enough, it was never released here, I don't have an import SNES or Playstation and any chance to play it will be appreciated. I hope it's as close to the original as possible.

Square said it wasn't releasing games for the VC that they still see profitablity from... I mean, there is a reason why ActRaiser and King's Knight are on there. I think this is fantastic news, and I think Square's track record of updating past RPG gems for handhelds (Especially Nintendo's) will do the game right
Also, I love ActRaiser, don't hate

Yeah, it's not exactly dickery for a business to work well within the scope of the law to protect its business interests, especially if the people you're C&Ding are, for the most part, out of little more than a hobby. I don't really have much of a problem with what SE did, other than it's a crying shame that something that looked so damn awesome was stopped.

[edit] ::ahem:: I don't really have much of a problem, not, I really have much of a problem. Let's fix that there...

Then we BETTER see the same treatment for Seiken Densetu III. If they don't, it will be the biggest missed oppertunity on the DS aside from Dragon Quest IX I think. Which they ARE doing that. Let's see if they actually come up with the other great idea...

Dude, I appreciate your foaming love of SDIII more than most people probably do, but it hasn't even officially been translated into English. If that game was on their list of high-profit potentials, you'd think it would have at least been brought to North America by now...

One thing I had hoped to see on the VC, back in the day, was some of those fan translations that exist out there in ROM-land (note: not promoting illegal downloads or warez, kthx). In Dia's Happy Little Dreamland, all the legalities would work out somehow and then we'd be able to use all that work that has already been done.

But fanslation doesn't count as real work. It's mere hobbystuff. Long live The Man!

I'm sure if the companies could get it for free and anonymously, they would love to profit from it. On the other hand, the fantranslators would love to turn a buck off their hobby.

Then there's the whole illegality of ROMs, and company image should a business decide to openly associate with the emu community. Sometimes, it's pretty easy to take the high road!

They'd have to hire their own translators anyway, to proof the fanslation and ensure it's not full of mistakes. Fanslators usually aren't professionals, after all.

I assume they hire proofreaders in the normal course of the translation.

And this, among many other reasons, is why it should be re-released on DS....

As I've been saying. Its not going to be put on VC. It can't be for the exact reason you just stated. But they could and should port it to DS and make tons of money just like they are going to with Chrono Trigger. And once they make all that money in Japan, they should bring it out in the other regions where it never got released.

I'm attached to it entirely for gameplay reasons. Though some of the translation quirks amuse me.

I could never keep the plot straight, though, because of the lack of flow in translation. That, and I could never keep the characters straight (in the end, every character winds up becoming just like every other character--y'know, a guy with a funny-lookin' beard who starts off allied with some folks, then betrays them and kills a bunch of people. V. tiresome. :P).

I'm a HUGE fan of the Chrono series (Chrono Trigger AND Chrono Cross), so I'm VERY excited about this!

I still have the PS1 verison of Chrono Trigger, but I don't have a PS1 or 2 anymore to play it. I may get a PS2 again, but I still want this for the DS! I think it would be GREAT as a portable game. I would be so addicted to it!

The new port is also going to include touch screen/duel screen stuff, plus a new dungeon AND wireless multiplayer. Pretty exciting imo.

PLUS its supposed come out THIS YEAR!!! This holiday season! I know what I want for Christmas!

Well, the gameplay is truly the best there is. It's the only reason I've been able to go back and play the game from start to finish 10+ times or however many times I've done it.

But the plot is also tons of fun. I guess when you play the game obsessively you begin to figure things out in spite of the translation. Lurves me some FFT plot. And translation! Whatevz.

Chrono Trigger is my 4th favourite SNES RPG (behind FFIV, Secret of Mana, and Soul Blazer, in that order), so I'm obviously pumped to get to play it on the bus or on the can.

Yes, but CT is so also druggingly addictive, that we can't even go to the bathroom without playing it.

It's a vicious cycle.

Chrono Trigger is my #1 favorite SNES rpg....so I'm VERY excited!

My favorite SNES rpgs (in order): Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6, Earthbound, Final Fantasy 4, and Super Mario RPG.

So ya, Chrono Trigger DS is a dream come true for me! I was really hoping they'd re-release it on the DS (and when they were doing all those re-releases on the GBA, I was hoping for it there).

So excited about this. Wish it was coming out tomorrow! lol.

This is, without doubt the most exciting news (other than that I'm gonna be a dad) I've heard for ages. I've got a pristine SNES copy, but it'll be nice to have this on the move, with a copy I'm not scared to touch, that might even get a UK release (grud bless region free handhelds!) and that might now let people see what the fuss is about. As a teacher I often discuss games with my students and they look at me like I'm stupid when I wax lyrical about this game. God, I love it so much.

I've only played a liiittle of CT, I got to the time portal thingie wich I don't remember much of, I have no Idea of why I never played it again, I did like it. oh well, looking forward to this i guess, though I'm disappointed(spelling?) that they're only porting it and not remaking it like with the Final Fantasy games.

I'm actually glad of this. I don't think CT's maps and visible enemies would work so well in the 3D type environment of FFIII and IV. Unless they really modified it and did a good job of reintegrating everything... I just don't have faith that it would work as well. CT is fine on its own with very minor tweaks (dual screen, touch, and QuickSave).

now that I think of it, I hate the 3D graphics of the FF games... god I'm tired. *need more coffee*
wait a minute... will they keep remaking more FF games do DS? (thinking specifically of FF:VI)
