Mick, bear in mind that 999 is not a game, it's a book. (Basically.)

The Luminous Arc are competent Final Fantasy Tactics-style tactical RPGs.

Bear in mind also that Izuna 2 and Heracles are both routinely sold for like $9 new.

Does Shantae: Risky's Revenge use button controls or touch-screen controls?

I haven't played it, but according to this review, "There is almost no use for the touch screen other than to switch from menu to map or to check your inventory. Everything is handled with the buttons otherwise."

Hmm, that's good news. I don't really like the idea of having to use the touch screen for the map/menu switching. I guess there's no button alternative for those?

I'm just trying to decide if I want to buy this one my DSi or my XL, since the XL's screen is beautiful and never gets touched.

It mainly uses button controls. Although, some functions such as the inventory may only use the touch screen.

This is a great game though, I have to say!

I'm getting a 3DS tomorrow. I might get a game along with it. Should I get Ridge Racer (Pre-owned), Blaz Blue Continuum Shift II (a game which I have on consoles), or should I shell out a little more to get Pilot Wings Resort? Any other ones that I should look out for?

Get PilotWings Resort. It's a pretty unique flying simulator.

You probably have Ocarina of Time and Super Street Fighter IV on the other consoles, but I got these because I didn't really own a home console that has these two games.

Okay. I'll also ask if Best Buy's stores have the deal where you get half off on Pilot Wings if you get The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

I'm getting the price drop and the free games.

Anyways, I got Pilotwings. Haven't played it yet, but I'm looking forward to it. Thanks, Versus.

Well, Pilotwings turned out to be a great success, thanks, Versus22.

I have another question now: Which one of these would be the best use of my $4.99?

Tetris Party Live
GO Series: Picdun
Metal Torrent
A Kappa's Trail
AlphaBounce
Pro Jumper Guilty Gear Tangent

It would be better to get them for $169.99 since that will be the price drop price.

Costco has them at $169.99 in Canada already. Best Buy and Future Shop may price match that price.

Another option for people who want the free games and also a better price is to go back into the store with your receipt after the price drop and have them match the new price (refund the difference). Props to Ouen for this plan.

That's good to hear Costco having the $169.99 deal, but I don't have a store membership. I think Best Buy/Future Shop still beats competitive ads by 10% of the difference (unless they only do that basicly at the Christmas holiday season).

It's hard to say because they are original and/or unique in some way. I haven't really played that much of any of them (I don't have Tetris Party Live) except Pro Jumper.

It's actually a fun and cute platformer, but it only has six stages (by traveling to a variety of hot springs and other places). The content and challenge the developers added though are decent enough for the game to be worth $5. The boss in each stage you might have to have a bit of patience as thats where I had a bit of trouble (it may be just me though).

The game may be a bit short like a GB game, but in my opinion its worth my purchase.

Note: Nintendo Power's Phil T. also recommends this game (August 2011 issue), but I'm sharing my thoughts as well.

I narrowed it down myself some more and eventually settled on Tetris. So far, I'd say it's highly recommendable. It's a very good version of Tetris, though I wish it had more than 2 single player modes.

Yeah Tetris is pretty fun. Good choice!
I think Tetris DS was good enough for me, which was why I didn't get this. Tetris Party Live reviews had nothing to do with my decision.

Has anyone played Resident Evil: The Mercenaries yet? Aside from the permanent save horse crap is it a decent game in the series or not?

Populous DS

Populous DS is the 4th and most recent installment in the Populous series. It's a versus god game: you are tasked with creating an inhabitable region for your followers. You do this by using miracles -- flattening land, removing boulders, harassing your enemy's worshipers, protecting yourself from your enemy's attempts at harassment, and so on.

In this installment of the series, you can choose 1 of 5 elemental alignments for your god. These are:
  • EARTH (which is stronger than)
  • WIND (which is stronger than)
  • WATER (which is stronger than)
  • FIRE (which is stronger than)
  • HARVEST (which is stronger than Earth)
You start with access to Earth and quickly gain access to the others by completing Challenges. Harvest is the last god unlocked, IIRC. Each god has its own unique miracles and heroes. For example, the Earth god can cause earthquakes, create marshland, or summon a large meteor. The Earth Warrior turns defeated enemies into stone and destroys the houses.

There are up to 4 gods on a single battlefield at once. Each battlefield has its own flavor. The Magma map, for example, is full of deadly lava, and worshippers die instantly upon falling into it. Outer Space has no water, making boulders difficult to remove. Worshippers can't die of exhaustion on the Horror map. Growth is slower on some maps, mana higher on others, etc.

There are 4 modes of play:
  • CHALLENGE has a total of 50 unique challenges in it, discounting the 5 obnoxious, unskippable tutorials. Each challenge pits you against a specific god (or gods), on a specific map with set rules, including a time limit. Challenges 41 through 45 are unlocked upon obtaining medals in Warrior Hunt; Challenges 46 through 50 are unlocked upon completing Challenges 1 through 40.
  • MULTIPLAYER allows you to play with another gamer. I haven't tested this out and off the top of my head, I don't know if it's multicard play or single card download play.
  • FREEPLAY: VERSUS is what it sounds like.
  • FREEPLAY: WARRIOR HUNT is a Where's Waldo sort of thing, except sometimes Waldo is a yeti or on fire. It's surprisingly fun.
I picked this up used from Gamestop, CIB, for $5. That's $5 well spent, I'd say.
