If you ever decide to try out Paint by DS, let me know what you think of it. I'm a sucker for the DS non-games and I've had my eye on PbDS for a while now.

Hope you get more enjoyment out of it than Pokemon Pearl. It is an entirely different kind of game so there's a decent chance.

It isn't the best in it's genre, looking at reviews and comments on GameFaqs, but I'm a sucker for these type of games. Hotel Dusk, Phoenix Wright, Unsolved Crimes, Time Hollow etc., I'm planning on getting them all.

The game would have been 200% better if it had implemented a decent hint system. As it is, the mechanics are too old-school P&C. Triggers that advance the plot are frequently so non-intuitive, that you just have to fumble around, searching everything, talking to everyone, and using every item in every way you can. It's like:
-- Dia gives pepper to Yasume.
-- Yasume cooks world-famous 5 alarm chili!
-- Jogurt comes in and has a bowl!
-- The chili is far too hot for Jogurt. Flames burst from his mouth!
-- Jogurt runs to the lake to put the fire out! Along the way, he sets aflame Hansolo's hair.
-- Hansolo jumps up and runs around crazily! He is now no longer blocking the path to the candy shop!
-- Now Dia can go to the candy shop and get PLOT ITEM!
-- Of course! Pepper = candy shop! How could I not have seen this before?
Technical complaints aside, I love the game's humor & style.

Yeah. I don't mind either genre, but Pearl was soooo slooow. Here's hoping these dungeons don't suffer from the same problem.

Also, I finally found it somewhere!

Heh, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon is a mediocre game. It's repetitive, it has a stupid storyline and the dungeons are quite dull. The only good thing about it is the replay value. I haven't played Explores of Time/Darkness, but there probably isn't much difference with the first two games. Pokémon Pearl & Diamond on the other hand, are true masterpieces with a lot of depth. What exactly do you mean with slow?

You haven't said anything yet about it being super slow, so that's a good sign.

I mean slow. Stuff takes ages to happen in battle, menus open and close slowly, etc. It's painful to watch. Another reason for me deciding to try out the Mystery Dungeon game is that it's apparently a roguelike, which will be a nice change of pace from the slow, slow grinding in Pearl/Diamond. I'm hoping the claims that Platinum fixes this problem are true so I can try one more time to get into the main series.

You do know that you can change the speed of the text (not opening the menus, but that didn't bother me at all) in options, right? I always change it to Fast before I start a Pokémon game, since the default setting is Normal.

And yeah, the Mystery Dungeon games are definitely not slow, but they are probably the worst Pokémon games ever.

No way! You just don't appreciate a good dungeon crawler, the first ones in the Mystery Dungeon series are good, I haven't played the new ones (180+ from the first is enough) , although if D/P have their way I'm guessing they'll be slow (just kidding), with ugly Pokemon (oh wait).

Which is ironic, considering neither of this is a real Final Fantasy game.

Yep, text speed fast!

And if it somehow manages to take that title from Pearl, I'll be mighty impressed. It's worth a look, though, especially at $15 sealed.

Updated! I've moved the relevant word files to my computer and converted its format for Open Office (which, I assure you, was terribly difficult...it certainly didn't take so long because I procrastinated forever). Now I can update this thread any time!

I would completely agree that Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team is a mediocre game, primarily because of a terrible story, awkward translation, and general lack of polish. However, there's a lot to speak for it other than its replay value. I had a lot of fun with it and spent as much time with it as I did with Pearl (100+ hours). It sounds like you may just not like the dungeon crawling roguelike, where the joy lays in...well, crawling dungeons.

Could be. What I also don't like about the games is that when you take a step, the enemies also take a step. It makes it a bit unfair, especially when you have reached stage 70 or so, and are close to death.

Yeah, sounds like the genre may well be a bad fit for you. I don't think the turn-based battle system is part of all roguelikes (I haven't yet played many other games in the genre, since I'm still working on my DS backlog), but it's one of the key exploitables in Mystery Dungeon. Gotta base your strategies around it.

That, and the inevitability of monster houses in inconvenient locales. D=

Oh, I will definitely enjoy it. I have already played Justice For All & Apollo Justice (I should have played them in the right order, I know), and I absolutely love them. Justice For All is almost flawless.
