Hm..according to some Black & White sources, there will be 12 new legendaries in the new games and 156 new 'monz total. Uggh...is this really necessary? Are so many new Pokemon needed in order to make each gen seem "fresh" enough? So many Pokemon means more work for the animators, artists, etc. and unless they are getting more and more people for each game, the quality can only suffer, right? And I thought part of the point of Pokemon was keeping them all recognizable and stuff? If there are going to be like 1000 of them, won't kids getting into this stuff just get overwhelmed? Catching 'em all seems to no longer possible for any semi-casual player. (although I guess this was always the case if you count event Pokemon).

Anyway, just another of my mini-rants on the new Pokemon games. I hate on them until I buy them and then I enjoy them. I still can't help but feel sometimes that they could be doing a better job than they have been.

They should make a straight remake of the first two games. Update the graphics and that's it. Don't add all the current/now/new pokerymanz, don't change the mechanics or the underlying gameplay, don't fluff out minigames, etc.

I'm not saying they should back to the way things were. I'm just saying they keep adding new Pokemon, but they put little effort into adding new story elements, or at least character customization if story isn't their thing. Why is it always about creating a bazillion Pokemon and going to a new region? A revisit ala Kanto in Gold and Silver would be nice.

You weren't huh? Well, didn't FireRed and LeafGreen come pretty close to that? I mean, yeah, they added on to the original 151 after you beat the Elite Four, but until then it's very much like the original games. I doubt GameFreak would want to release something so similar so soon.

Hmm, I guess. I thought FR/LG changed the gameplay mechanics a bit too. Maybe I'm wrong (I haven't played much of them).

Maybe what they should do is create a brand new non-remake game in the series, but only use the original 151 pokerymanz.

Yeah, they technically did change the gameplay to the 3rd generations system, but by the 3rd generation, gameplay remained largely unchanged from the 1st gen, with things like more room for items, new move types, and Special moves being separated into Special Attack and Special Defense being there largely for less annoying and more balanced gameplay. (although a more faithful remake would have removed abilities and weather effects, but that way FR and LG would have more difficulty connecting to R/S/E.)

And yeah, I'd love to see a new story using a limited amount of old Pokemon to tell it, rather than a bunch of new ones.

Boo. I thought I'd hit on a sneaky way to beat Red but hadn't counted on the Lapras' immunity to hail. There I was happily waging a suicidal war of attrition by constantly dying and reviving whilst letting the hail and recoil do all the work for me and then the Lapras comes along and spoils it all.

I'm 30 levels below Red's team and dread the prospect of grinding my team to level 80+. Mt Silver can only give me so much EXP. Would Quagsire be immune to Pikachu's electric attacks? That would buy me some time at least. At this level I can barely get the opportunity to land a hit on any of them.

Anyone still playing SS/HG?

I have a bunch of pokemon that need to be traded to evolve. Can anyone help?

Hm. I haven't played in quite some time due to DQIX. My pokémon are all around level 80, though.

What's the point of getting a DSi when the 3DS is just around the corner, anyway?

But then again, the 3DS is region-locked, have bad battery-time, a 3D effect that gives you a headache and is utterly expensive over here.

They'll continue the DSi line for a good while as long as they still make DS games, for those that probably can't afford a 3DS, the adults that just want to play Brain Training, and those that really don't care about the 3DS.

And being Pokemon editions make them collectibles...

I guess. I still use my DS phat. Haven't upgraded since. It's still going strong but the battery time has been roughly cut in half.
