Haha, good luck with that... I like the idea of Flower, Sun and Rain a lot more than the actual game...it's not exactly "fun". But then again, that's kinda how a lot of Suda games are...

Just wanted to revive this thread tpo say that I also have no clue what it going on in this bizarre and extremely odd game but I'm really enjoying playing it.

It was about 6 days in before I figured out (well Yossarian told me) what the lost and founds were all about. Usually I can either take or leave Suda games and I found Contact incredibly dreary but I'm pleased that this has the same surreality of Killer 7 without the over the top swearing and other teenage fan service of No More Heroes.

Easily my favourite Suda game so far. It's so cheap that everyone should pick it up and give it a go. It has an unusual pace but is the perfect pre bedtime winddown game.

The licensed, mostly classical, music is also a neat touch.

Classical music is usually not licensed at all!

Today I met a small boy in the game who told me that the games music is actually "just ripping off famous songs". I had to chase him all over the hotel because my character was so outraged about his blatant fourth wall breaking!

Really love this game, how far along are you with it now? If you're finding things bizarre at the minute, be prepared to go with it when things go REALLY wayward

I've just woken up at night for the first time, my last mission was finding the lighter for Shoutaro and his Dad. It was creepy to see Warning: Spoiler Below.
the maid under the bed after all those days
.

It's funny because every review I've seen of this game slates it almost out of some sense of professional duty, even though you can tell that the reviewer kind of enjoyed it in a perverse sense. Meanwhile I havn't read a single user comment that hasn't indicated the person enjoyed it.

Looking forward to 'The Silver Case' coming later this year especially if I can grab it for £4.99 as I did with this (zavvi.co.uk offer this price with international delivery for £1 to those who are interested).

For those who have beaten the game, Destructoid has an interesting critique of what they think Suda was trying to do with this title here:

Contains Spoilers.

To discuss the bits that arn't spoilery what they have done is basically split their review up into two parts, a quick review of the actual game (3/10, "don't play it") followed by a much more elaborative critique of the game as a piece of art and a commentary on game design in general.

I think they are at least partly correct to do this and I'm glad that they didn't just do what many reviewers have done and basically said "we liked this but we can't explain why as the graphics and gameplay are terrible: 4/10).

I agree with them that there's no way Suda and Grasshopper consciously sat down and said, "you know what would be really fun? Making the player walk miles and miles down uninteresting, unecessarily long and empty paths and stalling them with endless fetch quests". Both Suda and Grasshopper are too talented and aware to not be doing this on purpose for some other motive. The fact that characters in the game repeatedly belittle you for your stupidity and break the fourth wall by insulting the games graphics and mechanics is surely part of the joke. The absurd pedometer a deliberate excercise in pushing the gamer to see how many times they will run around Suda's little wheel for the tiniest of rewards.

Now here's something interesting I found somewhere else: its possible to beat the whole game without registering a single step on the pedometer by tapping the Dpad to move and thus not completing a full step.

I wouldn't bet that isn't deliberate too and can you imagine the gamer who as we speak is inching his way along one of those seemingly endless paths to see what happens when he beats the game with a '0' on the pedometer: He's out there, doing it right now...I wonder what his reward will be.
