I was wondering whether C64 games on the VC create their own save files automatically when leaving the game, just like all other consoles except for the Neo Geo do.

As far as I'm aware yes. They all have the auto-suspend feature. However other than for the purposes of maintaining high scores there isn't really any need for a save on any of the currently released versions.
The only way you might lose your save is if you have to reset as I did when Cybernoid somehow zapped me to the blue C64 startup screen |
