| ![]() Being a huge fan of the WarioWare series, it is obvious that I had to create a topic about their latest game titled WarioWare: D.I.Y. It is a game that not only you can make your own microgames, but you can also download microgames made by others. Unfortunately the concept itself is simple and it all involves tapping the screen with the stylus, but if you are able to use your imagination, there are limitless possibilities! So I am opening up this workshop here to hopefully help people out who want to make their own microgames. I am no expert in this, but with this great community of people, we can all help each other out and complete our microgames! Keep an eye out for this topic and I'll make a listing here of what microgames are made available by the members here and possibly some more. In the meantime, be sure to also tell me your Friend Codes for both WarioWare: D.I.Y. and WarioWare: D.I.Y. Showcase! ================================================== ================================================== FRIEND CODES WarioWare: D.I.Y. [DS] - Your Friend Code is found by going to the "Distribution Center", then "WFC", and "Friend Settings". Your Friend Code will be displayed on the top screen.
- Your Friend Code is actually your Wii console number.

| FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS! Have a question? Hopefully we have the answers! ================================================== ================================================== WARIOWARE D.I.Y. [DS] FAQ: Q: What is the gimmick featured in the microgames? A: Every game in the WarioWare series are known for a certain gimmick. Before the release of WarioWare Touched!, all of the microgames were played by pressing the A button and occasionally the directional pad. Touched! utilizes the DS stylus to allow you to play games by tapping, dragging, and scratching amongst other things. Twisted! introduced tilting the Game Boy Advance, Smooth Moves allows you to utilize the Wiimote, and Snapped! lets you use the DSi's camera. In D.I.Y., the gimmick here is simply tapping the DS screen such as tap the screen to grab an apple, tap the screen to point out the suspect, or tap the screen to select an option from a menu. So it allows people to get creative with what limited controls they are given. Q: Do they offer tutorials? A: Yes, this game gives you a very basic tutorial which helps you through the process and you will eventually make three games, one music, and one comic. There are also a place where you can hone your skills with giving you mini-tests, and there are also a forum for you to read where they give out tips. Q: How hard is it to make your own microgame? A: Depending on how much work you want to put into it. Making microgames are easy! They are simple because you navigate through a menu and pick out what trigger best suit the action you are trying to perform such as "When OBJECT is TAPPED" > "Play POP sound effect". Q: I'm tone deaf, would making music be a problem for me? A: To those who are musically challenged, like myself, there is a maestro which can randomly compose a song for you. All you gotta do is tell him what you prefer such as a "Frenzy, 8-Bit Song" or a "Relaxed, Sad Song" or he can even come up with something himself. Or if you are experienced in music, you will see that there is a lot of things for you to do which will help you compose the perfect melody! Q: What if I'm not good at drawing aside from stick figures? A: No one expects you to be a Picasso, just as long as you're having fun. You are expected to draw a black-and-white four panel comic [Sorry, no color!], and you are given tones and shades to make up the lack of colors. There are options to help you out like copying images, special effects, and fonts to make your comic come to fruitation. Q: How do I make the art for the introduction and intermissions? A: You cannot make the art for the introductions and intermissions, they use just the generic Wario's face on a TV as the interface. Q: Is it possible to make Boss Stages? A: The differences between normal microgames and Boss Stages are that there are no time limit in Boss Stages, unless you specify for it. Therefore technically, no, there is no way to make Boss Stages. HOWEVER someone was able to hack the DS game and released a microgame that is virtually timer-less. The game itself is called "Boss Template", all you have to do is import it to GameMaker and work your magic. While I currently have the "Boss Template" in my possession, I will only give it out to members who have over 100 post counts in this forum. I've been receiving too many messages from non-members wanting this template, and I advise them to head over to GameFAQs to ask for it. Q: I don't understand Randomizers, can someone explain them to me? A: Snappie from the GameFAQs forum was kind enough to write a Randomizing Guide for GameFAQs. Q: Is there a fan site dedicated to WarioWare D.I.Y.? [COLOR=Black]A: Yes, there is a place called the D.I.Y. Wikihouse, it contains tutorials, a listing of people's microgames, and much more! ================================================== ================================================== WARIOWARE D.I.Y. SHOWCASE [WIIWARE] FAQ: Q: What are the main differences between the DS version and the WiiWare version? A: With the DS version, it gives you the ability to create games, music, and comics. But the WiiWare version does not allow you to create them. Q: Could you list the pros and cons of Showcase, the WiiWare version? A: Here is a comprehensive list: PROS: + Over 75 brand new microgames featuring Wario-Man's, Dribble & Spitz's, Kat & Ana's, and 18-Volt's games. In the DS version, you can only play through Mona's, Jimmy T.'s, Ashley's, Orbulon's, and 9-Volt's games. + 18 brand new comics. + The art presented in the introductions and intermissions are crisp and sharp. + The ability to play other people's microgames as well as listening to their music and read their comics that they have made from the DS version. + After viewing another person's work, you can send them a survey. You can rate their works from 1 out of 5 stars, and have a pre-set phrase which describes your feelings about their work. Surveys are not present at all in the DS version. NEUTRAL: ~ If you own the DS version, you can use Showcase as a storage to store an additional 90 games, music, and comics. ~ In order to obtain other people's works, you will need to register their Wii numbers in your Address Book. ~ The only way to view and play the DS version's games, music, and comics is if you can get someone to ship them over to you. You will only miss out are the introductions and intermission art for the games. ~ You are able to download the games presented in the NinSoft Store which are microgames officially released by Nintendo and "Big Name Games" made by famous developers in the video gaming industry. CONS: - You cannot send microgames directly from the DS version to Showcase. And the person who owns the DS version must also own Showcase in order for them to ship you their works if you don't own the DS version. - May been seen as an expansion of the DS version; not worth the 800 Points. - You cannot make your own games, music, or comics. - The DS graphics show up as being "HQ", along the lines of NES Emulator HQ graphics. Therefore the graphics appear somewhat blurry. Q: Why does it take too long to register that someone has Showcase in the Distribution Center? A: The best way to fix that is to click on the D.I.Y. Friend Notification Switch. Turn it off and then turn it back on again. And voila, the person you are looking for will be added immediately. Last edited by enigmaopoeia; 7th June 2010 at 11:41 PM. |

| Wow, those were some cool games enig. Those games you made looked just like real games (although I've never played 8 Eyes or Ghost Lion before). Some pretty cool secrets you put in there too. And I don't remember, did you make those Mega Man ones too enig? I know someone sent me some and they looked spot on as well. That Snake Man tune also sounded like the real thing. My only beef was with that Mega Man game where you had to run and dodge Wily, I found it hard to control by pressing those tiny arrows and A button. It might have been better to just have the A button and try to jump above the blast or something like that. But, maybe that's just me. |

| Casual gamer since 1978 | I downloaded the Showcase for Wii, here's my friend code: 4868 5465 3534 5758 I'm greatly disappointed by the games in this version. I still didn't unlock all of them, but they're far too easy. By the way, are you guys doing microgames? I hoped for this thread to be more active... [EDIT] I decided to try giving a shot to programming microgames. [neuzd of Giochi Inusabili] @ 1334 0672 5411

| Casual gamer since 1978 | The other day I noticed that there's probably just one single game with scrolling, and it isn't even that great as effect, so I decided to try something in this direction. What I came out is a game with 3 levels of parallax scrolling. It started as a "study", and for a couple of days I thought I could be releasing it as a template or something to learn from, without an actual game behind. But ultimately I decided to make it a game so that I was forced to improve on my graphics skills. Hand-drawn sprites still look ridiculous (and always will), but I relied more on stamps and patterns for this one. The scrolling technique is really nothing difficult, by the way. I'm proud mostly because I thought of it and implemented it all by myself. In case you're interested in using it, you will probably notice that if you intend to scroll vertically you will save 1/4 of the sprites than if you do it horizontally. If you wish to have the scrolling on more than one side of the screen, you will be using twice the sprites, so it's not advisable. But it really all depends on the number of objects in your game. The game is "open" and it can be imported and studied, if you wish...I do (wish you wish): that's the whole point of this game : P Enjoy. Blind Jogger

| I got around to playing your two microgames, neuzd: Affoga was kind of cute, I really like the background music. Also after winning the game and seeing the shark swim by with that wolf howl made me chortle. I am more impressed with Blind Jogger. I dunno how you can make the background scroll and those really astound me. FRONT PAGE UPDATE!!! A new microgame: Uninvited by enigmaopoeia *NEW!!!*

I'm impressed with the graphics. It's one of the best looking games from the DIY series. The gameplay isn't as good as in the drowning game though because in the drowning game there was more diversity (the random movement of the swimmer), naturally such an element leads to a more fun experience. In the jogger game there's always two manholes always in the same place, and that makes not only your game but every game with that mechanic, boring, faster than necessary. Put more "randomness" or "levels of diversity" in that game. Imo, just getting faster and faster with every stage isn't the best motivator. Hope my critic helps you improve on your game creating. It's still "4 stars" because it's visually awesome and on par with many of the original games. PS. If you update your games, please send em to me again. PPS. It's good to see you making games in English now. Quote:

About the gameplay, I totally agree with your vision about this kind of games (though the first manhole's position is randomized in an area...). I didn't care too much about this one, by the way: the intent was to show the cool scrolling effect I created. If the gameplay is weak, this time I admittedly wasn't worrying about it. As I was saying in the other post, I focused more on obtaining clean graphics and the mechanics of logic in making the game (the falling-into-the-manhole animation for instance, is particularly refined). I think I'll be updating games (but for Blind Jogger I'll be just correcting the description), so I'll try to keep you up to date with eventual re-releases. About the language, there's no difficulty in releasing a game multiple times with different languages, so I think I'll be publishing games for you guys in English. But I'm going to do them in Italian first, because of the idiotic nature of the game itself: using my own language gives me the impression it's all more funny. One is a comic, "supposedly" tied with the game : P Quote:
The updated, less detailed list on the first page is definitely more readable now. I liked all the bits and info there were before, but now it's more practical. Right choice. I also missed your 8 eye's game and comic. Can you register my wii code and send them to me? Your graphics are impressive in my opinion, I really look forward to see more of your drawings. ----------------- I'm very very happy with this game. Despite the atrocious limits, there's plenty of "room" to overcome most practical problems, given the right amount of creativity. If someone of the others who purchased this gem is having some issues in making their games (I say it because of the low level of activity in this thread), I'll be more than happy to help you out. Of course I'll be trying to "teach you how to fish" instead of "giving you one fish". As a programmer I found that some of the basic concepts are not explained very well in the lessons (though when it comes to logic, it all mostly depends on how one's brain has assimilated a concept and how long you take to recognize the same idea expressed in a different way), so if something is not clear, I think I could be be helpful.

| Casual gamer since 1978 | I keep double posting....but I'm liking so much creating stuff with this fun little game! I loaded into my box updated versions of my two games. Drown!! is now all in English and has a couple of improvements/fixes suggested by SKTTR which volunteered as beta tester : P. And of course I put back the sound FX I forgot the first time. Blind Jogger simply has the word "focus" in the description typed correctly. The first release of Musica Inusabili is...exactly what it should have been. One of the few things I like to pay homage to, constantly: Mazinger Z
For comparison: Original (performance by Mizuki Ichiro) Instrumental version (excellent sound quality) The next Record release will probably be Yatterman, I've already almost finished it. And to keep this same kind of musical choices, but getting into videogame territory, I seriously want to do a version of the Segata Sanshiro theme.

After finding the instrumental version I also linked, things got a lot easier, by the way. Another record, Yatterman as promised. Yatterman
Original theme A remake for the 2008 version of Yatterman. This is really "cool". Enjoy. PS Segata Sanshiro may be harder than expected. There are too many triplets, and any solution to overcome the problem makes things uncomfortable to manage. It's not impossible, just terribly annoying. [EDIT] Edizioni Inusabili also has the first comic ready. I really don't expect to impress with these, but there you go. SiameseBeers

| Mazinger Z and Yatterman were awesome. 5 Stars! I know how hard it is to make good sounding music with the DIY editor and you achieved the 2 most important things when doing a cover song on the DIY editor: You used the perfect instruments. And the arrangement sounds just like the original. Thanks for the Drown!! game update too. Bugs are fixed! Ending animation is there! English screentext! 5 Stars now! If you update Blind Jogger you can send it to me too enigmaopoeia, if you want to send me something, you need to add my Wii code again since I deleted most of my Wii data and the whole Wii adress book (thanks to damn Family & Friends Party). |

| Casual gamer since 1978 | I made a game based on Pokémon. The gameplay is a bit repetitive I know, and it isn't a challenging game, but this is the idea I came out with...I once again based all of my efforts in the graphics and designing the game logic. Octillerpwn
Enjoy. [EDIT] The game has already been updated because of a minor graphical error, though the copy I sent to SKTTR and Tides of Chaos is the first one. Tell me if you want the new one. It's just this little graphical correction for now.

| Casual gamer since 1978 | I have an actually good game for you. This time I started focusing on the gameplay and refined it until I obtained what I really think is a fun little game...then I struggled several days for the background graphics and I'm still not totally satisfied (I'm seriously limited in that department), but I already delayed this game for too long, so this is what you get : P Last Chance
Have fun.

| Octillerpwn by neuzd Nice little Pokémon game. It works pretty good. Pokémaniac girlfriend freaked out. Neat. 4/5 Last Chance by neuzd Your best game so far. Many variables (and easter eggs) and great balancing of gameplay makes it very fun. I just think it's odd that a cannon can float up on down like this, but whatever, it's WarioWare! Ghost Lion and 8 Eye's by enig Are these two franchises/series your own creations? I like how these two games are accompanied by some kind of background story (comics). Even though I'm not sure if I understand them, the concept is great. The drawings of the comics are very professional. Your anime skills is pretty good. And the games have a polished 8-bit-style. I like your presentation, and the pieces of music were great too. Easter eggs in the 8 Eye's game were a nice addition, but overall the games were too easy and simple for me. 4/5 for all of your good work. Thanks for sharing. |

| Hi, I'm new here and I was looking for some friends to share games with and I'd LOVE for someone to share a boss template with me. One of my games, "DIY-CATHLON", is a finalist in Nintendo's sports theme challenge if you want to check it out. FC: REDDOGinc @ 3567 3966 1131 Thanks a lot |

| Casual gamer since 1978 | I added you, REDDOGROB. During these weeks, I didn't do very much, but I wrote down lots of ideas and I should start developing some of them. Knowing there's someone "new" interested in microgames may be the right incentive. enig, I took the liberty to send you my masterpiece (...) "Last Chance" because it doesn't seem you downloaded it from my box. Of course, also thanks for the kind words SKTTR. On another topic, I added in my blog section some posts about useful techniques to be used in WarioWare DIY. There are just a couple of articles in there but I hope to find other "tricks" to talk about, while I develop some new games. It's not a tutorial nor an FAQ; I tried to explain the principles rather than a step by step guide (but I know that often I'm not very clear...), my intention is that of exploring creative methods to overcome the limitations of the game editor, and trying to make you think that way, too. I hope you can make something out of it : P

| Great! I hope you do get re-inspired to make more games. I'll add you now but (since I'm new to it) do we both have to be connected to the WFC at the same time to trade content or something? I look forward to connecting very soon. Thanks a lot. |

My impression is that like other Nintendo services, you just need to connect/disconnect several times and wait some time. In the case of WarioWare DIY, I'd suggest to connect to the friends' warehouse, other than just checking the friend-list. This way the game is forced to make an additional check with the servers and *maybe* this can help waking it up and make the connection. [EDIT] I see you. SHOO A RUBE is not exactly a challenging game, but the whole idea and animations are absolutely hilarious : D

| Cool. I'm still trying to access your warehouse. That game was supposed to be my first contest entry for the "machines" theme but I was unable get my wireless connection issues solved before the deadline. It was more of an exercise than a game - but kinda' funny anyway. Thanks a lot for the feedback. I'll put something better in the warehouse shortly. Just connected. Great parallax scrolling technique! Last Chance is a lot of fun to play also. I added my better game to my warehouse. I have a couple more in progress now, but they need some work. Do you happen to have access to a boss game /timerless template? I'd love to be experimenting with longer games. Thanks again. Last edited by REDDOGROB; 8th June 2010 at 03:24 AM. |

DIY-Cathlon is fantastic! It's not very compicated when played alone, but if it pops out during a shuffle session, it's a thrill. Fun to play and to watch. Congrats. And no, I don't have boss-templates.
