I tried out a DSi XL today and I actually quite like it, it'd be good for some games I'd prefer to be on a bigger screen and often my neice and nephew like watching me play a game so it'd be good for them too, I may purchase one when it comes down to a reasonable price. £150 is ridiculous for a slightly larger 6 year old console with a handful of new features and no GBA slot

| I'm actually quite interested in getting one for the bigger screens and all that DSi stuff but the price is what's scaring me off. If Ninty'd lower the price a bit, or a sale were to come along, that may just be enough to get me to buy one. |

| Para-goomba | Managed to get a DSi for £130 yesterday from PC world thanks to their price match/beat any price gurantee and Asda had it at £135. The extra screen size increase doesn't cause games to look overly stretched in my opinion, I still have my DS lite so i'll try and get some comparison pics soon |

| Man, I had no idea the DSI and XL were so expensive, there's no way I'd pay that for a new DS. If I get any DS to replace my broken hinged original it'll be the lite as I'd want the GBA/Rumble port. I've seen nothing that remotely interests me about DSiware and I certainly couldn't care less about some camera that is barely better than the one I have for my GBC.

| I still have my old phat DS silver. It works and does his job. I have a seperate camera and mp3 player, too, and if I want to download games the Wii Shop Channel still delivers. When my DS dies, I might check out the DSi XL because I like the bigger screen because with it you have more accurate touchscreen gameplay which makes better drawings, better writings, better KAOSS pad controls in the Synthesizer software and better clicking on small icons in general, etc. and bigger screens are doing the DSi camera picture quality justice. |

(I don't own a DSi, but of course tested all stuff on someone elses DSi.) When you transfer DSi snapshots to a PC or Wii you see that the images have a neat resolution. They look "just good" on a big(ger) screen. Of course you shouldn't expect highend hi-res fullscreen awesomeness. And as a plus they're very comfortable in their size (no MB, just good old KBytes). Really, the only downside is, they're not hi-res so the DSi cam is no option for professional photographers who want to transfer their shots to wallpaper. A little example: When I take snapshots with my 8.2 megapixel camera, I always need to edit the shots, because they're too big (even for HDTV) and I don't need the damn high resolution at all. The DSi cam should be much more convenient for 90% of the time (as 90% of the time I'm just taking funny snapshots and only 10% of the time I'm trying to make some dreams come true in lensflaring lightbreaking waterdrop zoom wannabe art stuff, you know!) Anyway, the point is, on the larger DSiXL screen, the snapshots you take with the DSi camera indeed look better. They could make even bigger screens with no noticable quality loss.

| Yeah, the photos look fine on the XL. On another note, writing stuff in Brain Training and stuff is much easier with the screen and large pen stylus. |

| I'm guessing EBA and Ouendan would be harder on the XL though since you have to reach farther across the screen for all the sliders/buttons. Not a deal-breaker though since I would still keep my old DS and always be able to use my family's DS Lites. |

| Lemmy Koopa | I need a new DS, mine won't charge anymore. I'd concider looking into the XL, but it might be a little late in the DS's life to invest in another one. But then again, I still have to try so many of the DS titles, and Okami 2 is coming out soon.

| Do you like my helmet? | OK, I've been a notorious hater of this device since day 1. I still prefer my portables smaller rather than larger. The GB Micro is one of my faves. However, Best Buy here in Canada was doing an awesome promotion where you could trade in 5 games worth $9.99 for a free DSiXL. Naturally, deal hunter than I am, I jumped all over that. So I have essentially a free DSiXL, since I just traded in doubles and garbage. The screen, the whole device, is WAY bigger than you think it's going to be. It's a beast. I tested it with Pokemon SoulSilver. I DO notice some stretching and blurring on the massive screen, especially with text. I also noticed that the shoulder buttons are far more annoying to play with now. |

DS games go for £3-4 on ebay these days and not just the crappy ones. I'd be all over that deal if it were in Sweden or England and laughing all the way to the bank.

| Do you like my helmet? | Beta, they were only giving the deal to the first 20 customers. Games were limited to stuff they had on their trade-in list, worth $9.99 or more in trade value, but trust me, there was a lot of trash on that list. They also weren't accepting multiple copies of games, even across platforms. It was still a good enough deal that I essentially got the XL for about $50. |

| Wow, I wish the Best Buy here had a deal similar to that! But I did took advantage of Best Buy's buy one, get one half off on DS games. Got myself WarioWare: D.I.Y. and Pokémon SoulSilver. |

| Lemmy Koopa | My cousin got one for his birthday and man is it huge! I never thought it would be that big! I'd prefer one a little smaller. Although it's great for the camera.

| Do you like my helmet? | I think he means he generally prefers his DS to be smaller than the massive tank that is the XL. I know what he means. It's even bigger than I thought. It's hilarious. |

| Monty Mole | I was so surprised by the size of the DSi XL screens when I saw a Best Buy staff showing another customer it.

| Lemmy Koopa | I want a screen bigger than the DSi, but smaller than the XL! Well, if you're going to make a handheld solely for the big screens, you might as well make them as big as you can so nobody can say they want them bigger.

The DSiXL is really stupid. It's good for people with bad eyesight and Nintendo droolers. The DSi has a pretty good sized screen. A good this-gen portable from Nintendo would be about that size, lack cameras, have the GBA slot, and have online/shop/download functionality.

| Haven't seen a good original DSiWare game yet...I'd rather just have a portable Virtual Console. |

| I am not going to get one because I already have a DSi and I don't want a bigger DS. I find it weird that they're trying to make a portable console fit in at home as a non portable console. Personally I like the DSi the way it is. Bigger isnt always better. For one, Its harder to conceal if your at school or something. Second I wonder if it would have a longer charge time than the DSi, and Third the stylus is a freakin pen. Its huge.

And by the way I'd like to remember everybody that the DSLite, DSi and DSi XL are all still in production and none is intended to replace the other products. I think Nintendo has done a very good thing expanding the family, so to allow more choice.

| Do you like my helmet? | peteraugusts, the pen thing is a good point. So far I haven't taken it out of the box. I've only ever used the buttons and briefly the normal stylus (same size as the DSi stylus, as far as I can tell). The control pad and face button layout isn't too bad (I have big hands), but you can certainly notice that the shoulder buttons are "farther away". Quote:

I just push for people to use words like "I prefer" rather than "it's better". The overall impression would be that of a real discussion instead of clashing opinions. And even if it didn't happen here, I still have the feeling that trashing the DSiXL is right behind the corner.
